That's very likely! And you're probably stressing over the high blood pressure readings (as well as your MD), which of course ends up in a vicious circle. Praying you find something which can help you relax and destress (and I'm sure the clean bill of health in regards to Cary's kidney issues will help!)

Yeah. Stressing over high BP just makes it worse. I have my very first eye injection on the 28th, so I'm stressing over that, too. I just know it's going to be awful. She wouldn't write me a script for Valium like my dentist does, but I'm taking one of my anti-anxiety meds right before my appointment time.

I've got all my laundry done and put away. Just pulled pecan pies from the oven. I wanted to make a batch of fudge, too, but I didn't have any chocolate chips in the freezer like I thought I had (added to grocery list). So, that's a no go for today. I'll keep one pie for us to eat, and the other will be frozen for Christmas Day at our family dinner. I'll do the same with the pumpkin pies I plan to make Sunday afternoon.

Friday . . . already! Geez. But at least the packets of goodies have been made and delivered, some grocery shopping is finished (fresh fruit & veggies), and the garage is under control. (I'm waiting for some help to mount the kayaks.)

I still don't know what I want to make for holiday meals: the meat was badly picked over and expensive, as in $30 for a T-bone. No.

I'm starting to think along the lines of beef stew, garlic bread, and a single-serving container of wine for Christmas dinner. The stew can also be frozen and reheated later. No whole chickens, just large turkeys. Hams . . . don't get me started. Huge, off-brand ones, starting around $35. I just want a single-serving.

I'm heading out in a few minutes to another store, several towns over. Yes, I should've picked up stuff a lot earlier in the week. Well, I'll make do with what I can find. If nothing else, grilled pork chops, mashed potatoes from scratch, and a slice of chocolate cake will be cool, too.

It's 50 here and still very foggy in spots.

If I can find a single serving of pie, it's coming home with me! I just don't want a whole one in the house. I'll eat it all! I can smell those lovely pies all the way in Iowa, SB!

The store I'm going to will have single pieces of cake for sale. If not, I'll make 4 chocolate and cranberry muffins.

I'm making Christmas supper for just myself and Cary tomorrow night. That way, we get to eat what we like. Family Christmas Day dinner, we'll probably just pick over whatever they make, except for what I bring. Ya never know what's going to show up on their table.

Tomorrow, I'm making a big pan of chicken dressing with giblet gravy, I have left over smoked turkey breast slices from Thanksgiving that have been stored in the freezer, mashed potatoes, peas, and dinner rolls. Pecan pie will be our dessert. I'll make 2 batches of the dinner rolls, since I have to bring a batch to our family meal. I'll freeze theirs.

Crap. Totally forgot tomorrow was laundry day. Will work loads of sheets and towels in today between cooking hams and potatoes while the guys fix the sink. I really like fresh sheets. Hoping whoever made the fantastic chocolate cake with coconut, marshmallows and pecans for Thanksgiving does a repeat for Christmas. The few gifts we bought are under tree. Peppermint candy canes are on tree. Grands and great grands love them.

When I was little, my grandpa would give us kids one of those giant peppermint sticks for Christmas. We would keep them in door of freezer and break off pieces. Now DH and I are the old folks.

Yeah, when did I get old? In my mind, I'm still 30.

Yeah, when did I get old? In my mind, I'm still 30.

Mom had a doctor's appointment, yesterday. Her doctor ask her how old she was. I'm guessing he was checking for dementia. She's 83, but she told him she was 38. He looked at her real funny like. She told him that when one got as old as her, they started reversing the numbers, LOL. She told him that she didn't feel like an old woman in her mind, but her body begged to differ.

Today I visited the young family with 7 children. I took 4 boxes of things to them. I took bracelets and necklaces for the girls and a stuffed bear for the 2 year old boy. The 10 year old boy got a nice sling shot recently. I included some books, one was Grimm Fairy tales, and a couple or more of things I can't remember. 3 boxes of food. Bless the mom's heart she said don't make yourself short on food, I laughed and said not to worry on that front. I forgot several things. The 9 year old girl got a cook book from someone and I asked her if she'd like more and her eyes lit up. I told the mom that I didn't want to overwhelm them and she said not to worry.

Two weeks down, one to go without water service due to leaking water line between the meter and the house. We cheated and turned the water back on yesterday long enough to flush the line and refill all three of my 55 gallon barrels. Leaking around 150 gallons per hour, so the hour and twenty minutes I had the water on leaked around 200 gallons in addition to my usage which was around 200 gallons. I filled some smaller containers also so that would be less pumping from a barrel by me. Plumber is scheduled to start work next Wednesday morning. No telling how long it will take them to replace the water line. Will likely refill barrels again on Monday or Tuesday just to be safe in case Murphy shows up when they start..

We did cheat and go to our daughter's house for three days over the weekend (Sun - Tues). We took all of our laundry and did it there. It sure was nice to be able to get a shower instead of just wiping off.

Daughter was released from hospital Wednesday. Her brother that lives with her drove her home, so we didn't have to make a second out of town trip. Still unsure if her fingers will survive. Her lupus is involved in the problem with her hand and fingers initiated by the injury. Still praying the fingers can be saved.

I know how scary that can be. I have Lupus. When I had to have surgery on my wrists and thumbs, they just would not heal in a timely manner. Because my wrist wouldn't heal, I was hospitalized with a serious infection after the surgery. Lupus affects my fingers on both hands. I've got your daughter covered in prayer.

Sorry, I didn't see this until now. If you have an Aldi, their store brand canned hams are excellent. They're $2.99 at my store, and I could get 2 meals out of the can.

Yes, that's a great buy! But I just wanted one slice because it's so high in sodium. I thought it would be an easy Christmas dinner and a treat because I don't eat a lot of ham.

I drove over to another town and had much better luck! I was able to get one slice of ham, a whole chicken, some stew meat, and several little rib eyes that didn't break the bank (one might be for New Year's). I also looked for
single servings of prime rib, but those weren't available today. I don't think I'm going back tomorrow: it'll be a zoo!

In fact, I'm not planning on going anywhere tomorrow, unless it's to the trails or the hardware. Most retail stores are going to be mobbed: almost everyone I've talked to has put off their gift shopping! :strs:

Thank you and everyone here for your prayers.

The biggest problem with the lupus in the past has been hundreds of kidney stones. This time it is causing blood clots in her fingers, blocking the circulation.

What a day. That's pretty much how it's been. Lots of hours this week. Tired and yet not tired. Already streamlining the new responsibilities. I have no patience for wasted time and duplicate efforts. I already started creating templates. Boss says that next week the new girl is taking over the simple stuff. That gives me one week to streamline hard before a new bundle of adventures lands on my desk.

I have some pantry spaces that need deep cleaning tomorrow. A mouse found its way in. I'm pulling the steel buckets, wiping anything undamaged, and sealing them for now. Then going in with garbage bag and gloves.

Brother's boss offer him use of the company pickup for the weekend so that he can also grab the roofing supplies that Dad has. So I don't have to do the run south to get him before we head over.

I'm cleaning and cooking this weekend. I arranged a grocery delivery to parents. Mom's cheating on her diet because she hasn't found a keto bread. So I sent her some new things to try. And some things for son.

I'm hoping for a calm peaceful weekend with the energy to get lots of stuff done.

For the last 3 months, we've had doctor appointments all the way into Tupelo almost every other day. That has totally and completely taken us out of our comfort zone. We're just home bodies. Plus, I got very concerned over a wrong diagnosis for Cary. I am beginning to think that my high BP is due to all the stress of it all. I'm watching to see if it goes down now that we're sorta back to living our normal lives. My consistently high BP didn't start, until we got that wrong diagnosis that Cary had kidney disease.
Stress will absolutely do it. The health problems hubs has had the last couple of years has had me fighting with mine. In addition to my regular BP med, I take 400mg CoQ10 and a cod liver oil capsule. Numbers have been trending down since I added them. I do have Clonidine I take if it gets too high.

I rarely take ibuprofen or tramadol, but when I do, it raises my BP.

It should be a quiet weekend at home. Should being the operative word. Dinner with the family at SIL's tomorrow at noon - I'm taking deviled eggs and banana pudding made with moonpies instead of vanilla wafers, then DH has to go in at midnight to plow snow. He will probably be at it all weekend, so Christmas dinner for us (at least what I have planned right now) is tamales, 7 layer dip with chips, ribbon jello salad and cookies.

Hopefully I'll also get some cleaning and organizing done.

Would any of you have use for a bunch of tapestry/upholstery samples? They are 24x24 inch ish, and from the 80s probably. I also have a piece of artificial leather? All this came from the house we helped do the clean out on. It won't sell on Ebay (I don't think) and if I donate it to goodwill, it will get pitched. I also just put a bunch of vintage 80s women's blouses on my ebay listings if any of you are interested, PM me and I'll give you my username. It's a little overwhelming, but I'm getting it done a bit at a time. I also have a bunch of old cookbooks (1940s-1980s) that I am donating to a used bookstore. If any of you might be interested, let me know and I'll post what I have.

Woke up stiff and sore this morning. I think it's time to get the heated blankets set up. Using the heating pad to get the muscles to unstiffen and then getting started for the day.

I'm not liking son's new migraine med. It was 3 days before he woke up with a smile instead of needing more medicine.

I'm tempted to make myself French toast this morning. I haven't had it in a long time. I think I can make extra and reheat it on Christmas morning before we leave.

You can get your canner gauge tested without the canner. In fact, the extens
ion office used to ask that they be taken off the canner to be tested.

if you brought the whole canner - they'd remove it >>> all the "test" consists of is a comparison of the canner gauge against one that is "out of the box" from the manufacturer - if both read the same - your gauge is OK ....

if there's any possibility of your canner gauge getting "whacked" or the whole canner being dropped or abused while in storage >>> remove the gauge - cushion wrap it into a box - store it inside the canner

Slow and steady continues here.

I ran out to the local dollar general yesterday to get a fee more “stocking stuffers” for hubby. While there I picked up a couple more low dose aspirin, toothpaste, and some paper/styrofoam plates, bowls and cutlery ($1 each). I am going to put these in a dishpan to store away in the event of a power outage. We rarely use paper products, but I know we would if er lost power.

I still have a bit of an uneasy feeling, but am choosing not to stress over it and am giving it to God.

I store lots and lots of paper plates, bowls, cups, and utensils in case we have limited water use, or a power outage. Sometimes, I use them to put snacks in or on. I figure I can never have too many of each. I mostly buy when I see one of them on sale.

Cary and I were talking over coffee yesterday morning about the bad feeling we were both getting about next year. We've given it all to God, too, and we aren't doing anything differently, unless we get a nudge from Him about doing more. We've done just about all we can do, except try and maintain what we already have. Even that might be hard to do as time goes on. God will provide where we are lacking. I'm sure of it.

Finished new faucet install at midnight. We have water for Christmas dinner today. Some work schedules meant delaying meal until noon. I am good with that. We usually skip breakfast and have big meal between 10:30 and 11. Grand is coming early to help me finish cooking while DH makes drive to nursing home. MIL was quite excited to hear she would get to see some of her grands, greats and great greats.

DH and I will do absolutely nothing for the next 2 days. We will both have to recover from yesterday. Had a couple back spasms last night so was praying my back doesn't complain today. Realized I made 4 gallons of sweet tea instead of 3. Middle grand will probably sneak a gallon to his car. He will be over again next week to help us finish a stove pipe issue.

We lost a lot of friends and loved ones this year. It seemed like once Limner left us, death came in like a flood. Today we will remember them and make more memories of our own to recall later. Hope to go through great grandma's quilts today and see that everyone gets one. I won't have to store them and they will be treasured.

We don't have a kids table but we have these antiques called TV trays. The greats will be using them in the living room. Haven't tuned the piano in years but greats will give it a workout anyway. Guys will talk smack and shoot pool while us women folk catch up on stuff before we show them how to run the table.

Life has thrown a lot of curve balls at everyone this year. Merry Christmas and blessings to all. If ya need a cyber hug just ask. Praying for everyone spending the holidays at the hospital. Or the funeral home. Been there, done that and I feel your pain. Today I am going to collect hugs. Tomorrow I am going to hold down my recliner like a pro.

Oh No! I'm keeping the prayers going. Lupus can affect people in so many different ways. I don't have an issue with kidney stones, but Lupus affects my bladder, and I do take a low dose blood thinner, because I have blood clotting issues, too. Not really bad, but I almost had my spinal surgery cancelled, because they were afraid I'd throw a clot. Waited til the next day, checked my blood again, and it was safe to go ahead with the surgery.

Today is cooking day. For mine and Cary's Christmas supper tonight and for the family dinner Christmas Day. I'll be spending most of my time today in the kitchen. I'm making enough for our supper tonight, so I'll have plenty of left overs for tomorrow night. I'll still be cooking tomorrow for our Family meal Christmas Day.

I must have still been half asleep when I checked my pockets before I threw my jeans in the washer this morning. I managed to wash half a dozen pieces of peppermint candy. It appears to have just melted away, nothing is sticky. I'm glad I didn't have to run the load thru twice.
And good news --- my car decided to start! I guess it was just too cold the other morning.
Fed Ex said they had delivered my parcels at "the garage" so I was afraid they had given them to one of the neighbors I don't speak to. It literally takes half an acre to turn the truck around so I was really glad the car started. My parcels were sitting in the middle of another neighbor's driveway. Very thankful they got here! It all shipped from the same warehouse but they put my stuff in 5 separate packages (3 of them were multiples of the same thing). I guess they have holiday help that doesn't know what they're doing.

Glad it worked out for you, Marseydoats!

Saturday . . . already! At least I'm now mostly ready for the rest of the weekend and Christmas. I was even blessed with a piece of pumpkin pie and a piece of apple pie (different neighbor). That's awesome because there weren't any single slices available at the stores, just whole pies. I put the slice of cake I purchased into the freezer for New Year's.

Christmas dinner will be either a little rib eye or the slice of ham, mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, a slice of pie, wine, and coffee. I'll decide for sure when the time comes. Today, I'm cooking the whole chicken, and I'll break that down into two dinners and sandwiches.

The main project today is to quickly go through each room, gather what doesn't belong, and either toss that or put it away. After that, the same quick once-over with vac and broom. I'll get back to deep-cleaning next week. This is just in case anyone comes over. I want to make sure all of the cobwebs are history. The kitchen and living room are presentable, and for once, both laundry and dishes are finished at the same time, so no complaints from me. What a lift! My house has been such a disaster. Now, it's almost back to normal.

About two hours into cleaning and I realize that while I lost some things but not near as much as I was afraid of. I had been better at keeping stuff in safe containers than I thought. But doing some purging while I'm cleaning. I figure I might as well do it while I'm already in there.

I like the tins I'm using for teas. It just makes a nice neat stack. And I used some of them for the Liquid IV sticks. There's a bag of containers that I need to clean the outside of with bleach. And since there is a time limit, I'm about to grab some of the 5 gallon steel buckets and dump vulnerable items in there until I have more time.

The other day I washed some mufflers that had been on the bedroom door in my camper for several years. Most came out okay, but there had been a roach problem in the camper and the wash left a pile of dead roaches in the bottom of my washer, right now I am running an empty load with hot water to help clean it up. I have a few loads of clothes that I need to get washed before Christmas and in case the power goes off. We can run the washer with the generator but not the dryer.

Our Christmas will be spiraled sliced ham, instant mashed potatoes, instant mashed sweet potatoes, green peas, maybe green beans and a cobbler cooked in my crockpot (maybe), might cook it in the oven.

My last grocery pickup was a couple of weeks ago, but I ran in walmart last week and got the ham. I've got a list for walmart, but I'm thinking of waiting before I buy, nothing really crucial. I don't need anything.

I ordered a nice puffy mattress pad for DH's bed, we have crappy mattress. He doesn't know and it won't get here until Jan 4th

I'm taking a break from cooking right now. I have my chicken and dressing all made and ready for the oven, later. I've also got 2 batches of yeast dinner rolls rising. I'll cook both batches, and for family Christmas meal, they'll just need to be warmed in the oven. One batch is for us, tonight. The rest of our meal tonight will be buttered mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, sliced smoked turkey breasts, butter beans, the rolls, and pecan pie for dessert. I have vanilla ice cream for the warmed pecan pie.

I have 50 deviled eggs to make tomorrow! I'll keep them in the fridge overnight, plus pumpkin pies to make for family dinner Christmas Day. I'm glad I went ahead and made the rolls today for our family meal. One less thing I'll have to do tomorrow.

We are home from the emergency vet. They aren’t exactly sure what caused her to vomit so much, but did rule some things out.
Xrays came back clear where neither the doctor or radiologist saw a blockage. They did find she has a uti and prescribed antibiotics but think that was secondary to her gastro issues. (She has been pooping and peeing like normal so we are hopeful for no blockages).
Her timeline is as follows. She threw up a small amount saturday morning but was fine rest of the day Saturday, Sunday and all day Monday until evening. Monday night she vomited a lot (several times). She slept though the night. I started a bland diet of chicken and rice yesterday (smaller amounts spread out every few hours) and she held it all down. She was still acting fine, gums pink, etc. Early this morning (around 4am) she started throwing up again. A lot. It started as the yellow bile, but then had some spots of blood in it. We knew we wanted her seen by a vet today. She threw up 5-6 times from 4-8. I called the vet at 8 this morning, and they couldn’t get us in. (We are at our one day full time home and hadn’t seen the vet here - they recommended an emergency vet an hour away.). We went. Our first estimate was over $2200 walking in the door. I almost fainted but reminded myself it would be okay. The biggest picture was her. I told myself this was also why I have pet insurance for her as I never want to make a medical decision for her based on cost. They did Xrays, blood work, rehydrated her with the fluids under the skin, and gave her nausea meds and sent us home with more plus an antibiotic for the uti. Final cost was $1300 (before insurance) with me paying $537.
We do have a call in with our regular vet to touch base with him and will head there tomorrow if need be.

Lessons learned in all of this:
-keep half tank of gas in Vehicle at all times
-know a vet’s number of when visiting to areas
-I need to keep more canned chicken / rice on hand at this location
-I am thankful for my pet insurance
-I am thankful I put away a small amount each month in the event “something happens”
- I need to become more knowledgeable on what to do in the event of no vet availability
I'm not a vet, but have seen this before.

Had a wonderful Sabbath service for church today. We have done it via teleconference for about six years now, since well before Covid. My wife has issues sitting for an extended period of time without her feet being elevated.

Right as the service ended, my youngest son called. His sister was once again released from the hospital and he drove Kansas City, picked her up, and returned back to her house. The doctors said that her circulation was good. She still has some black areas that are damaged, but will hopefully heal eventually. She has an appointment with the doctor in about three weeks. They had to up her pain medication. It is like when the feeling comes back after frostbite, except even more intense.

She started a new job about a month ago as Director of Nursing for a nursing home that she had previously worked at part time when she was still teaching nursing. She has a Masters degree. They are allowing her to work part time as she is able to while she recovers.

Anyway this has been one of the better days of late. Wife and I went to Culver's to get supper tonight. No Culver's or several of the other places we like to eat down where we are moving. There are nine or ten different fast food chains within a few blocks of her house, and a couple of other restaurants that we will need to try. There are two Mexican restaurants within a few blocks, but both are not good food. There is one other Mexican restaurant in town, so we will have to try it after we get settled there.

I will likely not be on here a lot for the next few weeks until we get moved and settled. I hate moving.

Actually if the place checking the gauge is competent, they are checking it against a gauge that had been calibrated and certified on at least an annual basis by a professional calibration lab. At my last job, part of my QA duties was to check the calibration/accuracy of the pressure gauges used on the production floor. I had to send the master gauges on the test fixture out for calibration every six months. They were checked against a master gauge which itself was checked against an NIST master gauge regularly.
