I kind of overdid it yesterday. But the living room looks better. A lot better. And I'm waiting on a dresser that will be converted to a TV table.

I thought I was just sleeping late but then realized the time change.

I am hoping to first, start walking again. All this low activity is driving me nuts. But I need to balance that with the reduced stamina. Of course this is knowing that the stamina won't improve if I stay at the low activity level.

I am trying to find someone(s) that are willing to help in the garden. I have no issues with paying them but most don't like to take instruction from a female. And I don't like to use the people that Dad uses because they not only don't like to listen, they take stupid risks, and they like to "no habla ingles" their way out of doing things any way but the way they want to do them.

Other than that, same old, same old. I'm just figuring out things as I go along. Son's birthday is soon and I found him a few things. And I think I'll make him a batch of cookies.

Kyrsyan, I can still relate to the reduced stamina problem. I'm slowly getting more energy back, but there are still days where I have to quit before I want to and go hang out in my recliner.

My shopping project: find a pop-up drain that will fit my bathroom sink. I have one of those drain plugs that hooks into a lever below the sink, and I'm tired of having to pull everything apart every 14 months or so to clean it. Using a chemical like Draino is not a good idea because everything is plastic and PVC. It's just a poor design.

However, I have an oddly-sized sink, which is why I was going to try Fleet Farm. I'll order it if I have to, but I'd rather find it locally so I can confirm the measurements myself. And, yes, I'll also try Tractor Supply if that fails. Wallmart carries them, too, but they aren't the right size.

If that doesn't work out, I'll look into other alternatives or check the Re-Store for a new sink. The little ones aren't that expensive. It's the labor of having someone else install it that really increases the cost. However, this is a newer bathroom with PVC and PEX, so no soldering of copper pipes will be involved. I can work with PVC to a limited degree. (I had copper plumbing in my 40s house. I let the older plumbers work on that.)

Well, I think everyone is up now, so I can get going. I was the only one who started adapting to the time change early this time. I'm glad I did! I'm off most of this week, and I want to make some progress on these small projects. Also on the list is a new dryer vent set-up that is easier to clean and safer.

We decided yesterday to skip church and go out to eat in the town where the walmart I shop mostly at is. We decided on IHOP. However I could not go to sleep last night and didn't get up until 11:00 new time. I absolutely hate the time change. We changed all the clocks last night so as not to be confused this morning. It really didn't help. I'm on my second cup of coffee and need to get dressed. My hair really needs washing so I'm probably going to wear a baseball cap.

I worked in the kitchen last night and got a good bit done, still more to go. I've got some pork steaks thawed out in the fridge that really needs to be cooked. I'm toying with the idea of cooking instead of going out to eat. I don't like when I can't make up my mind about something.

It got down to 63 by my bed last night and then the furnace kicked on. So its colder and it looks like it will be somewhat colder for the next several days.

Meemur, enjoy your time off!

So glad i made soup yesterday. Gonna stay in my pajamas today unless a grandkids comes knocking.

I think we might truly be done with rental rehab by end of week. Going to celebrate by running away for a day or two then spending time with friends and family in KC. Will be taking flower bulbs from great grandma's and grandma's flower beds to kids that just purchased their first home. Also taking them a sewing machine, grandma's China and a box of other grandma items. More items I won't have to deal with.

Today I am consolidating grandma's sewing box, MIL'S sewing box and my own sewing stuff. Appears we each kept at least one damaged plastic sewing box along with a good one. I understand why we were all reluctant to replace them but I will be getting rid of them this time. Glad to have all the thread and other contents. Gotta pick up extra belts for sewing machines.

After the break we will move to one of the family homes to prepare it for sale. I don't look forward to another round of rehab but sometimes you just have to adult. At least that will be the last one. Our goal is to get it done as quickly as we are physically able. We want to make the most of our time right now while we still have each other and our health. Our friends who have buried spouses remind us often to play. Our grown grands still like to hangout with us and we are going to make the most of it.

Most of my gardening this year will be done at Amish farm. So thankful we have a good stock of home canned and other food items. Thank you Lord.

My heart hurts for everyone facing or dealing with the loss of a loved one. We are in the season of our lives for such events. I know we got this but dang it, knowing doesn’t make it any easier!

We set our clocks, before we went to bed, but still woke up late this morning. It was 7:30 on the dot when I woke up. That put me in a rush to get everything done, before the gang started arriving.

Judy, I wear ball caps a lot. If I have to be somewhere early in the morning, and I don't have a chance to shower and wash my hair, I put it in a ponytail and stick a cap on my head. I have ball caps in an assortment of colors just for that purpose.

We don't really have any special plans for this week, but things can change. Hopefully, it will warm up again, and I can get out and put fertilizer around all my shrubs, roses, and flowers. Hostas are all up, roses are budding, and the azaleas are beginning to show signs of budding. I have a section in my yard that has wood violets for ground cover. They are in full bloom right now. All of the purple ones have died off, and white ones are all that remains. Still beautiful, though. Cary is even getting itchy fingers to buy tomato plants, even though, he doesn't want a garden this year, LOL. Go figure!

We'll be having carry-out pizzas from the country store/restaurant for supper, tonight. Always try to have that on the Sundays we have home fellowship.

Yes, it was cold out this morning, but warmed up nicely.

Started the day by watching my grandson play in the Church bell choir. (3rd grader),
he did a fine job. Not my normal church, so way too many old friends that I haven't seen in years.
Not enough time to catch up.

We went to Burger King afterwards as my grandson wanted their chicken sandwich.
Of course, my treat, free treats taste better.

Went to Walmart before going home. Girl Scouts selling cookies again.
I have fun with them. I'll ask if I can buy half a box, they say no. I then ask if they'll take
less than $6 a box, they say no, and laugh. My grand daughter, who is with them, says,
grandpa stop it, and laughs.

Finished the day with electrical work on a light pole.

It was a lazy day.

I stopped in Dollar Tree today to pick up some lentils to fill up a storage jar I have. Man, that store was empty! Probably 20% of normal inventory in foods (all kinds) and in health/beauty. They have redone this store to hold the higher priced items and there are a few aisles of those things.

Then I popped into Winn Dixie to get some sugar. Two 4lb bags, at $3.48 a bag, or about 50 cents a bag cheaper than Aldis was this week. It was a weekend deal. I remember getting it for $1.49 a bag not that long ago.

The dresser that is becoming the new TV stand arrived. They mismeasured and it was 6" longer than they told me. It took a hot minute or two to move things. The color matches the shelves a lot better than I thought. It is solid wood. The drawers are done with wood and dovetail joints. I'm really happy. I have a dislike for newer press board things. My Grandmother's shelves aren't "wood" but they are easily 30 years old and from before press board became such awful material.

I am debating switching out the half shelf near the door for a full cabinet. And then the go bags, coats, etc would all be tucked neatly inside of it with some baskets on the side for mail and keys. But that idea is still bouncing around some. Basically, a coat closet.

I'm going to have to move the TV. But I'm going to wait until I have it all figured out. But I definitely like that all the video stuff and DVDs being neatly out of sight.

And the pile for thrift has exploded. Except I can't load it in the van yet. This coming week is large load dump. And so I need the van for that. So it will just have to sit until we get that done.

I sent food home with my brother. More eggs and sour cream and yogurt.

I was definitely wiped out by the time the TV stand got in place and I got everything put away.

Anyways, busy and tiring day. Still working on the stamina.

We did go out to eat, but was disappointed they don't have the whole grain pancakes anymore. Not that I fool myself they are healthier, I just like them better. Their prices are through the roof.

We had a nice surprise this afternoon, my friend Morgan and her 7 beautiful babies came to visit. While I love them all I particularly like the 2 year old boy. He's just so darn cute. For the longest time he wouldn't say anything but just grin. By the time they were leaving he was jabbering away. When they got ready to leave I called them beautiful babies and the little stinker called me a beautiful baby. I was worn out by the time they left. But it was a wonderful end to a beautiful day. The sun was shinning and the temps in the low 60's, perfect for me.

Didn't bother to mess with the clocks last night. Slept in today. Ate breakfast after I got up around 4 PM, then did the clocks. Wife messed up and failed to take her night meds last night until she checked after wondering why she was still awake a almost 10 AM this morning. She took them then and slept until around 5:30 this afternoon. Fell asleep at my desk from around 6:30 to 8 PM. It is taking a while to get my strength back fro the severe food poisoning and related blood loss (stool and vomit) last weekend. I am going the right direction though.

My wife's youngest son and her daughter's younger son are supposed to help us move most of the remaining stuff via rental truck Friday. Then I have to do all of the cosmetic repairs, painting, and cleaning to get the house ready for sale. I will be so glad when this is over. What I wouldn't give to be in the shape I was in even five years ago before my health started to break.

Of course as soon as we are moved, I have to put in a garden in the back yard. I hate breaking new ground with a rear tine tiller.

It's going to be a beautiful day, today, although, a bit cooler than what I like if I'm working outside. Cary plans to get back to cutting up firewood from the pile, and I'm going to be working in the yard with fertilizer. I'll get plenty of exercise, today. Rain is coming back in Thursday night and all weekend, so I need to get the fertilizer out while I can. I might be able to dig some of our walking onions, too. I love fresh dug green onions in the spring. They really have taken off. Garlic is already knee high. Chives are about 8 inches high, and they do need thinning really bad.

Mississippi casts her votes tomorrow, so we'll be voting at some point during the day. Straight Republican. There are only around 150 voters in our precinct. Everyone knows everybody, but we still have to show an ID, driver's license, or you don't vote. We're a mixed community of some blacks but mostly white, and the majority of us vote Republican.

Going into the 70s here today!

I didn't find a pop-up drain that will fit, but my sink isn't draining at all, so that problem is getting addressed this morning.

Next is outside work (really puttering). I can't plant outside, yet, but I can dig around in the containers, add more soil, and do similar tasks. The chives and onions are three inches and taller. Later, I'll go looking for wild flowers along the trail when I take my walk.

Wishing everyone a great day!

Everything came together for us, today, as planned. We're both give out. The only thing I didn't do was to dig some green onions. I plan to have them with supper tomorrow night, so I'll dig them tomorrow morning after we get back from voting. I'll use the roots to start another row in the bed. I got the chives separated and some moved to other spots.

I don't have any English muffins, so I'm using white bread to make fried egg, ham, and cheese sandwiches tonight for supper. I might do some hashbrowns, but I'm not sure about that right now. Cary does have some chips if he wants those. I was going to make a peach cobbler, but I'm just too tired.

My friend Morgan brought us some fresh butter that she churned from fresh milk from her cow Molly, it was delicious. I even baked some Mrs. B's biscuits and they were good too, add to that fried eggs and smoked sausage. I have some pork ribbets in the oven for later. I just turned them and they are falling off the bone, yum yum

I've made a big dent in the kitchen, but I'm sleepy from eating. All the years I was working I would get sleepy after lunch and I'd look for somewhere to take a cat nap.

My knee started really hurting late yesterday afternoon, but the time the children left I could hardly walk. I put the brace from the VA on and even slept in it and my knee is a lot better today.

The last few nights I've had a hard time going to sleep, that damn time change has me messed up. DH woke me up at noon to make sure I was alright.

We just ate our sandwiches. Cary had the chips. I was just too tired to do much. We both cleaned up the kitchen, and I'm now back here reading for a bit. Cary is resting, too. He's laid back on the sofa watching a soccer game on tv. He hasn't complained with his leg hurting, he's just tired. He got a lot more firewood cut up. He still needs to split and stack it, but not today.

It's been a long time, since I had homemade fresh churned butter. It's the best. That's all we ate when I was growing up. Grandma had her milk cow and made fresh butter all the time. We had hot biscuits with that butter and homemade jelly every morning with eggs, bacon or sausage, and grits.

Since the stupid time change, we've been sleeping an hour and a half late. We're going to bed at our regular time according to the clock, but we're sleeping later. That messes my whole day up. I feel like I'm in a rush to get everything done.

I hope you get better sleep tonight.

Ugh. Had to order the pop-up drain plug and 4 replacement tires for the mower. Fingers crossed that all arrive. I truly hate having anything shipped these days, but these items weren't in stock locally, nor do the Harbor Freight tires fit. Dang!

The tires are coming from Texas and the drain plug is coming from Indiana, so at least neither should be going through NYC or LA.

If the tires don't make it, maybe I should just borrow some goats. LOL!

Added: this is "small projects" week. I did most of the deep cleaning during my last vacation. Now it's the small but important projects, like a new dryer vent and stuff like that. I've got a decent mower, but rubber on all of the tires has come off. I'm not buying a new mower at this point, so new wheels and a tune-up are in its future.

These are the annoying sorts of things that require I've had decent sleep, lots of coffee, and a ton of patience!

At least my bathroom sink is draining again. I'm really careful what I put down it, but the hair and soap clog was absolutely massive this time. Sometimes I think invisible people live here!

I've threatened Cary with getting some goats, since he hates to mow. There are plenty for sale around in the community. Seriously, if a 1800's lifestyle in coming, we'll need those goats or kill off all the grass. I'd rather have goats than mud.

I hear you! When we get to the point that code enforcement is no longer a problem, I'll be more willing to host someone's herd for a couple of days. I'm still in town, but down the road there are chickens and cows, so it's a transitional area.

You want sheep for mowing. Goats will eat everything BUT the grass, given a choice! Plus, sheep don't jump high fences and dance on car hoods!

Summerthyme

I love sheep! Always wanted one for a pet. I don't know of anyone around here that raise them, though. Yes, I would prefer sheep over goats any day. Cary says they eat the grass down to the dirt, but if they are moved around, I don't think that would be a problem.

You got that right, and with goats you need lots and lots of high fence. But we love our nine goats, they are like pets. Ours are more brush goats rather than eating grass, living in the country there is lots and lots of brush.

Hahahahaha!! Half a box! :)

I need to get out and find some GS cookies!! I love having a few Thin Mints in the freezer for July and August. I can't help buying over priced PB tagalongs and Thin Mints. I always tell the girls I was the "original girl scout".

My big prep for the week is making the Spring trash run to the landfill. I also need to inventory the cellar and pull some squash to cook this week.

@Peachy - I love your username! Had to go into work early today, so I haven't gotten much done at home. so much to do - so little time. I did manage to get 4 coats washed and 2 listed on Ebay. I need to do a little mending on one, and the other (I think) is too stained to do well. I might list it anyway just to try to get rid of it.

At least chives can be used as a tasty garnish.

Glad it's my week for small projects: the left brake light just burned out on my vehicle. Since it's truly a pain to replace it, the turn signals and back-up lights that are in the same housing will be getting changed, too (total of six bulbs, three on each side). That's not a huge surprise. According to my notes, I replaced them about 9 years ago.

That's another project that requires me to be well-rested and have at least one cup of coffee in me. It's not hard, but there are plastic tabs and tiny bolts that need to be removed and kept track of. I have to be gentle so that nothing cracks or bends. This is why the mechanics get the big bucks: it's time consuming. Again, more poor design done cheaply. People aren't expected to keep cars 20+ years. Screw them! I'm going to attempt to keep this car going for awhile.

I had the bright idea as few years ago to plant a short row of chive seeds in a large flower bed.
Little did I imagine then how they would reseed everywhere!
I had the same thing happen with Lemon Balm on our farm! It was everywhere! Also, comfrey... which behaved for almost 15 years, and then started sprouting in the strawberries, the blueberries, , the barnyard... good thing the horses snd cows ate it like candy!

First time since surgery that I ended the work day because I actually didn't have any thing else to do. And not because my eyes were hurting and a headache pounding. And I love it.

My back brain is working out the living room problem. I think I've just about got it figured. A bit of simple rearranging may handle 3/4s or more of it. And get the gobags and a few other things out of sight.

Had a serious talk with relatives about buying the house. For multiple reasons, I would prefer it to be a private mortgage. But if I have to, I'll save up for a deposit and bank mortgage. I just need to know the goalposts.

Brother was here this past weekend. He spotted a problem with the garage fascia. I wish he had just told me. But he didn't. So now family is wanting to fix it. Fingers crossed, I found some Hardie board siding on FB that would be more than enough to fix the problem. So I popped that to one family member who has leverage, to hopefully get Brother to go pick it up since he started this circus. And I'll throw in the money. That will contain the rest of the ruckus to just a day of some hands coming to help put it up. And maybe get a layer of paint on it if that is needed.

I Iove my family. I really do. But they get "helpful" about the most trivial things. I'd rather have hands to help with fixing the washout. But it is what it is. I just try to keep the disturbance as low key as possible.

Anyways, time to call it quits. Night night.

We worked outside for the day and a beautiful one at that! I canned rutabagas and turnips and froze 4 quarts of collards. I continue on working on a catsup recipe. Didn't make any today but I am getting close to the right flavor and texture. My concern with condiments is what is being done to our foods. And it is one of the things that tethers me to the grocery store! I opened a jar of mandarin oranges that I canned and they were delicious. I will do that again! Greenhouse is stuffed. Older members of our church requested a total of 35 more tomato plants. Rearranged today to make room for those! Filled the pots but haven't seeded them yet. Everything has geminated well except those pesky peppers but they ARE starting to peak thru.
The bulbs that I grumbled about planting last year have been quite the display this year! Every ache and pain was worth it!
I added 300 more bulbs this spring so hopefully it will just increase in beauty.
Tomorrow Hubs has PET. We are hopefully but a little anxious.

I grow my chives in a giant planter box to keep them from spreading. They do get too thick and become spindly if I don't thin them out every couple of years. I thinned and moved some, yesterday, to another planter box. I use them in all kinds of potato dishes and in cheese omelets and scrambled eggs. Sometimes, just for a garnish. I always cut some and freeze them for winter use, but I like them best fresh cut and chopped.

We just got back from voting. Where we vote is just down at the country store, so it didn't take long. We were the only ones there at the time. There was a bad wreck that had just happened almost in front of the store as we were pulling in. The ambulance and police were just arriving as we were getting out of the car. We'll find out more as the day progresses.

Mom called just as we got back home letting me know her BP was 193/102! I'm so worried about her, but she has an appt. with her PCP this afternoon. The med he has her on just isn't working, and he's changed it twice, already. I want her to see a specialist, but she has to be referred, and I don't know if he will do that. Keeps the money in his pocket kinda thing, ya know. I don't really care for or trust her PCP.

Nothing special going on the rest of the day. Cary will be working on the wood pile, and I'll be in the kitchen cooking and getting everything prepared ahead of time for supper, tonight. I still have laundry to do, and also, it's time to pay the second half of the month's bills. Takes me forever to do it, but I'll get it done.

A few decades ago a doctor put me in bifocals. It did not go well. A few weeks ago, I decided to risk a pair of lineless transistion lenses from Zenni with the clear Blokz. They arrived today. I think I'm already in love with them. I can see clearly no whether it is close or far, so my glasses are sitting where they are supposed to sit on my nose. And I have no way to explain how much the Blokz helps things. It's an almost immediate relief from something that makes my eyes and head hurt. The only problem was telling which of the two pairs was which because I also ordered a regular pair with the clear Blokz. I forgot and ordered identical frames.

Yeah for a good thing.

Let a client go yesterday. Great people but costing me lots of time with no pay to show for it. Prayed all night about it the night before. It was the first thing I did in the morning and it made my day.

Down to all of the little caulking and touching up paint. Renters had let kids color with crayons on walls and put stickers everywhere. Goo gone took stickers off doors and fabulosa took crayons off white bathroom liner wall. I did cheat with a scrub brush attached to a drill.

Need to load a dishwasher they tossed out the back door. Ready to be done with heavy stuff. Thanked God when I found 2 surprise gallons of indoor paint in corner of my pantry last night. Paint, like everything else, is crazy expensive.

Washed throws that used to cover chair and put them in big Ziplocs for storage. Have almost tamed linens. Filled the drawers of dresser in spare bedroom.

Found some neat old jars and filled couple of them with shells and mementos from family vacation.

Really trying to find space for things that matter and removing things that just take space without serving a real purpose.

Judy I want to thank you for mentioning Vitacost. I have items I can't get locally and Sprouts or Natural Grocers are several hours away. And food items I used to get from a small local coop years ago. No idea where I would find those. Frontier vegetable powder for example I think they might carry.

@patriotgal -- They must've been the renters from hell! Adults don't let children color on the walls. What a nightmare!

Busy morning. I spent the first portion chasing parts for the patio door and brake, back-up, and turn signal lights for my car. I thought I had lights in stock already, but I have a dim memory of giving some of them away to an unemployed gal who needed to get her car running for interviews. I ended up having to go to three auto stores, but they were within the same general area. I had to go to two hardware stores, also in the same area, to get all of the parts.

Once again I'm reminded about keeping basics in stock. It was easy to imagine not finding what I needed, although in my defense, I was going to replace the entire patio door this summer, but that's just not in the budget, so I'm replacing the big metal door handle, screen and plastic door handle, and part of the track. Even that is pricey but worth doing: it's a security issue.

Lunch is heating: homemade beef noodle soup and two English muffin "mini pizzas" (homemade). I sliced up the last hot dog into thin pieces for the meat. It also has leftover mushrooms and the last two slices of cheese, plus the very last of the tomato sauce, all-in-all a creative use of odds and ends, if I do say so myself. :geek:

Wishing everyone a great day!
