Awake, alive, and kicking. Got my walk in. Started dishes and laundry. Going to have to wash a couple of loads of dishes today. Odd shaped items take more room in the dryer than regular.

Started a batch of cookies for son. I need to get regular hot chocolate and white hot chocolate mix made today so I can get them mailed out. And taco mix for son and I. Oh, and get the wheelchair measured for the tray. The lap table is made. Dad did a good job.

Now that I know, stupid me, that all glass jars are food safe, I have plenty of options to choose from while looking.

I finished off all the spices this morning. Actually, the canning jars look rather nice sitting on the kitchen shelf. I need to buy labels for the jars.

We had 3-4 severe thunderstorm warnings issued for our county last night, but none of them came directly over us. 2 of them got rather close, but no damage of any kind. Lots of rain.

Not much going on, today. I got all my laundry done and put away, yesterday. Chores are all done.

Tomorrow, I have a dental appointment for a check-up and cleaning.

Wednesday, Cary goes back to see his PCP to find out what all the different tests showed on his leg, and what needs to be done about it, and to have more blood work done to see what his creatinine level is. Cary will be asking him about the possible kidney disease, also.

Thursday, I go back to see my MDeg specialist. I sure hope she has a solution to fix my eye. The dimness is still there. She has mentioned specific RX eye drops and injections in the past. I absolutely cringe every time I think of having injections directly into my eyeball!

Friday, shopping day, again.

As ya'll can see, we have a rather full week ahead of us.

We are supposed to have storms in today as a cold front moves through. I got a short walk in both yesterday and today which has felt great to start moving again. I need to continue this effort!

I am about done with Christmas shopping and need to get it all wrapped this week. It will feel good to have that done.

Another task this week is to find and book flights for my youngest ds and I to visit oldest son who has moved across country. I’m not thrilled with flying but my momma heart wants to go see him.

Colonoscopy scheduled for this Wednesday, and I will be glad to have that behind me (pun intended).

One more school week, and then a two week break of which I am thankful for!

Prep wise I am feeling the urge to keep on going. That nudge had stopped for a bit, but is back full force. I am mentally going over lists, needs, holes, etc and trying to fill them as best I can.

Slow and steady …..

Not sure what's wrong with me today. I'm getting really annoyed over little things. I need to go to town for supplies for a cough syrup (making it with either kiwi or papaya juice since the client is allergic to pineapple) and I dread it. Hopefully no one will look at me cross=eyed or I might lose it. Again - not sure what's wrong with me.

DH is a little pissy today, too, but he is out cutting wood with a friend. I've started listing more on Ebay (I have got to get rid of some of this stuff!!) and working on chocolate covered moonshine cherries for dsis. I got the packages for the kids mailed off yesterday; I intend to get the ones for sis and mom mailed tomorrow - and take some goodies into work for the boss(es). Maybe I just need more coffee.

Vac-sealed meals for Mom and Dad for the coming week and stuffed their freezer. Made chicken salad and deviled eggs for the fridge.

Hubby caught fish yesterday so I better go fix some cole slaw to go with.

All I am really doing is watching about 30 wild turkeys feast in the rain. The Dish keeps losing signal due to weather and I am too lazy to search for anything on the DVR, so I decided to just chat with y'all!

We've been enjoying watching a small herd of deer meandering around across the fence in our backyard every morning. They are fun to watch. Cary got out his binoculars to see them more closely to see if there are any identification markings.

I haven't gotten around to making more chicken or ham salad for my lunch for next week. I can't make up deviled eggs to leave in the fridge. Cary would have them all eaten, before I get any.

Today was the first day in a long time that I didn't have to hit the ground running. I put in a load of laundry, made coffee and a homemade ham breakfast sandwich, and wrote a new list of tasks that I'd like to complete this week while it's dry and the temps are still in the 40s (Iowa has been experiencing above-average temps for the past two weeks!)

I'm slowly getting my energy back after being very sick over Thanksgiving with the flu (or whatever it was), but it's dark by 4:45 pm, and I have to work until 5:00 several days this week. I'm going to try to come home for lunch so that I can finish the yard work and have a jump on next spring. I've been cleaning and adding new soil and manure to the raised beds and containers along the driveway. The problem: I can only manage one per day. Yes, slow and steady!

I've tried to hire some help to work alongside me, but they've been no-shows. I hate that.

Wishing everyone a great week!

After this coming week, I hope things settle down a bit for us. I'd like to get back to more decluttering and cleaning. I've done a lot of that already, but still have more to do. I'm getting rid of a lot of old stuff that's just taking up space that has no reasonable value. Mostly, just old trinkets (gifts from the past) that take up space. I've also cleaned out my drawers and closets getting rid of a lot of old clothes. If I haven't worn it in 2 years, it's going out. That tells me, I can no longer fit into them, or I don't like them for one reason or another. I gave them to the thrift store that Mom helps with.

Whew - with the time change and shorter days, I'm going to bed earlier and staying there longer - and usually adding in a nap as well. Making up for all the lost sleep those years that I worked crazy shifts as a nurse, I guess  I bought some heated throws on clearance either last year or the year before - they remind me of the 'electric blankets' we had when I was a kid, only not full bed size. Since I'm not all that tall, they work fine for my bed. We've not had any weather that was really cold as yet - mid teens were the coldest - so I'll wait to drag out the heavy feather blankets until we really need them.

Daughter and the boys are taking a trip over Christmas break, so I will have the Grand-dog for a week or so - no sense cleaning out the van until they are back - I cleaned the middle seats, then folded them down into the floor; then put an old blanket on the floor, and an old king size sheet over the back seat so maybe it won't be as bad as I think. He's such a sweet dog that I can put up with the floof for a bit.

I picked up 40# of boneless chicken thighs last week - was busy so just tossed the whole bag in the freezer. I'm contemplating pulling them out when the kids take their trip and canning most of them - will vac seal some in freezer bags for making chicken fried rice though.

I'm trying to convince myself to start organizing the store room - but might make it a New Year's resolution instead; that'll give me more time

Take care all; wishing you all a great week!

Upon briches' request in "Quilt Squares", this is my chicken noodle casserole recipe.

Chicken Noodle Casserole

1, 12.5oz can of chicken
1 can mixed veggies, drained
2 cups cooked egg noodles, I use a little bit more to stretch the casserole further.
1 small onion, chopped
1 small bell pepper, chopped
butter
1/2 cup water or chicken broth, I use the water from cooking the egg noodles
2 chicken bouillon cubes
spices to taste, salt, garlic, and pepper
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 can Cream of Chicken

Drain water from chicken. Pinch up chicken in large bowl. Add bouillon cubes to enough water to cook egg noodles. Cook and drain noodles, saving 1/2 can liquid. Add to chicken in bowl. Melt butter in skillet, and brown onions and peppers til tender. Add to bowl. Stir in mixed vegetables, Cream of Chicken, cheddar cheese, 1/2 can of liquid, and spices. Mix well. Pour into a buttered casserole dish. Bake at 350 til bubbly. Take out of oven, and sprinkle top with added cheese or buttered cracker crumbs if so desired.

Its cold today in the 50's after being 82 yesterday, but the sun has been shinning. I could not go to sleep last night, it was after 4 when I finally did. But made it to church, came home fixed cheese burgers for lunch and slept for over three hours. I asked DH if it was tomorrow yet, no.

Nothing on tap this week except for continuing the same. I dug out my brita filter pitcher from the cabin and ordered some filters for it, not the brita brand but something that works. Our sink water is brown and we don't use it to make coffee, might try water from the brita filter, it tasted good in the past, but the brita filters don't last very long and are very expensive. I still need to clean the old filters and prime the new ones for my birkey, never liked the taste of the water from the birkey.

We only got a small amount of rain yesterday, the all day thing did not happen.

Still raining here. We have had nearly 2 inches so far today, and another 1 or 2 overnight is the forecast. Weather guru says the warm rain is keeping the severe weather at bay, but we are under a tornado watch until 8. It is is the upper 60's right now. Reminds me of the time I went to Lowes to get a Christmas tree and it would not fit in the Mustang. I just dropped the top and shoved it in. A lady on the corner said only in North Carolina!

I am with the rest of you on clearing out the unnecessary. At my age (71) and I am not using it regularly, it needs to go to someone that can. No need to leave that stuff for my kids to deal with. The donation box is getting filled.

Had planned on doing two loads of laundry last Thursday when my water line sprung a week. Looks like at least Wednesday before service is restored if they have to replace the whole line. Thank goodness for having three 55 gallon barrels of water for flushing, doing dishes, etc in addition to plenty drinking water in smaller containers. In three days, I've gone through most of a barrel, mostly for flushing. Yes, "if it's yellow, let it mellow" is in effect. Unfortunately I got a bellyache Friday.

Plumber came out and looked/took pictures just before 5 PM Friday. Someone is supposed to come out Monday to locate the line. Way too slow for my liking, but I am stuck due to having a warranty/insurance on the water line. $6.50 per month for the last several years, but beats having to come up with a large lump sum. Only problem is the warranty company picks and hires the contractor. I have no way to hurry the process since I am technically not the customer.

My wife has been nagging me for two months to drain two of the three barrels in preparation for our upcoming move. I'm glad I followed my gut instead of listening to her.

SB your chicken casserole sounds delish, I may try that on DH, I have all of the ingredients.

I have a package of Thai kitchen fried rice that I really want to try. I've been having a taste for fried rice lately. I guess I'll add a can of chicken to it. There was a place in New Orleans that had a great combination fried rice, been a long time.

Filled/rotated that third can of gas for storage. Gas has gone back down to $2.84 a gallon. Don't understand that blip up to $3.19 a couple of weeks ago.

No prepping for a bit. Leaving on Friday for a vacation that will take me out of the country until right after New Year's. When I get back, it will be a lot of decluttering and reorganizing of things, and trying a lot of new recipes, as I will consider myself 75% retired and time to get some things done as I work on some hobbies and spend more time with my family.

I ate that package of fried rice, in the future if I want fried rice I'll get it at a chinese restaurant, it wasn't very good.

The sun is shinning this morning, brisk, but supposed to get up to 60 later today.

I need to make lists of things I want to get done, it would be nice anyway.

I decluttered some large heavier water glasses that neither one of us like to use anymore.
Put larger dinner plates on lower shelf.Did some housework. Making green chile sour cream chicken enchiladas for supper. Will make enough for 2 nights. Weather is warmer after a cold weekend.

I've only gotten a few things done today, although the day is not over. I've got a miserable headache that just won't go away.

Cooking hamburger steaks for dinner, with brown gravy, mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. Not exactly on my diet but could be worse. Those frozen angus beef patties I've been getting at wm have come in handy.

been sunshiney all day and cool.

all the decluttering all ya'll have been doing is making me want to do the same. Not taking anything to a thrift store or selling but giving to other people. I'm 76 years old and in good health, but there are just some things I know I will never use again.

Made it back from a good dentist visit. He said all of my remaining teeth are sound and solid, but he did find a tiny speck of a cavity. I'll go back in January for a filling. He went ahead and wrote my RX for Valium, LOL! He knows me so well. I've used him for at least 20 years on a regular basis.

While in town, I stopped in at a new dry cleaners. The one we've been using all these years has closed and will not be opening back up. The owners decided to turn it into a bar and restaurant instead. I left a load of laundry to be pressed. I hate ironing, so I'm glad to have found another service. I hope they do a good job, since I'll be using them on a regular basis from now on.

Cary had to have a double quarter pounder with cheese, fries, and a coke for an early supper, so we ate, then came home.

I have a stack of stuff that needs ironing, I'm not sure I could let myself pay to have it done though, I'm too stingy but the thought of it is tempting. I did put the ironing board up the other day in the walkin closet, there is room for it and I located my good iron and I bought a couple of cans of spray starch, cotton needs starch.

Good for you for having a good dental check up.

Still dealing with no water thanks to water line leak. Water line warranty company changed contractors with no warning yesterday. Visit by the first contractor was a complete waste. It will be Wednesday when the new contractor makes it out to inspect. My expectation of having water service by Wednesday was grossly over optimistic. At this time it looks likely that a week from today might be a possibility. That would make 11 days with no water service.

Thankfully I seem to be getting four and a half days per barrel. That would give me essentially 14 days total. I hope that I can stretch it a little more if needed. It all depends on whether any of us get another bellyache and have to do extra flushes. Still have 22 gallons of drinking water in gallon jugs and six gallons in half liter bottles for two people, so good shape there.

Daughter severely cut her right hand with a box knife over the weekend and was transferred to a hospital in Kansas City. She may end up losing the tips of three fingers on her right hand. Hopefully not. Prayers are appreciated. Thankfully she is left handed. Will be having to drive her back to where she lives downstate when she is released. My wife may stay with her a week or so to help out while I deal with the water line mess. That would help stretch the water for flushing, dishes, etc.

I've always hated to iron. Mom always paid someone to do our family ironing, so it just came natural for me to do it, too. Plus, Cary fusses at the way I iron his clothes. It pays me to have someone else do it. He can fuss at them, then. It's mostly his clothes that go in to get pressed.

Iron? What is this thing of which you speak? That's why permanent press was invented.

All kidding aside, since I never wear dress clothes anymore, I have nothing needing to be ironed. I do still own an iron. About the only time it gets used is to put an iron on patch on clothing.

The last seven years I worked I had uniform service provided by my employer. We attend church every Sabbath via teleconference (no video) so no dress clothes needed for church.

We both wear casual dressy clothes a lot. Going to different doctor's offices all month long every month leaves me with a lot of those type clothes to iron. We have work around the house clothes, and we have going out clothes.

Mom used to pay me. I don't like doing it but I can do it well. I personally chose to wear clothes that don't need ironing. And now that my parents are retired, so do they.

What a day. Except for short breaks here and there I've been working all day. Long day. And boss just tossed a new big one at me. So I have to finish two other big things by the end of next week, one of which is 1099 hunts for 50 companies. I want to go hide now. At least I know that most of our existing customers from 2022 have that information already in their files. Oh what a rabbit hole that can be.

I finally got a chance to look for the CT scan results.

No visible cancer. No visible aneurysm. No visible plaque.

I'm shaking and flying and crashing all at the same time. I don't even know how to explain that level of relief. I'm so incredibly grateful.
