I adore chocolate and always have! I love the “better” chocolate like Godiva and Ghirardelli but haven’t been anywhere to get it since hearing about the rising prices. Aldi has some good chocolate bars too but I can’t remember the brand names. I ordered the Special Dark Hershey bars from Amazon thinking if I couldn’t get any until the next time we do a Costco or Sam’s run, it would be better than nothing. If I could have as much as I wanted it my blood sugar would be through the roof and it would get expensive real fast around here as I have one daughter, one grandson and my little granddaughter that love chocolate as much as I do. I was watching granddaughter eating some chocolate one day and I had to smile as she was in her own little world, she put a piece in her mouth and her eyes closed and she sighed. I felt that!

@hd5574 I might be just a teeny tiny bit jealous of your chocolate stash! Yum!

Home depot and Lowes no longer stock appliances. They are ordered in. Clerks were a bit rude. Old family owned appliance store is expensive. American Freight went out of business couple days ago. Beginning to wonder why I still live in Arkansas. Finally remembered a store owned by one of DH's high school buddies. Went to Brand Source. Great service by a friendly lady. Prices same or better than the other stores. Delivery guy was in store and was a customer I recognized from retail.

Delivery guy was going to be a few minutes behind us. Normally wouldn't use Delivery but trying to save our backs. Got stuck in a 3 mile line of traffic stopped because a truck was on fire. Finally got home. Washer is hooked up. Cheap hotpoint that will go with the house. Grand popped in and is helping DH get the range switched from lp to propane. ($100 if store changed them.)

What a day. Thankfully I have a big round of leftovers in fridge from yesterday. Plenty to feed grand and us. Have a good evening all.

Stopped by Winn Dixie today after going to the gym (they are practically next door to each other) to get Powerade that was on sale for $1 a bottle and for orange juice for the sick one. I got lucky and ran into some marked down ground chuck and got three small packages. Those are headed for the freezer. Also got two bags of Hershey's easter kisses at half price. I have planned a long time for the chocolate shortage and will not be caught empty handed!!!

My doctor's appointment ran late so I didn't get out until around 4:30. I'd planned to go to Aldi and Fareway after but ended up just going to Fareway. At least that will be one less stop when I (hopefully) get to shop next week.

I really hate to shop PERIOD. The hassles with finding stuff, missing stuff, crabby people, incompetent or no clerks and high prices make it a real nightmare. Then there is the parking lot with is a nightmare all by itself. So, the only way I cope is to shop only once a month which the weather screwed up in March. It looks like the 10th is the first possible day for me to go to town again. That will be a big shopping day with Aldi, Walmart, Dollar Tree and HyVee. I have long lists for Aldi and Walmart.

I'm working tomorrow a.m. in the church kitchen serving a funeral dinner. Family said to expect between 80 and 100. I'm not sure how much help we'll have because one of the committee will be at work and another is just had major surgery. Whatever, we'll cope.

DH and grand finally got stove hooked up. Gonna surprise grand with one of great grandma's strawberry cakes when he comes back today. He loves them and none of us gals has picked up the slack yet in making them. MIL'S dementia makes it impossible for her to do now. She made one every time we all got together.

The only thing I like about the washer is the price. It's a cheap hotpoint but will do the job while we clean and repair. I have a nice washer in little place that will be our new small home. It feels weird to be in farmhouse again but the time in smaller space and the things that have happened have given us a new perspective. DH is finding it far easier to let go of stuff.

Rental goes up for sale in a couple of days. I would love to see farmhouse on market in 90 days but we will see. DH and grand are going fishing next week. They need to do so while they can. Later might be too late for one of them. You never know.

Happy with preps for weekend and beyond. Still in that nesting phase that hit a few days ago. Have a big, for me, decision to make. Daddy's boots and Stetson would be a perfect fit for grand who hangs out with us all the time. Not sure I am ready to part with them and not sure one of kids might want them. Guess I need to be asking.

Another day in Big Town, today. MRI after lunch. Hopefully and prayerfully, there will be no signs of a stroke. Cary sees his PCP April 17th, and he will determine where we go from here if it wasn't a stroke. He has an appointment in August to see his neurologist. If PCP feels that Cary had another seizure, he will try to get the neurologist appt. moved up sooner, so if there needs to be a change in his seizure med, he can go ahead and get that done sooner rather than later.

As you all know, if it is determined to be a seizure, Cary won't be able to drive for 6 months. State law. That means that I will have to take over all driving. With my eyesight the way it is, that's going to be a big challenge. He's continuing to drive for the time being, since no diagnosis has been made, yet.

Nothing else planned for today, or in Big Town. Tomorrow is a big cleaning day for me, plus we have home fellowship here, Sunday morning.

We'll get sort of a break next week with only one doctor's appointment. Another one for Cary just for bloodwork checking for Paget's Disease of which we both think will be a waste of time.

More adventures in the world of stubborn Kyrsyan today.

Doctor visit #1. She is worried because my Digoxin level is low. Except I don't take digoxin. And the CHF dx was removed from my chart by the cardio because he couldn't find anything to support it. The only real effect it had was that she was concerned about lowering the one med until she realized that I had been on full dose when they took the bloodwork so it likely wasn't going to change anything. Apparently my natural levels are really low. I'm okay with that.

Then we moved on to making sure that her people understood that having diabetes does not mean that medication is mandatory. I will be taking the lowest dose of Jardiance to help stabilize things while my body continues healing. She is also hoping that it will help with the edema. (Lowering med #1 is already helping with that.) She wants me to stay on it permanently. I'm willing to stay on it for 6 months and then see if the body has stabilized enough to come off of it.

Then we moved on to statins. I pointed out to her that my only high readings have been while my body has been under extreme stress. She agreed. So argument is put off until next visit in 3 month. If the readings are better by then, no statin. Because everything else looks really good.

Doctor visit #2. Ugh. A lady's physical exam every 3 months. Just ugh. And then the follow up which made it clear that none of them have read my charts. "Do you want to talk to a therapist for stress so you can lose weight?" No, there isn't a talk therapist that can handle my stress issues. (If you are a forever parent, you understand exactly what I'm talking about.) "Do you want to go to the weight loss clinic? They can help you with diet or surgery." Hard no. I politely explained that I am a diet controlled diabetic so my diet isn't the issue. And that dieticians have tried before only to find out that I don't eat the typical diet. Which she then suggested surgery. That's a hard no. I know five people who have had the diet surgeries and none of them had it any easier after. I'm not playing that game.

The reason for pushing weight loss, according to nurse, is that fat tissue has estrogen and so I will continue to have estrogen which might lead to cancer. I just can't explain how much that fear factor push pisses me off. On the flip side, fat tissue has estrogen, so the menopause hormone issues due to the removal of my ovaries and uterus are likely to be less while my body finishes adapting. Not that they wanted to hear that. What they were trying to make me hear was "You are fat, so despite there being a less than 1% chance of your cancer returning, we want you to be afraid that your cancer will return." But I will take the free genetic testing to see if I am predisposed to any other cancers.

Anyways, I got to hear what I wanted to hear which was that I can start walking again and everything looks fully healed.

Off to work now.

Just got back from church. Started at 9:00 and got home at 2:15. Long time on my feet for an old lady, but it was worthwhile to honor the lovely lady that passed. Just got my coat off and sat down when I remembered to check messages and now I'm back up getting my coat and heading out to pick up RX. My chocolate cake was all eaten which is good as I don't need to be eating such high calorie low food value foods! I brought home a couple ham sandwiches and some pasta salad, so supper is taken care of for this evening. Someone brought a strawberry cake with strawberries in the frosting which was REALLY good. I had a piece for lunch. Of course, cutting and plating the cake allowed a few (or more than a few) finger licks to taste everything.

Be very careful about letting them put you on statins, they have been giving them out like candy for years. It has finally come out that statins are uncecessary for most of why they were prescribed.

I had chest pains one time and they tried to give me statins, the chest pain was from stress.
I'm not likely to take them. No one in my family has had a good response to them. And I'm 99% sure that my LDL levels will drop in line now that I'm back on normal levels of Vit C and Lysine, and getting my walks back in. They always have before. If they don't, there are herbals I will try first. As frustrating as she sometimes finds it, this doc gets that I'm going to go for the more natural solutions before I go for the prescription ones.

Have you tried intermittent fasting...have cousin in AZ ... she has lost 30 or so pounds...a slow weight loss..... she eats all her food for day in an eight hour period and eats nothing one day week.. that might not work for you...she is in her 70s...and was pre diabetic...and is no longer pre diabetic... If you can't skip a day maybe limiting the hours when you eat would help

I do that already. Somewhat. There is a protein drink on my nightstand in case of issues in the night. If I try to ignore them, my liver will do a glucose dump that is an unpleasant surprise in the morning. Otherwise, right now, everything is eaten during a 12 hour period during the day.

But honestly, walking again should kick in most of what I need. The body is absolutely craving movement. Nothing crazy, just not being in a chair most of the day. And it's spring garden time.

We're back from getting the MRI. It will probably be Monday, before we get the results. One of my first cousins owns a business in Big Town, and it's close to the Imaging Center, so we stopped in there to chat with him a while, before coming home. Cary had to make a stop for donuts at his favorite donut shop, too.

Both are tired from all the running around all week. I think we'll just have sandwiches and chips for supper, tonight.

Well, that was fast! Cary just got a call from his PCP letting him know that he did have a small stroke, MRI showed a very small brain bleed in the location that affects speech. That's why he was having trouble getting words to come out of his mouth. Doctor stressed the importance of Cary going immediately to the ER if he has any signs of weakness or slurred speech in the future. Cary is already taking a statin drug and will continue to do so. We also have Summerthyme's cayenne tincture to begin using on a daily basis. Thank You, Summerthyme!

Nice weather today, very cool this morning but very warm by mid day. Its 82 here at my desk.

I got a little bit done today, but need to do more.

DH repaired a come a long that he thought was broken and no telling what else he's been out there doing.

He made some jello a couple of days ago with chopped up apple in it, very tasty. Trying to get back on my diet, my clothes are getting too tight and even if I was a mind to do it, which I'm not, to buy bigger clothes. When the largest size gets too tight its time to cut back.

Work done. Brain has decided to just let go all the nonsense from the doctors visits. Son is absolutely wiped. He didn't quite believe me that he was going to stay with friend. But he was thrilled when he got there. But he was also wiped when we got home, and more than ready for a nap apparently. He's been napping most of the afternoon, after he got some much wanted deep pressure hugs.

I already got a lot of walking in today. So I think I'm going to go chill for a bit before I start tackling house stuff. So much to do.

My grandmother made strawberry cakes too. I have her recipe.

Made a skillet meal loosely adapted from a recipe. We love anything with Mexican seasonings.
Also added green Chile and salsa Verde. My hatch green chiles that were roasted and frozen are almost gone. Have enough for one more meal of Chile rellenos and that will be it until next harvest. Will have to rely on jarred and canned.

Here the grocery stores roast them in the fall. The smell is divine. I used to roast small quantities.
Now I just buy them roasted and freeze some whole and some chopped. They sell all kinds of green Chile foods in fall including wine which I've never tried. But I do get a few corn and flour tortillas with green Chile in them.

I have learned that Lion's Mane mushrooms are a natural nootropic ...they can help the brain regrow brain cells after a stroke...have seen it work in a friend who had a stroke..on the right side of the face.. droopy eye and mouth...Difficult speech...
They were 100% back to normal within 30 days with no other treatment ...they did not go to a doctor....they used about 2400mg per day..about 600mg 4 times... spaced out over 24hours
Not recommending this just have seen work.... for what it is worth
I got a bottle to put back in my herbs after seeing it work....

I use Lion's Mane when I have shingles. But I only use it for a limited time. Helps!
Interesting...I didn't know that..writing that in my book ...thanks...
I had shingles and found that colloidal silver spray is magic with shingles..mine were on my nose forehead and even in my eye...and cs is safe even in the eye...whenever they itched, burned or stung..I grabbed the cs and sprayed them.. had instant relief... but it dried up the blisters and it stopped it from spreading..
They started on a Friday night after the doctor's office closed...I couldn't get into the doctor's office until Tuesday at 8 am....she didn't believe me...that it started on Friday night..told me the blisters were two weeks old because they were so dried up.... told DH he should have brought me sooner....she was really rough on him...
But they called and got me into the eye doctor the next day...he thought the cs had helped my eye and totally approved.. of my using it.

My cousin's husband has a watch repair man...who developed a horrible case of shingles...he had been to the doctor and was on several rx meds....he was coming to work but could barely concentrate...my cousin called and asked me what I had used..i told her cs....her husband went out and got cs for him... asap...he was out of pain as soon as he started spraying it..
..he was over it in five days..her husband was amazed at how quickly it helped him..

I woke up this morning with a path forward on the garden bed stuff. And as annoying as it has been for things to be so slow, grateful because if I had been moving at the speed I wanted to I would have dead veggie seedlings this morning.

Busy day planned. We'll see how much of it gets done. But some of it has to wait for the temps to increase some.

Grand showed up yesterday while I was cooking breakfast. Threw a lot more bacon in the skillet, lol. He helped DH id the issues with the 2 farm trucks. As soon as they are fixed, one of them will be sold. Maintenance is too expensive.

New washer is defective and no repair or replacement until next week. The one time I hate living here is when it comes to stuff like this. Mountain Home and West Plains are nearest towns and often do not have what you need when you need it.

Took a nap in middle of afternoon...something I rarely do. Had windows open, birds were talking, hawks were doing their spring screeching. DH was working in his shop and I got a pleasant short time alone.

Grand returned in afternoon with one of the greats. They caught some fish in the pond. It's been a long time since we experienced a giggling youngster cleaning a fish for the first time. So much fun! The kids ate supper with us. I had a roast in the crockpot all day. Great asked what roast was. I showed her. She looked at her uncle's plate and decided it was worth a try. The strawberry cake was a hit but I wasn't happy with runny icing. May find my own icing recipe next time. Verified my stash of cake and icing ingredients.

Fish is in the freezer. If the world continues we will have a father's day fish fry. Hoping the grand doesn’t break his pond fishing record. DH and I once cleaned over 100 fish he and a friend caught in one day when the perch were biting. We ended up dragging out DH's construction lighting to finish the job.

Things are coming along here. We went to town several days this week. Hubby had a check up Monday. He has started one of the shots for diabetics that helps with weight loss. Loosing weight should help his blood pressure, diabetes, and back issues. Several years ago a dr put him on statins. He gained 60 pounds in about 4 months. He was starving all the time. The dr said it was because he quit smoking. But I finally found where the drug he was taking could cause extreme hunger in rare cases. He stopped the statins, but the weight is still with him. By the time he quit the statins he had gained over 80 pounds. Hubby also changed drs. Hopefully, he will loose enough to help him feel better.

The eclipse is Monday. We don't plan to go anywhere until after it's all over. We have seen $8 a gallon milk at one store in Russellville. But I heard they dropped the price back to normal after it was posted on FB and they recieved a lot of backlash. But my best friend saw the $8 price and texted me asking if that was the normal price, so I know it was real. Another friend had her 2 full gas cans stolen out of her truck at our Harps store. The store was very busy and it's hard to believe someone would be that bold. But here we are. The store is looking to see if it's on their camera. They have caught thief's before from their security cameras.

I have been working on farm things I need to get done. I moved the chickens from the brooder to the grow out pen. The turkeys are still doing good. They will stay in the big tank I use for a brooder for a few more weeks. I still have to get them a pen built.

All the county offices, dr offices, schools, and factories are closed for the eclipse. Most restaurants are open, even the ones that are usually closed on Mondays. We will have over 3 minutes of darkness here on the farm. We will watch it here. Russellville is having lots of activities but no way do I want to go into the crowds. Both our kids and their families are staying home too. I am relying on Facebook and the local radio station to keep me up to date on the local happenings, if there are any.

Stay safe everyone.

I have decided to not stress Monday. I don't have to be or go anywhere. If there is an emergency, I will deal with it. But otherwise we are home with everything we need.

If internet is crashed due to the load, I'll work on garden and house stuff.

If people get stupid, I'll deal with it as it comes.

That's really all I can do.

I've got a lot of cleaning to do, today. I haven't touched the laundry or the house all week. House is a mess and laundry is piled up. Thank God, we don't have anywhere to be, until Wednesday. No way are we going anywhere, Monday. The eclipse won't affect us much, but I want to stay home in case something major happens. We'll watch it on tv. I'm more concerned about what's happening in Israel than I am about the eclipse, though.

I know and understand that most of you don't like statin drugs. Because of heredity, Cary is a very high risk for strokes. Every male (Dad, Grandfather, uncles, and one female first cousin) have died from strokes. Cary takes the smallest dosage possible and has for years without any complications or side effects of any kind. Now that he has had a stroke, there is no way he wants to go off of it. I don't blame him, either. He has added cayenne tincture to his regime once a day for added protection.

Statin drugs might not be for everyone, but it's a drug that we are willing to take given the risk of a major stroke.

SB, everyone is different and makes different decisions. Cary has his reasons and those are his. No judgements on that at all. I am glad that they work for him and have no side effects. One of my friends takes them as well.

Lawn mowed. And sand filter emptied. Friend stacked the bags of new sand so I can scoop them into the filter without lifting much. I'll work on that today between other projects.

That ended up being interesting. Friend had forgotten what I told him about using the old sand. So he hauled the full filter out front to dump wherever I wanted - in the garden. Oops. The old sand is currently in a large IKEAbag waiting until we get the steps set up and can determine which weights I will be using with it.

Movement feels so good. But I think one of my kneecaps has slid out of place again. It's not going to be fun when it pops back into place. And caffeine gives so much more energy now that it's not counterbalancing the fatigue effect from the higher dose of heart med. As much as I hate to admit it, it's likely time to start tapering off of it.

Random thought... TEOWAKI is going to suck for caffeine addicts for at least 2 weeks after they run out of it. I don't like dealing with people in caffeine withdrawal now. I think it would be 100 times worse in that situation.

SB, we all have to decided what is best for us. I offer advice from my perspective. DH and I are blessed with good health, although we are human and do have issues from time to time.

The sun is shinning and the temp is brisk, but will get to the low 80's.

I'm starting to notice that some items I use to buy simply are either not around anymore or impossible to find or if you do find them the price is out of sight. I kinda stocked up on instant sweet potatoes that were around a dollar a package, now they are 7.15 for the same thing at walmart. I looked on amazon and they are in the 1.00 range. And actually the instant potatoes are cheaper in bulk on amazon. I think I'm going to order a few to freshen up my stash. We don't even eat them once a month, but I do serve them on at holiday meal.

Wonder of wonders, my electric bill came and its less than $130.00. I haven't seen that price in a long time. Looks like my being very conservative with heat is paying off. Besides the wood stove, DH uses a small heater at his computer and in the bedroom at night. He likes it to be 82, and I prefer no more than 70 to sleep. He likes to sleep out from under the covers and I like plenty of cover. This is why we sleep separately.

Based on the way we drink coffee, I have enough of those 51 oz canisters of Folgers to last 2 years. If push comes to shove, it can be weakened and rationed to extend further what I have stored. We also drink our coffee black, so no need to store any additives to go with it. We go through one of those canisters a month x 12. Add 12 more, and you have 24, 2 year's worth for us. I buy one canister a month to replace the canister I used. Date and rotate. I have several extra canisters just to make sure.

One load of laundry done. Now, off to clean the kitchen, then more laundry.
