Maybe leave them outside in the truck of your car until you have a bright, sunny day, and then maybe leave them in the direct sunlight all day?

I would be more concerned about underwear and sheets. Those would go directly into the washer and then dried outside in the sunlight.

As far as my projects: the night stand and coffee table are finished. I had to do some re-working of the night stand (and use dowels and glue) but it's fine. The coffee table was very easy and looks good! I paid around $25 for each, so no huge hit to my budget. They were close-out pieces from one of the home stores that's no longer in business.

The TV stand is going to be cut up and put into the trash. It's broken in several places and not worth trying to fix. I think it was $20, so not a huge loss. I'm looking online to see what Walmart has in stock. I might also stop by Big Lots. My present TV stand is a wobbly table. It needs to go, even if I only replace it with a sturdy table and then put 2 - 3 baskets from the garage underneath, which is my Plan B. Then, with a deep cleaning, the living room will look 100% better. I bought a decent sofa and recliner when I moved in. I just never got around to upgrading the other pieces, which is okay. I bought two floor lamps last Christmas, which eliminated the need for end tables.

My bedroom is getting new curtains (already purchased). That and the new night stand, plus a deep cleaning, will make it look 100% better. So that gives me two decent rooms without breaking the budget. I'm happy!

The kitchen is next on the list, but getting the smaller table in place is already helping a bunch.

Yeah, the shoes, even the package, will be left on the front porch unopened for a few days as long as the weather holds. Once, I take them out of the package, I'm going to spray them down with Lysol, before bringing them inside.

We bought the mattress on our bed from Sam's when they had a sale on them. That was about 15 years ago! Now, it sorta sags on the side Cary sleeps on. That causes me to roll into him, and I just can't sleep that way. I mostly sleep on the sofa, because of my bad back. Now, the sofa is about that old, too. The seat cushions are looking rather worn. We used most of our savings account to buy the new SUV (paid cash) and to have the tree cut in our yard. Not much left, so I'm going to have to save up for them. It's not easy to replace the money in our savings or save anything in my emergency fund when everything is so expensive now days. We can see our wealth dwindling day by day. Not that we had much to start with.

I have seen people also use an old dresser for a tv stand. The extra storage is a bonus. Often these can be found pretty cheaply on fb groups.
I just went back and looked at my prior orders. I bought this back in 2017, and it is still going strong. It was a prime item when I got it under $40. I think they have other colors that still could be. (The cherry one looks like it’s $37 delivered.)

Meemur Congrats on putting table together! Sometimes that can be a real challenge! Southern Breeze I know you feel better after sweeping your floors. Gritty floors can keep me up at night! I always love hearing what everyone is up to. Today we binge watched a little bit of The Chosen. Watching the occupation by the Romans sort of takes my breath away. High taxes, limited food, and personal and religious freedoms taken away gave me pause. We are planning gardens and double checking seed focusing this year on foods that will store without much processing. We already started our white potatoes chitting and have culled out sweet potatoes for making slips with.
I think there should be a rule that no house gets dirty while decorated for Christmas but no takers on that! I am culling lots of Christmas decorations this year hoping to have less to store during the rest of the year.
Good job everyone! Good job on the cleaning!

Kaegreel is the name of the company in Wuhan, China that my shoes are coming from. I think I would avoid anything from that company. I certainly will from now on. Cary got another e-mail from them this morning saying they have been shipped. I hope that doesn't mean they're just now being shipped from China! If so, I might get them in about 3-6 months!

Yeah, philkar, it's a no go for sandy, gritty floors! With ceramic tile and hard wood floors throughout the house, I have a lot of grit and sand. That's why my floors get swept every day, sometimes twice in the heavily trafficked areas. Plus, all the wood chips that get on the floor from loading the wood rack inside and the wood heater.

The only decluttering left for me to do are the three long wall shelves in the laundry room. The shelves need cleaning, and I'll be getting rid of some of the keepsake items that are collected on them. It's time for some of that stuff to go. Over the years, they don't hold the same value for me as they did when I first got them.

Tomorrow is my appointment with my MD specialist. The RX drug she's had me on hasn't worked, so, I know already that she will give me my first eye injection. I'm scared and very anxious about it. I don't know what to expect. Some people I've spoken with about it says it really hurts, and some say it doesn't, but a feeling of uncomfortable pressure. My appointment is first thing in the morning at 9:15 am.

I will be praying for you, too, SB! That sounds scary.

Something I learned living in Iowa: commercial floor mats at the doors (inside and outside), plus changing into "house shoes" is a major help. Mats are even coming in more colors, like spring green. Yes, the commercial ones are pricey, but if you care for them, they'll last 10+ years with home use.

1703697292258.jpeg

I bribed myself to start the deep cleaning first thing and promised myself pho for lunch (from the restaurant -- I'm NOT making it!). It was supposed to snow all day today, but it has just been flurries. The roads are clear.

I brought one of the tables up from the basement as the new TV stand. I'll also check the thrift store while I'm out, but I think the table will be fine for now. The living room looks 100% better. I wish I had been able to finish this project sooner. It wasn't expensive. I just didn't have the energy to clean, assemble, and move stuff.

I have those mats on the outside porches at both doors, plus indoor space rugs just inside each door. I do make Cary take off his outside shoes when he comes in, but he doesn't listen every time. Men! Then, there is our dog!

On the eye injection, I don't have a clue. I'm afraid that she will strap my head down in some kind of device, then pry my eye wide open with another device! That terrifies me. I have to be almost knocked completely out with Valium, plus the nitrous gas, just to have a filling done at my dentist office. I'll be going into this without any kind of medication at all.

Thanks for your prayers.

I hope that it's not as bad as all that!

When I had my cataract surgery, they covered and positioned me so that I couldn't really see what they were doing. I was doing my part to follow instructions, remain calm (kept my mind on the Lord), and then it was over really quickly!

I hope the same for you. I'm sure they have procedures in place so that patients don't panic.

I sure hope so, Meemur! I'm still debating on whether or not to take a valium that I have here at home, before going. She wouldn't write me a script, but I keep a stock of them here at home from my PCP's scripts for heavy duty panic/anxiety attacks.

Upon doing some research about Kaegreel and my shoes, I found out that it's an Italian company that has shoe factories all over the world, including China. I guess mine are coming from the Chinese factory. There are factories here in the US and Portugal, too. So, I'm now not as leery about ordering shoes from them. I wear a small size and am wondering if that is the reason mine are coming from a small shoe factory in China where women's shoe sizes are commonly smaller than average.

I got one of those Roomba like automatic vacuums for Christmas. I think it was a conspiracy to make me deep clean, lol. Using it in the small apartment. Gotta get everything off the floor which I need to do anyway. Hope this thing likes spiders and lady bugs. Don't have a name for it yet. Friend named hers R2Clean2.

Time to rotate mattress. Even though we use a topper I spin the mattress around 1 turn every couple months. Not easy on a king bed but doable. Helps avoid ruts and sags.

Spending my afternoon filing all the receipts I have ignored for 2 months. Tomorrow I will do the deep cleaning around the walls so vacuum can run. Getting DH to put his shoes on rack by front door will be biggest hurdle.

I ran the water and vinegar through the pot and made a pot of coffee, not good, but the next pot of coffee was great.

I was digging around in the she shed yesterday looking for a canaster vacuum cleaner. I found one but not the one I was looking for. This one works but all the attachments are not there. I need something with strong suction for baseboards and corners, but the long attachments would help a lot. The last time I saw the one I was looking for was some years back in the camper. No telling where it is. Sigh.

I went to the little town nearest us to pick up lunch plates from the little diner there. I decided to stop in the community center to say hi. I had to park across the street from it. I was not the least bit anxious that I would fall walking across the street and stepping up to the side walk. This is a big change for me in very recent times, I was always anxious that I could fall. Yay me.

Thank God I don't have a need for a vacuum cleaner any longer. When we had to pull up the carpet in our living area, it was so nasty and full of sand that I said, "Never again". That's when we went with the ceramic tile. I vacuumed at least twice a week and couldn't believe how much dirt was left in the carpet. It was a top of the line heavy duty vacuum, too. I still have the vacuum cleaner, and it's stored in the pantry closet. I use it to deep clean the sofa and recliner. For regular everyday use, I use my hand held vacuum cleaner.

Thanks, Philkar. Good luck getting rid of some Christmas decorations. That's a good point: the less you have, the less you have to put away!

I understand! I'm down to an 8' x 10' rug, and two 5' x 7' rugs. The smaller ones get taken out in the spring and left on the driveway in the sun for several hours. When I have help, the larger one goes out, too. They have rubber backs. If they get too nasty, they'll be cut up and put in the trash, but they are doing okay. The cat leaves them alone, and I haven't been doing much dog sitting in my house since I moved. I still walk dogs, but they are generally kept at their home.

I need a little carpeting on the floor, especially in the winter, but I'm finished with wall-to-wall for the reasons you stated. I just don't have the sort of lifestyle it would survive, particularly the thin stuff available in 2023 that needs a pad. Most of the pads these days start rotting in five years. Ugh!

I don't have any rugs in my house that are too much for me to take outside and shake or beat. When I take them out to do that, I leave them out most of the day to air out. I hang them over the back deck railing. When mine get pretty worn, Cary takes them to his workshop to use out there. I just buy new ones. Not all at once, though, since I have several spaced around in the house.

Our house seems to be damp. I need a dehumidifier but haven't got one yet. The carpet in our bedroom sweat and was rotting when we took it up. There was a spot in the living room area that developed a large brown spot where it was rotting, too, from sweating. So much dampness. In that situation, I didn't feel it was safe health wise to let it stay. We pulled it all and have never looked back. Our health is too important. Nasty, moldy carpet will make you sick, not to mention those with allergies. No carpet now, and we have had no problem with our floors sweating.

We have an old house built in the late 1800s....we have heart of pine floors everywhere except the bathrooms ...even in the kitchen...
Here the floors get cold in the winters....so we have wool oriental rugs in every room... except the baths....even have wool throw rugs in the kitchen....I run around the house bare foot...year round but those rugs wonderful...and they last for ever..some of mine are over 35 years old....

Well, the wellness center that I was supposed to be helping open is closed. The main owners had a falling out and poof! It's OK. Even if I don't get the product i had there back, it's not a great loss. Today, I was meandering around town and found another place that has a kitchen to rent that might work for canning classes. I talked to the owner, I just need to sit down and figure out what i want to do. It seems like every time I plan this though, something comes up that is impossible to work around (COVID, getting cancer, etc). I will try. If it's meant to be, God will let it be.

Took a bunch of Ebay stuff to the post office. I don't know how long this all will last, but in the last month, I've made close to $1000 doing this. It's not a bad side gig. Bought a few things at the grocery store - all their Christmas stuff was half off, but it was mostly candy.

As for preps: this week I'm on batteries - the small ones. I store more than 300 batteries so I need a good system.

I bought some of these from eBay for AA and AAA:
1703721807073.png

I put a piece of tape on each of the 2 compartments that have the expiration date for the group that is in it, so it is easy to see what the oldest are at a glance. Although only 1 row is shown in the picture, each box holds 2 rows.

I also have a set that I put charged rechargeable batteries in. I also have another set for lithium batteries.

This week:
The shoes I like are back in stock (for my size) on Amazon, finally. Will be buying several more pairs.

It has been insanity and chaos for 3 days. Yes I count Christmas day because it was not part of our normal routines. I'm beyond done with this. I'm putting the brakes on and getting things back in order tomorrow.

I did order a dehumidifier today. A small one for the hall near the bathroom. It always is too humid there regardless of anything I do.

Son was in meltdown mode by dinner time because I kept having to go back to the computer to deal with yet something else. By the time I finished for the day, I was done. So I'm reading a book and letting my brain take a break from reality for a while.

I hadn't walked for 6 days and my body knew it. So this morning I went out and walked first thing. I didn't care if it was cold. At first I thought I was going to only do part of it, but I ended up doing all of it. And it got rid of the headache I woke up with.

I think I'm crashing early tonight.

Oh, and son got his chocolate covered pretzels. That was hilarious in its own way. He was determined to be mad at me. He ate one and glared at me, so I thought it was a fail. Then he reached out, took the bag, and walked away with it, all while still glaring at me. But I heard the yum, yum as he ate them. And saw the chocolate on his hands when he came back out.

We worked outside today...my most favorite place to be... even though it was in the 40's. It did hit 56 I think but it is so damp here right now with a bit of a breeze. But we got lots done! That's the most important thing! trimmed roses which is a medium big job. We found some gorilla gloves a few months ago that are elbow length and they worked beautifully. pulled wild blackberries out of the blueberries and transplanted 5 blueberries to a new spot. Planted two green giant arborvitae that is not spelled right! to hide gas tanks. Then we mulched muscadines and blueberries. I planned to pick brussell sprouts but decided they should wait a few more days. Just a fun day all around. Planting time will be here soon! My BIL who is 78 wants to plant King of the Garden pole beans at the river this year. I have a love hate relationship with those beans but agreed to help as he might not get to do it again. Popcorn is also on the agenda for the grandchildren per his request. I think I have 4 more camellias and a few rhododendrons to plant and I will be caught up on planting stuff. Well stuff in the yard. It is time to fill up that greenhouse!

After 20 days, we now have running water again! Yea!

Plumber was an hour late showing up, but got the new line run quickly. Thanks to the stupid city codes, he was unable to run the new line to the side of the house where the old line came in. Now feeding the pipes in the house from the opposite end of the run. Code requires that the line enter from the same side of the house as the meter is on, in my case the front. I don't like the way the new cutoff sticks out in my basement bedroom, but I'll live with it. He ran new 3/4" copper from the meter to the house using a boring machine, so he didn't have to tear up my patio in front of the house.

Something severely upset my digestive system today, so been spending a lot of time in the bathroom. At least it didn't start until after the water was on. Skipped supper because of this. I did get two loads of laundry done and will need to do one more tomorrow.

It's amazing how much better the water pressure and flow is with a new water line that isn't partially clogged with minerals.

I'm feeling everyone's prayers, so please keep them going, today. I slept good last night, without waking up at all during the night. I'm not as anxious as I thought I would be this morning. I've decided just to take one of my other anti-anxiety meds, instead of the valium. I need to be fully awake, and the valium pretty much knocks me out. If I'm that "out of it", she might not be able to do what she needs to do.

Each time I go to see her, it's a 4 hour visit with all the testing that has to be done. No doubt, it will be the same, today. My appointment is at 9:30 am, plus 4 hours, I might get out of her office around 1:30-2:00 pm.

I'll try to let you all know how it went, once I get back home. Thanks so much for all of your prayers!

Will keep you in prayers, SB.

Boss and I are going to have to have words about the earliest she is to contact me. But I got my walk in because I needed it badly. Headache is now backed down and brain is back to a better functioning level.

Today is a day to get things back into an organized rhythm. I don't do chaos. I get really nasty tempered when forced to deal with uncontrolled chaos for long periods. (Yes there is such a thing as controlled chaos.)

Glad you got to work outside, Philkar!

Good going on your walk, Kyrsyan. Hope the headaches hold off.

Feral Ferret, feel better soon! Fantastic news about the plumbing.

I'm working in both my bedroom and kitchen today: re-organizing. I've got some seasonal kitchen stuff
stored in my bedroom closet. It's going to the basement or getting donated. I knew at the time that it wasn't a good idea, but I didn't have all of the shelves I needed for that basement at that point.

And how did I end up with all of these slow cookers? I inherited two large ones. I really need to either say no
or move things out a lot sooner.

Added: Mushroom growing sounds cool, Briches. Let us know how it goes.

Dh completely took the day off yesterday from working on something here. Except for calls from the folks at Church area headquarters that handle the repairs and problems. He oversees 6 of the buildings here in our stake. Oldest daughter came up at 1 to deliver the Christmas card and North Forty card that was in it as she forgot to mail it before Christmas. Normal for her lol. She was coming Tuesday but ended up with a flat tire. Her hubby quickly pumped it up and sent her to get it fixed, he went to bed as he works nights.

Anyway it's gets to about an hour before bed and dh starts complaining that he should have done something today, he could have painted our small bathroom, (only one we have) he could have done this, or that. I told him he needs a day off sometimes and it didn't hurt a thing for him to have it. :)

He had worked on family history while I took the evening off and watched Life With Father on youtube :) It was nice.

We had leftovers for our meals.

Hope everyone will have a great start to their new year.

I made it, and already back home. Earlier than expected, too.

Let me tell ya'll. Never underestimate the power of prayer! Cary and I are praising God right now. I'm about ready to have a happy fit! The MD was so much improved, today, that no injection was needed. She wants me to continue with the RX she's had me on for another month, and she believes that more improvement is very possible!!!! I have to go back for a recheck on Jan 30th.

Many, many thanks to all who were praying for me! Ya'll are the best! :hugs:

So glad that it worked out for you, SB. Prayers will continue. I hope that 2024 gives you real improvement for your eyes.

When I got ready to take my anti-anxiety med, before we left for my appointment, I had a sense of calm come over me. The fear and anxiety were gone. I didn't take the med. Now, I know why. Everything was going to be ok. Only God could have known that!

Thank you for your prayers!

We have carpet in the two bedrooms, crappy carpet, but DH refused to take it out when he bought the mobile home. I hate carpet, lived too many years with crappy carpet all over the house and we had in door dogs and cats, yuck. That's not really why I was looking for the canister vacuum though. I have a bissel that does a good job for that. so anyway the canister vacuum is sitting in the door way of my office (small bedroom), I need extending attachments for it because staying bent over is back pain hell. Maybe the one I was looking for will turn up somewhere in the camper or the she shed or the south shed or not.

The sun was out when I first got up, but in the low 50's, now its overcast and still in the low 50's, after all it is now officially winter and the days are getting longer, a minute here and there.

My last load of clothes is in the dryer. Only changing DH's sheets before New Years is left.

As for the New Year holiday, we won't be going anywhere. Except church on Sunday morning. The church is having something in the early evening until about 9:00 pm when they go outside for fireworks. I doubt we go to that. New Years eve has never been a big deal for me. The last time I paid attention to New Years eve was '99, had to watch the 2000 come in and see if the world was going to hell, another big hype for a nothing burger.

SB glad it turned out well for you, God is good all the time.
