We just got home. Great News!!! We're still praising God for His mercies towards us.

Cary does NOT have any kind of kidney disease!!! His creatinine levels were normal, today, and were normal on his last PCP's blood work a month ago. Doctor told Cary he didn't have anything to worry about on that. The tumor in his right leg is a fatty tumor. Doctor told him that it didn't have to be removed, unless it starts giving him pain to the point of him wanting it removed. Most of the pain in his right leg is from a bit of arthritis in his hip. Nothing severe on that. Cary's next checkup is in March.

All in all, we're so happy and thankful. We both appreciate all of your prayers, too. Prayer does work, and God is always good.

Got a lot done on my day off today! Ran errands (the usual - bank, post office, grocery store, dropped off donations), cut wood and filled about half a tote, made goulash, packaged up and mailed Christmas packages, and listed a bunch of stuff on Ebay. Oh and filled an order for herbs. Just waiting to wake up DH as he has plow duty tonight at midnight.

I'm putting grilled cheese sandwiches and homemade chicken noodle soup on our menu for one night next week. Our weather is cold enough now, and it will be good. I love cheese, so I'll put a slice of Swiss and sharp cheddar on mine with a slice of ham. Cary only wants one slice of sharp cheddar with a ham slice on his. The sandwiches pair well with the noodle soup.

I had a sink of dishes, mostly cups and glasses, to wash this morning first thing. I can't stand dirty dishes that pile up. We messed them all up during the day, yesterday, before leaving for the doctor appointment, and I didn't feel up to washing them last night when we got home. I don't do that often, but I was just too tired. We ate out, yesterday, for supper.

This afternoon is my visit to my Mac Degen specialist. We're praying that I get good news from her, too. Hopefully, what is going on with my vision is something that's treatable even if it includes the eye injections. With my vision the way it is now, I'm scared to drive, and I can't see a thing trying to drive at night.

Tomorrow is my mid/month shopping day. I only have a handful of items to get, mostly for our Christmas dinner, and a stop in at the Wine Shop. Need more egg nog, LOL!

Cary is still pulling out boxes of salt. He had a stash put away that I didn't know about. Another 10 boxes. He wants to get those converted to storage bags as soon as we find the time to do it. I may have to buy another tote. I think he was thinking about using it to cure meat with, but I don't think it's the right kind of salt for that. So, that leaves us with a huge amount of salt.

AFAIK, you can use any salt to cure meat. They advise against using anything except "pure" salt (no iodine or anti-caking ingredients) for canning or pickling, but even that is due to cosmetic concerns, not safety. Use it if you need to!

Thanks for that info, Summerthyme. I feel much better in having it all now. There may come a time when we have to use the salt to cure our meat. That's why Cary stocked so much of it. I thought you had to use a special kind of curing salt to do that.

Now, salt doesn't contain nitrates, which may be what you are thinking of. But it's the salt part of the "cures" they sell which is the preservative... the nitrates help keep the nice, red color. Don't think meat cured without them is spoiled because it's grayish... as long as it smells good, it's fine.

That tumor is probably called a lipoma, I had one on my back many years ago. I had it removed because my back itched under it. And to this day the incesion still itches.

So glad to hear the good news, God bless.

Yeah. A lipoma is what his doctor called it. It doesn't give Cary any problems as long as he doesn't put pressure on it while sitting down. It's in the back of his right thigh. He has to sorta sit funny to keep the pressure off. In March, when he goes back for his next check-up, he's going to talk to his doctor about having it removed, then.

My local Aldi has butter on sale for $2.49, limit 6, again.
I needed a new chain saw chain and I checked online and Lowe's said they didn't have any in stock. Their online inventory usually doesn't match up to what is actually in the store, and they are right next door to Aldi, so I stopped anyway, and got 2 new chains. Wood is just not lasting this season at all.
I need to get the rest of the groceries in the house and get started on barn chores but I just can't get motivated to do anything...

I noticed canned carrots...and some others don't remember all that were marked off the top of my head...
Yep... which convinces me it's the same tactic as Tyson selling chicken advertised and labeled "NO added hormones!"... which made it exactly the same as every other brand of chicken, since there are no hormones labeled to be used in chickens (and there would be no benefit to it if there were... they already outgrow their ability to walk by 6-8 weeks.

Remember that it might not be the main ingredient. It's very likely and possible that it's one of the extras. And you can bet that they will find an alternative if it starts to affect their sales.
That is true... if they've added corn syrup or beet sugar to the carrots, it's likely GMO. Although why anyone would add sugar to canned vegetables is beyond me!

I haven't understood that for years. Or why they add it to beans, plain old regular beans. But it's one of the reasons I rarely buy canned veg. Another thing they've started adding to beans is calcium Chloride. Why do beans need pickle crisp?

When I have to buy them, I buy the organic, low salt. I pay more to get items that have fewer ingredients.

I haven't bought vegetables in... I dunno... 35 years? The last time I bought frozen baby peas (because our crop was poor and they were a favorite with the kids) they were GRITTY! Somehow, each pea had something like a grain of sand *inside* it!

Never did figure that one out, but it made me decide we'd do just fine eating whatever the garden provided. I did buy a bushel of fresh carrots or beets from my neighbors a couple of times, when our efforts fell short, and canned them myself. But at least I know what's in everything we eat.

We couldn't possibly afford to buy all organic, but that's the only realistic option to be sure your food is "clean" if you must purchase it.

For the longest time I would travel to the Amish community about 1.5 hours north. I may start doing that again. Even if just once a month to fill in gaps when the veggies are in season.

Just be careful... the community we lived in never saw a chemical they didn't like! And directions? Hold out times? Those were silly!

Amish doesn't necessarily correlate to organic... some are, but it's personal, not part of their lifestyle.

The community I was going to got sucked in by Monsanto giving free corn seed. But when it came down to it, they decided to stop growing corn to get out from under the control Monsanto was trying to exert. They grow a lot of other things, but not corn. Eventually they may return to growing corn but not until they can be sure they won't be on the receiving end of a Monsanto lawsuit.

My news for medical turned out to be absolutely great. And then I got some quick errands in. Friend got some Duluth Trading pants to try. He absolutely will not spend the money to try them himself so I got him a pair. If they work then we don't have to keep hunting all over existence for his preferred style and brand that are no longer easy to find. (He can be as picky as my son about pants.)

I managed to get Post Its at the Dollar Tree so I avoided Walmart. Then Costco. And gas. Then home.

I'm beyond pissed at son's neuro now. She canceled his mid level medication completely. Then replaced his emergency med with something new when it didn't need replacing. And has done absolutely nothing about the base level that becomes the migraines. I'm done with her, absolutely done. I'm waiting for a call back from his primary to send him to a different neuro. The new one will be the one his primary typically uses. And if they can't handle him, hopefully they know who can. We ended up with this one because his peds neuro recommended her. I should have known better. His peds neuro was her own bag of problems.

Otherwise, got my walking in. Spoiled two friends today, and enjoyed every minute of it. These are two people that have had my back for over 20 years and are now having rough times. It feels so good to be able to help them for once.

I did look at some more Del Monte cans...corn, potatoes, and Italian zucchini with tomatoes are all marked non GMO..
Just noticed it standing in the store..then looked at the other name brands..and not mentioned on their cans...I find corn interesting because we don't really grow that... I really do prefer the non GMO...corn...

We grow a lot of veggies but not everything..and mostly heirlooms..and sometimes our garden gives us tons and other years not so much...
We can lots and dehydrate lots but sometimes fill in the holes... canned since we don't buy lots of store veggies we do try for organic or non GMO even if they cost more..

This year green beans not so good... we were just too dry...and still are all...... but last year ...we were overwhelmed with them...so I canned them all...what ever God gives us...
I try not to buy Tyson chicken..if possible... We like Perdue ....and Springhill Farms more than Tyson...

Daughter is back in the hospital, but a different one. The doctors at the first one screwed up royally when they treated her. The new doctors will be performing surgery this morning to try to fix what the other doctors botched. Prayers are appreciated.

Yes, she intends to contact an attorney regarding the first doctors screw ups.

I got the Christmas cards ready to mail yesterday. It's not such a big chore anymore; less than a dozen.

We finished my job and got the trash dumped at the county yard. I just have to do my invoices to drop in the mail today.

We need a couple of new hatchet handles. We can't find one locally. I guess we will have to order online to get one. It's just little aggravating things like that we seem to run into more and more.

We ran into Kroger to get their sale items. They were already out of the King Arthur flour, but we got the mayo and bacon. The mayo even had a best by date of August of next year. We haven't been finding it with a date that far out lately, so I only had one extra in the pantry. We only bought one item that wasn't on this weeks sale. I need to check my split peas in stock. I have been wanting split pea soup. I have enough to cook it, but not sure how many are put back.

We aren't getting the grandkids this week. They have all been sick. That means we have gotten a little caught up here. I pulled some muscidines out of the freezer and juiced them. Tomorrow I will strain it and make jelly for the kids and my sister for Christmas. I still have not put ornaments on the tree. I may not. Just lights with an angle on the top is pretty and a lot less work.

Prayers and blessings for the weekend.

We did part of my job yesterday. We picked up 3 areas that we usually do the second day. But now our 2nd day will be shorter. We didn't have a lot of trash to get but someone left us 4 tires. Three of them were big tires like off a dump truck. I was able to load them easier than I thought. We don't get a lot of tires, but some people are just idiots.

Saturday was our dinner with hubbys side of the family. It was nice. We did just finger foods. His brother has it as his house. They have a big room off their garage that holds us all.

I was making oatmeal raisin cookies to take half to the family dinner and half to the church dinner Sunday. I put 2 pans in the oven to bake. When I checked on them they were just spread out and flat as could be. I forgot to add the flour. LOL! So I made granola but really unhealthy granola. I threw some flour into the bowl of batter that was left and carried on. They were good.

After finishing my job yesterday, we went to Kroger and got their sale items before we missed them. I only got noodles and Ritz crackers. Kroger was out or doesn't carry the big cans of coffee that was on the sale. Next week looks like mayo, tostitos, and bacon will be my stock up items.

My chickens are barely laying. I am going to have to hatch some replacements this spring. And I need to cull some of these older ones. I can them and make broth. It's so much better than what you can buy. But the older i get, the more I dread doing it.

Have a good week everyone.
I wish we had a Kroger closer to us. I rarely get in your direction. The only chain in our general area is Harps and it's hit or miss on how fresh their flour and corn meal are. I've figured out it's better rotated if the store isn't close to a supercenter. Our WM hasn't had much of a variety of brands to offer since covid.

Coldest morning we've had in awhile. It's right at 18 degrees. I've been going out in 15 minutes intervals and chipping away at the barn chores. I wish it would warm up a little because I've got a lot to do today. But I've learned if I let myself get too chilled it will cause me problems for the next week...

My doctor visit yesterday didn't go so well. I had to have lots of tests done, and one of those tests required an IV with contrast. It made me so dizzy. I was afraid I was going to become nauseated, too. I felt bad the rest of the evening. All the tests showed that I still have fluid built up around my retina in my bad eye. She prescribed RX pills, that I have to pick up today in town, for me to take for the next couple of weeks. If that doesn't do the job, I'll have to start with the injections. My next appointment is Dec. 28th. Still praising God, cause we know He has a plan. He is always good.

We have a lot of places to go in small town, today. I don't feel well, but it all needs to be done. I'm just really tired. Don't like shopping on weekends, but it's the last chance I'll get before Tuesday of next week. I need to stop in at our bank, before Sunday, so I have to go, today.

FF, I'm still praying for your daughter.

I woke up weird this morning after a very long night of sleep. Much longer than normal. Head hurt, eyes hurts, chest hurt. After about an hour awake I realized that I likely had picked up some type of uck while running around. Especially since son was acting the same way. So I got the diffusers going with a touch of camphor and some hinoki wood oil. Once that started helping across the board, I got some acetaminophen in both of us to keep the aches tamed. Not gone, just tamed.

Then I almost completely lost my brain when the post office delivered one package, but not the other. Although both were marked delivered. And, of course, the one missing was the keto cookies that I had allowed myself to get. Fortunately, a quick call to post office had that sorted out before the package was claimed by someone else. And the first bite of chocolate macaroon settled a whole bunch of things. The second style is a form of dutch waffle cookie that I got addicted to a few years back but rarely allowed myself to have. Finding them in keto size was a happy moment. And both are individually packed so I can keep myself from going crazy on them. (And in addition to being keto safe, the calories aren't high either.)

The replacement laptop cord arrived so I should be able to get that recharged today. And then see how it works out.

I had to politely remind boss that she is giving my 12 easiest to handle account to the new person on Monday. That leaves me with the 40+ more difficult accounts to handle. And then she's been dropping additional problems in my lap all week. I'm not a miracle worker, nor do I want to be. And I am not dedicating my entirety of waking hours to this. This is nothing new to her but she occasionally forgets when she takes on too much work and forgets to set personal boundaries of her own. But next week, I take on yet another of the more complex clients. It's a balancing act. And I do truly like my boss and the job.

Feeling.... odd this morning. DH has gone to pick up a truck body (think semi-trailer still on wheels/tires, I think) for storage. This makes... 4? or 5 we have now that the plan is to move things from buildings into them for storage. It just feels like we are packing everything that is important (because when we move things to the trailers, we are going thru them and tossing what is no longer any good) in a way that is portable. We have no plans on relocating. It just feels odd.

for me, I"m going to get some skittles freezedrying for a friend along with buttermilk I bought on sale yesterday. the buttermilk is enough for at least 6 months and would probably keep in the fridge, but it will be in the way - so I'll freeze dry it. I also need to can some potatoes, cut more wood, and do laundry.
