Happy Resurrection Day! The plan was to do nothing today but I have a really hard time doing nothing...especially when I am sitting in a house that needs to be emptied.

Ordering DH a backup cpap mask just in case. Killing red wasps that keep coming in over the back door. Stuffed a washcloth in the spot to slow them down. I am allergic to them and have already vacuumed up a couple on the floor.

I will retrieve our pillows today. We aren't that far away from our place. There are new pillows on bed here but we are used to our heavy foam ones. First trip I make to town all the current clothes in closet will go to salvation army and women's shelter. I will keep some of the soaps, etc. After this, our only place to clean up and clean out will be MIL'S home. Can't sell it while she is in nursing home.

Will probably make a list of repairs today. A patio door was somehow shattered in past. Thank God for DH'S construction background. The rental rehab was a frightening reminder of the high cost of fixing anything. Even the tiniest plumbing parts started at $50.

DH went through his stash of mechanical preps and we will make a trip to town tomorrow for spark plugs and oil. I don't want to be out after Wednesday this week due to upcoming eclipse.

Frozen lasagna and fresh salads will be our main meal today. Gotta bring my instapot over too. Last night I made an apple pie and topped it with a pecan and brown sugar topping. Love the topping but used an Amish apple mix. They dice the apples too fine for my taste. My mom and I used to buy a couple bushels of apples every year and spend a weekend freezing apple pies. Miss her and those days.

I got moving with energy and a clear brain. Got some laundry going. Prepping backup meals for son. I looked at the restaurant and there is a meal that should be safe for him but, just in case, I have an extra. Or two.

Son started the day with the shakes. And then he just didn't let go of the swimming and frustration. I was/am worried that he'll overall but he seems to be okay right now. I have his emergency meds packed as well. And the bedroom for the van if he needs it. I'm praying for a relatively calm and peaceful day.

We head out in a little while. I hope everyone has a good day.

Thanks for the proper spelling of Resurrection, my spelling is only getting worse.

Even though I'm not going to a church building today, I am reflecting on Jesus and his sacrifice for us.
Judy,
I've found some of the best places to pray are in the garden or our deck. My DH hasn't been able to attend church in a few years, so we just do Bible study and worship at home.

I've often said that "church" began in homes, and "church" will end in homes. We came out of organized religion years ago. Now, we get together with a group of like-minded believers for bible study and worship in our home every other Sunday. Not only are we all like-minded in biblical beliefs, but also, in being very conservative and prepper oriented.

Today has been mostly a quiet, reflective day. I fixed salad, ham, and mashed potatoes for the Sunday meal. I'm heading out in a bit for a short bike ride and the Sunday drive. There's a fair amount of retail construction going on around the area.

We made it and are now back home. Son got through one hour, with a few runs to the bathroom to hide and calm. But one brother pointed out that it had been almost 8 years since we had done this. So with everything that's gone on in that time, he did real good.

Son amused me. He dug through his bag looking for some unknown thing, which he didn't find. He did have one of his easter eggs, and a few chocolate pretzels, before he settled on his regular pretzels. And he ate the veggies, not the meat, from his meal. That just had me laughing.

And he was trying very hard to communicate. That was gold.

Got the rest of the potatoes planted, planted some of my new medicinal herbs. Dh moved one our prefab raised gardens to a new place so my herbs can be together. Peas, turnips and cabbage are all doing well. Gave my sister a big bag of overgrown lettuce and chard for her chickens. I got chocolate chip cookies. Lol. My blackberry bushes are doing well.
The young lady I have spoken to about being my helper is 13 now so next month we'll have a conversation with her mom about cleaning house for/with me. Dusting, vacuuming and helping me in the kitchen.
Storms tomorrow, on Wednesday a possible freeze, I'm going to risk it and plant beans on Friday.
Have a good week and prayers for us all.

Hope all had a good Easter. We had a quiet morning, then it was out to the garden. Still tearing apart the old raised planters and moving dirt into the new. Replaced some asparagus last week...and some were already poking above ground. Trying artichoke this year. Starts are a couple inches tall, so maybe something will come of them. Tomatoes look to be a couple weeks away from starting to harvest. Going over tomorrow to pick up a truckload of manure to mix in with some of the dirt in the new beds. And spent a bit of time scrubbing the blasted pollen off of the solar panels.
Coyotes seem to have moved on - rabbits and doves are making a comeback.

It's cloudy, but another 80 degree day. Rain could move in as early as this afternoon. Rain and severe storms likely, tomorrow. I plan to finish up on things I still need to do outside, today. Today is the only day this week that we'll be home all day.

I have an appointment with my Mac Deg doctor, tomorrow. Since coming off the medication she had me on, I can tell my vision has changed for the worse just a bit. I'll probably need to go back on it for another month. I had rather take the pill than to have the eye injections.

Wednesday, Cary has an appointment at the Cardiac Clinic for an ultrasound on his carotid arteries.

Thursday is shopping day.

Friday, Cary has an appointment at the Imaging Center for a brain MRI.

We're praying that none of his test will show any signs of a stroke. Would you all please help us pray, also?

In an effort to cut back on my spending I'm cutting back on using coconut cream powder in every cut of coffee. While its delicious I think one cup a day with it in it will suffice for the daily health benefits of coconut . so I'm not going to buy a bag of it every month, it cost almost $20 and at the rate I've been using it one bag won't last a month. While I do save money on subscribe and save on amazon I'm going to limit the amount I spend on it every month, it can add up quickly.

Dh had an egg mcmuffin today with left over Easter ham. I didn't buy a large ham, but the rest is going in the freeze.

I've got my wm grocery list going but I just don't want to spend the money. I usually buy one or two cans of what I use regularly every month, which I will continue to do.

DH is going to fry fish for supper, I think I'll take a can of sliced potatoes and make home fries to go with it. I need to soak some dehydrated onions to go in the potatoes.

I'm making some strides in the kitchen, since DH is frying fish I need to make sure he has room for it. I did let it get out of hand again, just can't seem to get on top of it. I've never been great at it anyway, I worked full time for 40+ years and for four years I had a second part time job at night and on weekends. Habits around that were hard to make.

I got what I needed to do outside done. Cary has been splitting firewood all afternoon. He's got about half of that huge pile from the tree cut, split, and stacked. The other half will be spread out to do all summer as he has time. Just a little from time to time will eventually get it done. I am concerned about snakes in the pile this summer, though. Copperheads are a big problem here.

We're both tired. I'm just going to make a quick skillet meal, tonight, along with garlic buttered toast. Cajun Dirty Rice.

Judy, I wash the dishes and clean up my kitchen after every meal. Keeps me from having a big pile to do at one time. Sometimes, I fix a sink of dishwater and wash up the dishes as I use them while cooking, too.

I spent a little time this am reading about what they ate in England during WW2 rationing. I think the old cookbooks will be most helpful. I had a pre1900 cookbook I picked up at a yard sale. It had recipes and home remedy clippings from newspapers too. I finally got rid of it because the pages crumbled as you turned them.
Sauteed turkey cutlets w/ itali an seasoning,
Warm but strong spring winds continue. Did have a brief shower. sweet potatoes and boiled cabbage wedges for our supper tonight.

Lol, I know how to do it but doing it just doesn't seem to be in my DNA.

Cary's mom, being German, had a cookbook from WW1 Germany. I wish I had kept it, once she passed, but I didn't. I couldn't read it, and that's why I didn't keep it, but Cary could have translated it for me. It would be amazing to know the recipes they ate back then.

OK, so this gal is an Aussie, but she does some great videos about cooking 1950s meals. I'm sure you could find something similar for Germany. I've had fun watching Sage . . . she was in nursing school when she made this one, I think. She has since graduated.

@SB - praying for you and Cary

We are back to working on emptying farm house after stopping to deal with rental rehab nightmare. My goal today was to empty the roll top desk. I think every key we ever had to anything in the last 40 years was in that desk. I passed all of them to DH to figure out, lol. Found lots of coloring books and crayons for grands and greats. Cleaned up some batteries that leaked. Yuck. It is finally done. Gonna take a room at a time now.

New family of gray squirrels in outbuilding. There isn't anything in there they can hurt. I have never known gray squirrels to be friendly but this young bunch is. Can't scare them or their mama. When we get the more important stuff done we will get that building sealed up. Right now they just play in the rafters. Mama hasn't taken them outside the building yet. Too bad they are too small to put in skillet.

Well, son was wiped today. He ended up sleeping most of the afternoon. And he may have kept sleeping into the night if I hadn't woken him up. But I know better. So he's now happily playing with his Etch-a-Sketch again. And stir-fry is heating for dinner.

I'm wiped in a different way. But it was a calm day for work. And hopefully we can continue to have calm days. There is more work, so half days aren't likely. But calmer days are good.

Spring has definitely arrived. Its a rainy morning and as I look out my office window its all green in the woods, can't see through the trees like I can in the winter. I had the opportunity when I was first moving here to have timber cut. But I decided not too because I'm much rather see the trees than feel like I was living in a war zone. I've never regretted it.

Looks like all my green onions are bolting, what ever that means.

It was 80 degrees by my bed last night and only down to 79 when I woke up this morning. We were actually sweating in the house yesterday. Its just too early to turn the ac on yet. And it was actually cooler outside. But outside are all kinds of flying insects and they think I'm their lunch. My ex use to make me so made, they never bothered him and he had no sympathy for me about it. That man can still get on the last half of my last nerve.

We got 18 eggs yesterday, the pullets are laying several a day in addition the the other chickens. I'd rather have too many eggs than none.
