Good morning, everyone.

Nothing going on here, today, except home fellowship/Bible study.

It's going to be another hot one. 95 with heat index of 103. We do have another chance of an afternoon thunder boomer. I hope we get another good soaking, otherwise, we'll be watering again tomorrow.

Thank you for starting the thread this week, Judy! I was having trouble sleeping because I'd been trying to sort out some financial crap r/t work and was letting it get to me - needed to take break, and just now calmed down enough to be at least sorta human. I think I'm finally calm enough to drink my morning coffee without it revving me back up

Temps are going to be in the high 80's this week, but the nights will be in the 50's and 60's, so we're still good with ceiling fans. Plans for today include finishing planting what I can of the garden - the sweet corn seed did a runner; I've no dang clue where it might be - so I'll have Hubby pick some up on his way home from work tomorrow. :hlp: I need sugar baby watermelon seed too; maybe I'll just make the run to town myself after the pool tomorrow  I've got another empty spot that I'm contemplating planting some soup beans from the pantry - they'll need a good soaking first for sure.

Well, the hummingbirds have already emptied one feeder, so I reckon I'd better go refill it... You folks take care out there, stay safe!

Morning all …. relaxing here with some coffee and trying to decide how productive I am going to be today. I know I am going to get one bathroom cleaned and organized and am debating painting another bathroom.
Hmmmmm.

I definitely want to get a walk in. Working on my health remains a priority as I consider it a very important “prep”.

Got pancakes and bacon made for the guys...a friend of DH'S is here to pick up stuff he's stored here since last fall. We are seeing a few campers, which is good. We list our ponds on hip camp for rental and so far it's been good. I have a retreat that I'm a presenter for that I need to work on....and then all the usual, cleaning, laundry, gardening, work. It will be a steady week, but thankfully no out of town trips. My 100 year old aunt passed Thursday, but I am not going to go to the funeral. I do need to get flowers sent though.

I was sorting through some of my tops yesterday, putting the flannel away and trying to find lighter weight ones to wear now. I found a pale green blouse that must be missized because I remember putting it on awhile back and it was too tight, tried it on today and it fits nicely. I always wear earrings that match and I found my box of different colored glasses. So today I'm wearing green glasses, I guess matching so much ages me but what the hay, I'm already old and I'll wear what I want to.

Today I am paying for the 4 hours in Sam's Club. It took everything I had to get moving. My body desperately wants me to go back to bed.

But I know better. So I finally grabbed a dose of caffeine. I already took Midol. Hopefully, in about an hour, I'll feel normal again. But I'm going to take it easy today and stick with laundry and dishes. Another night of good sleep should help me bounce back.

The older I get, the more I dress for comfort. I wear a lot of t shirt dresses and skirts, or when I'm working on the farm I wear capris and a t shirt. The only person I care to impress is my husband.

Judy there was major flooding in Shreveport . Hoped it would have drifted west but not a drop here

Back in the day I seriously don't remember so much flooding in Shreveport or Bossier City.

Sundresses and capris in the summer and jeans and leggings in the winter. Cary likes them all, and that's all that matters. I do make it a 'thing" to be coordinated, though. I have never been one to dress sloppy.

Year round I wear jeans and knee length shorts. Around the house I look like something the dogs drug up. When I do try to look nice I like to be coordinated. I can look like I just stepped out of a band box or a complete slop. Evey time I try to wear a dress or a skirt I change clothes, totally not me anymore. I dress for myself, not DH, but he usually likes how I look. He liked my looks enough to marry me.

Managed to get quite a bit done today - cleaned house, 3 loads of laundry, make homemade bisquik, cream of whatever soup mix, cinnamon sugar, caramel sauce. Planned a week's worth of menus, and worked on cleaning the canning kitchen.

Yesterday ended up being quite productive. Laundry done. Walk completed.
Hubby and I dug out and laid out big rocks for a landscaping border and found and laid out some large patio pavers for our fire pit area. I also organized under the kitchen sink and have a couple of things to the thrift shop we don’t use.
Today will involve some mulching and creating a pathway with pavers.

We didn't get that rain we needed, yesterday. Today is hopeful, though. It's going to be another hot one, today.

I'm finishing up on all the laundry, today. I'll be in doctor's offices for the next 3 days, so I want to get that done and out of the way. If it doesn't rain by late this afternoon, we'll be watering the gardens again. I'm also cooking out a pound and a half of bacon. Some will be used for our supper tonight, and the rest will go back in the freezer to be used for sandwiches, burgers, and bacon bits as needed.

Cary has to make a run into small town this morning to pick up his RX drugs at Walgreen's. His insurance coverage will only use Walgreen's for maintenance RX drugs. He gets a 3 month supply at a time.

We did get a good soaking hard rain last night, second day in a row, only the one last night was more than the one the night before. I wonder if the cucumber plants have popped up that DH planted a few days ago.

The fridge out in DH's workshop is not cooling on the bottom. We are going to look for another one today. There is a used appliance store in a town near us. If we can find one at a decent price we'll put this one in the cabin, the freezer works great. We mostly keep commodity cheese and sodas in the bottom. We give the cheese away from time to time. Its like velvetta and just as disgusting.

Can this really be Monday, again, the days run together. June the 5th, my mother's birthday. So happy birthday in heaven.

My laundry is in decent shape, one or two loads. I need to wash the towels that are on our recliners. And no dishes to wash, its a miracle that I'm keeping that up.

Logged in today and played whack a mole for work. Both boss and I are frustrated beyond belief. But we took over everything as of last week. And as soon as we get it all up to date, it should go much smoother. It's just frustrating getting there. But the source of most of the problems got herself fired, so once the rhythm is smooth things will be good.

Debating an ER trip. Son is acting really odd and continually in bathroom. And then he refused to eat. But half an hour later completely flipped, ate everything, grabbed a bag of pretzels, and drank a large cup of tea. So I have no clue. But I have doctor permission so if he keeps in and out of the bathroom, we'll head down. Especially since he can't seem to provide anything to test. And yes, I have stuff on hand for some basic tests.

Sprinklers due today will arrive tomorrow. And then I'll get watering automated for the season.

Replacement sunglasses are on the way. In this house they are mandatory. And we have to get the old clunky ones because of glasses and big heads (literally). And amber/copper colors because grey/black is actually headache trigger for both of us. I did find green and blue. I got them for son to try. They may help him. I know he's got color blindness, just not what type.

But I lost my last pair on his doctor visit last week. So I'll have to get a few more pairs to tuck back after we recover from the tire surprise this weekend. I honestly don't know where the other two pairs I had disappeared to. I suspect son got a hold of them but typically I find them later.

We resealed my soffit just over a week ago. We pissed off the adults that had nested there but that's life. I let them hatch the fledgling and the fledgling left. But then, this past weekend, two more pairs of birds showed up and tried to get in the soffit. What the frag? Were they all using it as a motel and just trading out?

There are more birds this year then I'm used to seeing. It's a good thing I used the cups to protect the seeds and seedlings. I may need to stop and get some more spinners at another dollar store.

Well, when the sprinklers arrive, I can finish the set up. Hoses are in place and connected. I just finished resetting the timer. I got the 4 way splitter fixed. And the two way.

I use a four way on the hose bib end solely because my timer is old and Big. A two way just wouldn't have enough space to allow for a regular hose to be connected as well. And there needs to be a hose that goes to the backyard.

I have another timer that I tripped across at a garage sale. But reviews are mixed and I'm not willing to risk it right now. It looks like we are going to have a very dry June, which is not normal for us. It leaves me wondering whether we will have 3 dry months or if Fall is going to start early again.

Once this is done, I'll start on moving the plants off the porch. A lot of the new baby bushes will stay in gallon pots for this year. I'll put them in between vegetable beds so that they get regular watering.

The hibiscus, bunching onions, locate, cutting celery, and calendula will all get larger pots, much larger. And put to one side or the other of the vegetable beds for now.

This will give them time to get stronger, and also time for me to be sure where I want their final home to be. Although hibiscus is seasonal here, so those just get to get big and I'll harvest flowers as they come, and leaves in the fall.

Once that is done, it's back to new compost pile, and combining tree debris pile, and plotting "decorative" fence using some of the larger tree trunks. Decorative fence kind of jumped up the list because it would force people to come within camera range to approach the garden beds or the van.

It's not a perfect solution but it should help until garage space can be made for the van. It's a detached garage. And we can't install an automatic door opener do to issues with the rafters. But if we can clear room to fit the van, then we will. Tires have gotten too bloody expensive and the van uses truck tires.

And the gut is just saying that the time is coming for when it needs to happen. And I've learned to listen to the gut.

So much to get done over the next 2 days. Most of it involves posting fliers for an event I'm hosting in about 3 weeks. We'll see how it goes. One of the other hosts is doing the social media part, but I need to run around town, and still get gardening done, and setting up the canning kitchen for the season, and weeding, and ... and... and...

I can’t believe it is time to can and dehydrate already. Not to mention loading up the greenhouse for fall planting! Canned beets in my new summer kitchen. I am so thankful for that kitchen. Honestly I use it just about all year.Harvested our first corn and tomatoes are starting to turn. Just waiting for that first BLT!

We cut 2 smaller hay fields Sunday afternoon after checking the rain forecast. No rain till Thursday. Chances less than 5%. Then Sunday evening the rain forecast had rain chances 30% or greater every day for pop up showers. We got almost an inch of rain yesterday evening. My garden really needed it but the hay did not. Weather forecasting has really gotten pitiful the last few years. You just can't count on it anymore.

Hopefully the seed in the new garden will come up now that we got rain. Everything was terribly dry. I only had a seed here and there up so far. The storm had strong winds and some hail. One of my peach trees has a broken limb. It is still attached, so I will see if the peaches hold till they ripen. I have another limb to cut by my electric fence. It broke part way through but it's leaves are touching the fence now.

My niece went to a food show in California for her work. Part of the food was bugs. I kid you not. She ate a scorpion. No way, no how. But "they" want it to seem normal. I don't know if any other bugs were featured but I will ask when she gets home.

After we had gone and watered the gardens ourselves, we got a flood later on. Everything got watered really good. I've got cherry tomatoes getting ready to ripen, along with the 2 nice bell peppers I've already picked. So far, so good on everything.

PC doc, today, for just a check up. No big deal there. Nothing else in big town that I care about seeing, so we'll eat and come back home.

After cooking out all that bacon, yesterday, we had breakfast for supper last night. I told Cary while we were eating that it won't be long now, before we get to enjoy those delicious BLT's. Cheddar cheese, onion, bell pepper omelets, bacon, and hot biscuits with butter and jelly was our supper. YUM!

I read everybody's reports of high temperatures and rain and wonder what kind of bizarro world I'm in. Today we'll hit the highest temperature we've had since mid-October--75 degrees, and then high temperatures slide back down to the 60s for the next week. For the last 2 1/2 weeks we've had rain or chances of rain in the forecast every day and we still do for the next week. I live in the high desert and have for over 30 years. I've never seen anything like this. We've been under a flood advisory for at least three weeks--no flood danger for us (that would take a Noah-type event), but for people down below.

Well, it makes working in the garden really pleasant. The soil is sandy and drains really well. And when we get rain it's not like you guys--we measure in hundredths of an inch. I think we got 0.03 yesterday. We average 15" per year, and the vast majority of it comes as snow in winter. Of course, this year winter lasted 6 months. The last of our snow disappeared May 29.

Hoping to get watermelon and beans put in today. No, I've never gotten to harvest a ripe watermelon here, but I keep trying. Hope springs eternal.

Heavy rain last night didn't last long but it did take out the power. We are not a prepared in that area as I had thought. So we got a birds eye view on things we need to get done.

Here it is noon and I've done nothing to speak of, DH made the coffee. I just can't seem to get motivated. DH is out working on the generators.

Had an MD appointment yesterday - yep, it was right there on the calendar, by golly. I decided to throw some ice in the cooler and head to town early to do some shopping, then hit the doc's office on the way home. Hit the Sallies on the way in to town (nada), popped in to Goodwill (nada), stocked up at Aldi, and then the Evil Empire. Rural King was the last stop before the doc - cat food and pure cane sugar -different label on the sugar than last year (still said Pure Cane Sugar) and a price bump from 10#/$4.99 to 10#/$5.49. Got 4. Then I moseyed my way to the doc's office to discover that my appointment had been cancelled at some point in time. Whoops. Moved to a month and a half away, but scripts refilled so I'm good. I had a gift certificate for our favorite Italian restaurant so headed there and picked up two meals to go for supper. Last stop on the way home was at the small local grocery store - got there right at lunch time so lucked in to their giant loaded baked potatoes. Hubby and I split one for supper as they are pretty big. Other half of it is going to be used for twice baked potato soup with grilled ham and cheese sandwiches tomorrow as we've got a cold front coming through and the temps are going to drop in to the mid 70's.

Today, the neighbor lady and I headed to the pool; we got to talking and went 20 minutes past our usual time  Probably needed the exercise anyway. Then we went out to another nearby feed 'n seed as I needed more garden seed - specifically wanted more yellow bush beans, but lucked in to a 3 way mix of green, yellow and purple. I was also able to pick up a jar of apple butter, more bi-color sweet corn seed, and she had assorted colored fresh cherry tomatoes for sale - YUM!!

I just got a text that I have a 'script to pick up, so I guess I'll head over to that town and get it (4 different towns in 3 days - ugh!); Hubby was of the opinion that we had a severe deficit of ice cream sandwiches, so I reckon that will give me two good reasons to head over there. Then I'll come back home, finish my garden lay out plan, and get the rest of the seeds in the ground.

Take care folks; have a great rest of the day!

We had two tiny rain showers on Sunday and its supposed to start raining here any time for another short shower. I don't think all the "showers" the last two weeks would add up to a measureable amount. Thunder showers are in the forecast for tomorrow. So, on faith, this morning I went out and planted zinnia, marigold and other flower seeds plus a row of beets and replanted cantaloupe. After Sunday's showers the summer squash popped up and ONE cucumber seed. I'm going to wait until around the 15th to replant cucumbers.

My Siberian iris is blooming, and I went out to pick some only to find it's covered in ants. Decided to enjoy it through the kitchen window!

Monday, I got both bathrooms cleaned, laundry done, and three days dishes washed up. I tend to accomplish either inside chores or gardening but seldom both in the same day.

Just looked at the radar and it appears today's showers are going north and east of me. Bummer.

I called Extension Service about the tree yesterday and am waiting for a call back later this week. I hope they have some useful advice for me. I have decided to try to get someone to give me a written and signed statement about the danger of the tree and the fact it's dying, then I will have it taken down. I doubt my neighbor will sue me but if she does, I will countersue for her to pay me for taking down her dangerous tree. I'm pretty sure she thinks the tree is on my property due to my late dh mowing 3' on her side of the tree. I need to sit down and document all I've done so far in trying to get ahold of her and the tree problem. I'm assuming it will cost at least $1,500 to have it taken down and hauled away.

don't know about your area of the country - but around here $1500 doesn't go very far with a tree removal >> 24"+ diameter tree trunk and 50 feet tall is anywhere from $6-8,000 and that might not include a stump removal .....

Moldy, thank you; I am in fairly good spirits. I know that I am blessed in so many ways. Life happens, and I am so blessed to have family who are helping to care for me now, and will continue to care for me when I am no longer able to be alone.

:rs: I'm blessed to have a daughter who takes no prisoners while dealing very admirably with the financial issues with my employer and the insurance companies r/t my being off work (medical leave, short and long term disability, termination).
:rs:I am blessed to have worked for a facility for over 24 years whose benefits are very good; and where I enjoyed working. (With a minimum of jerk co-workers during most of that time )
:rs:I'm blessed to have a husband, who - while dismayed, finally accepted that, no - I won't be returning to work (he loved that nurse's paycheck so much, poor man.)
:rs:While I lost one of my very dearest friends at the beginning of this troubled time, I was so very blessed to be off work during his last days and to be able to stay with him and care for him 24/7 during that time.
:rs:I am blessed to have a spouse who will be able to retire by the time I require more care.
:rs:I am blessed to have a best friend who says she will load me in her truck and take me to the pool even if I'm a babbling fool.
:rs:I am blessed have a grandchild who says they will take care of me when Grandpa can't.
