Friend called. They got a written notice from the county DA that their son needed to get treated for his "issues" or they needed to allow him to be put into a behavioral school. Except the school system has never told them why he is getting in trouble. All they get is "He did something wrong. He's getting this punishment." When they push they get told that nothing more can be said because it involves other students.

There's a deep, stinky pile of doo doo right there. But it would require a lawyer and a lot of money to fight the school system.

So they're pulling him to homeschool. Well, they're planning on using K12, which is online public education here, in certain areas. So I sent her to some resources. And told her I would be happy to help when she knew what path she was going to take.

And that lead into the discussion of how much time would lessons at home take vs school. And how he would be able to move and work out his energy between lessons. And eat healthier food. Because despite the whole healthy foods things, the teachers still give the kids candy in classrooms. And there is candy sold that they can get.

Her older son says that he is seeing other "problem kids" being pushed out as well. Basically kids that don't fit the mold and can't sit still for hours on end whose parents won't be pushed into medicating them.

I'm just shaking my head.

Gee...get kids on a sugar high then complain because they act up. Shows the intellect of the so-called educators.

And why the 7734 is the DA involved? Time to visit a good investigative reporter!

Or your friend is embarrassed to tell the whole story?

Friend doesn't know why or how the DA got involved beyond he was contacted by the school. No one will tell them what the incidents are. Just that there are behavioral incidents. And this is a school district that pushed for them to medicate their son because he's so energetic. They did not like the very firm and clear no they got. Backed up with the knowledge that it illegal for schools to suggest medicating students. That is the sole area of physicians. School systems got smacked hard on that two decades ago.

Friend is not embarrassed. She can't get the whole story. Not even by requesting her child's school records. (Former IEP mom here. I know the tricks.) But her son is not special needs, so things that would support those parents are not available for her.

She has the information for a good attorney if she has to go that route. But fighting school systems is expensive. I know because I did it. Twice. Both times I won. But it only occurred because some pretty amazing attorneys did the work pro-bono.

It is also very, very exhausting because you can win an agreement, have everyone sign it, and then have the school decide to completely ignore it. And teachers will lie. When they think it will keep them safe or boost their career, they will lie.

And investigative reporters that will expose school system abuses... I'm going to laugh for a minute. That doesn't happen 99% of the time. And when it does, it's abuse of special needs students. And if you were to go review those cases, you'd find that for most, they got suspension with pay for a few months and moved to a different position. Or for a few who give the district really big black eyes, they get fired. But typically get another job doing the same thing in a neighboring district. And for a very tiny .00001% they might face a couple of charges. Maybe. But not anywhere near the level of charges that a normal civilian would.

I watched a group of parents, with witnesses and recordings, get told by the police that there was no evidence and no charges would be pressed. For sitting on kids, eating their food, locking them for hours at a time in dark solitary rooms, or forcing them to stand in cold showers for hours on end. And that was recent.

Sure is quiet in here today. Is everyone super busy or outside enjoying the cooler weather? I’m working inside today but have some windows open and I’m loving the cooler air coming in.

Along with the regular cleaning in the master bathroom this morning, I emptied the metal shelving unit off and moving it out in anticipation of starting the work (maybe by next weekend) of replacing the tub with a walk-in shower. The shower pan came in, tile has been picked out although not bought yet. I’ll be so glad to have that done, the thoughts of the mess involved stresses me out a bit and of course it will make getting a shower safer and easier for me.

I’ve been really busy this week, however yesterday and today, I’m moving so slow, needing to rest more and frankly I’m just pooped! I want/need to get my 3 mums repotted in some better dirt today but I’ll wait until the sun isn‘t beating down in the place I need to do it.

We’re still making good use of what we have on hand food wise, leftovers, rotating things out of the pantry and freezers, shopping less and stocking up on things when it’s a really decent deal.

On the other hand DH has stocked us up on a few things we didn’t need because he didn’t pay attention, LOL! I was moving frozen juice concentrates from one freezer to another the other day and wondered why we had so many cans of apple when DH had just bought “orange juice”. He just looked at the green lids on the cans and didn’t read the labels or look at the pics on the cans. I’m not a sweet juice drinker myself but he enjoys orange juice in the morning. Fortunately the grand kids love apple juice but we have plenty in boxes and bottles for them. I’m hoping he’ll pay more attention in the future as he’s also picked up dill pickle flavored chips when I asked for sour cream and onion, then the next time he bought wavy ranch flavor (also a green bag) but those were actually good.

I hope you all are enjoying your day.

Got my electric bill, over 200 dollars less than last month, praise the Lord. We got drizzles during the day but heavier rain over night, enough to fill some rain barrels, yesterday.

I accidentally installed windows 11, and I didn't like it, was able to get it back to Windows 10. And windows 10 took some getting use to, I had windows 7 before that and I was very comfortable with it.

After being gone from home every day this week, we're just resting, today. I did pull out all the meat I bought Monday from the freezer and vacuum sealed it all, then back in the freezer it went.

I used Summerthyme's Garlic Cheddar Chicken recipe on some boneless rib-eye pork chops for supper tonight. I've already got them made up and, in the fridge, to pop in the oven later tonight. I change up the spices when I'm doing pork chops, instead of chicken breasts. I use Bourbon Pork spice with the breadcrumbs.

Tomorrow is a big cleaning day. I haven't done much all week.

We actually got a little rain last night, too. It was enough to wash all the dust out of the air, but it wasn't enough to brag about. I am thankful for what we got, though.

Dh and I are not feeling well today, he’s got a bad headache and feels lousy. My back hurts all over and I keep throwing up and feel lousy too. I don’t know if either of us have fever. Dh is a good care giver and I take care of him too. Nothing is getting done. On the other hand we are still blessed.

Tired. Two friends unexpectedly appeared today. One took care of the lawn, while the second and I cleaned two garden beds. It's not complete but a lot got done.

All the peppers are pulled. I sent a large paper bag home with each of them. His sweet peppers only. Hers a mix. And I still have a big bag to process for me.

One of the next things on the tap, tap, tap brain list is a small storage shed to hold two 55 gallon drums. One for gasoline and one for kerosene. And shelves above for my small cans. Back brain is just not letting that go. Period.

I may have overdone it. I went and got the pile of plants out to the compost pile. Then I cleaned up the garden bed and pulled the cover mats. Then I dropped in the worm castings and organic fertilizer. Then I used the action hoe to loosen the top few inches of soil and mix in the additives. I'm beat.

Next step is to get the "throw away" ground cover down. And the, hopefully with help, next weekend Mark and cut for garlic. Then use the auger bit and get garlic planted.

When my body is not quite so ready to kick me, I'll get laundry started and work on the kitchen. And get to slicing peppers. I don't think I have the energy to can them this weekend but I can slice them and toss them in the freezer.

Oh, and my body was quite determined that it was getting its sleep last night. I remember waking up twice, thinking I needed to move. Then the next thing I knew, I was waking up again. Maybe too much sleep because it was hard to get moving this morning.

We are feeling much better today, thank goodness. Its a nice brisk day outside.

Our one chicken is getting a rooster buddy tomorrow. And DH is going to order 20 pullets from Tractor Supply. Hope that is a decent source.

Our two goat bucks are fighting so DH is keeping them separated. One he can catch but the other one is elusive.

I think we have a small propane tank or two that needs to be refilled, our gas cans are full. I'm not having to urge to stock more though. I replace a little bit and we get commodities to include boxed milk, powered milk, pasta, rice and some red beans. So I'm good in those areas. I've ordered a few dried things from amazon. One thing I did order was wagners pickle spice to use to nixtomize (sp) dried corn. I tried to explain it to DH but he didn't get it. I've got a few things on Amazon's subscribe and save each month, but that's pretty much it. The light went out over the stove, I had two so now I need to get another. one is none and two is one.

DH fills the truck when it gets to about half. Gas is terribly expensive, but we all know that. I've got a list going on wm.com. But waiting until my next check comes through, don't want to use my cash.

I have not taken my supplements in a long time, except Biotin and Magnesium. Last night I took D3 and curcumin. Not real aches and pains this morning. I saw an ad for MSM which reminded me how much that helped pain, need to dig that out and take it too.

My hair is still breaking off even though I'm taking Biotin.

Identified some good items to sell yesterday. One was an old gaming system the kid used to play. Stopped for lunch then started cleaning and checking system. Not only does everything work, there are 2 systems in the box. Praise the Lord. DH and I did stop working for a minute or 3 to play one of the old games. Of course he caught the biggest bass, lol.

Seriously nudged to top off a few more canned items. Ordering from Amazon or Walmart today. Will be picking up more dollar tree milk in cartons.. Stopped in salvation army thrift store this week and got enough colored pencils for a couple of lifetimes for cheap. Have 2 grands with serious drawing talent. The rest of us just use the coloring books.

Moved 2 water heaters out yesterday. Room has to be emptied so new flooring and water heater can be put in. Old ones rusted out metal pan. Talk about a nasty mess. Replacing with rubber pan. Stacked all the limbs from a downed tree in back yard. Surprisingly my back isn't complaining yet today.

Was gifted a very special gift yesterday. An commercial cappuccino machine. Just needed a good cleanup. Since water was off I used fabulosa in mega quantity. Cleaned up nice. Soon as water is on will be enjoying a cup of French vanilla. There are 3 spouts so plan is to use 1 for hot water for tea and the others for hot chocolate and ccappuccino. MIL loves cappuccino so will be taking her some when we visit nursing home. Cappuccino is my one winter vice. Now I can enjoy it.

No other serious nudges other than a reminder to live in today. Planning for future is well and good but today is where I am right now. Need to slow down and live it. If life changes later today, so be it.

We have a nudge to top off fuels, DH is getting farm diesel right now even though he just filled the tank (one of the kinds that fits in a truck bed) in the past week or so. Tractors were filled then, not sure if he topped them off today or put the rest of it in the big tank. Tractors have to have it and we need the tractors for farm work, especially putting out large rolls of hay for the cows. He’ll fill up the truck with gas and the one gas can that was empty, lawnmower etc. are full. Later he has to go to a little town that’s closer to us so he’ll fill up the car then. @nomifyle reminded me that we need to check on the propane tanks for grill and griddle.

We’ve been topping up a few things along as I notice what we‘re getting low. I’ve been planning a Sam’s trip this month especially since Aug. thru the end of Oct. have been tax free for food. It’s been so nice to buy food the past few months and not have that tax added. Now that the weather has cooled off, I may do an online order for a few extras.

My kids and grands are doing some traveling right now and all this with Israel has me even more concerned about them.

I keep thinking about prepping more but I can't come up with things I can afford. Sure I'd like to get some of those scripts from Jase Medical, but not in my price range any time soon. That and several other things that I can't think of right now. DH is taking Amoxocillian (sp) right now for a slight uti, but its giving him grief. And come to think of it a UTI or two are the only things we've taken an antibiotic for in as long as I can remember. We did take some when we were so sick with covid two years ago, but I don't remember what they were.

Many years ago I was taking Goldenseal for the crud, the chairman of the department asked me for some and he was a doctor. I've got some on hand but haven't taken any in years. I'd like to get the Dr. Christopher book on illnesses and what to take but its $100 and Patriot Nurse has a kit with 20 different herbs in it but its way too expensive for me.

I'm not sure what herbs I have on hand, need to take an inventory.

Picked up a couple produce paks today. A local independent store does this on the first Saturday of the month. today it was: 3 bananas, 2 lemons, 2 limes, 3 apples, 1# carrots, 1 bunch celery, 1 green pepper, 2 avocados, 2 onions, 5# potatoes in a reusable grocery bag for $15. I feel that it's a good deal and will feed DH and I for a month for fresh produce.

We had our first frost/freeze last night. DH had some friends come and pick tomatoes and peppers - I'm thrilled that they didn't go to waste. I have probably 80 lbs of tomatoes myself to deal with, and I still need to pick cabbage, squash, and broccoli. Spent this morning showing a friend how to use the freezedryer as she's thinking of buying one, and going thru some stuff..... I brought home 4 pickup loads from a house that was being cleaned out that would have otherwise gone to the dump. Today I pulled out several formals, a bunch of ladies shirts from the 80s, and some other good stuff like jacquard fabric. I plan to sell it - not sure how at this point. I might list it in swaps - I just need to get rid of it, and I'd like to think it was a gift from above for me to sell!

I also got a tincture made for a friend for anxiety that works well for her (and I cannot tell you enough how that warms my heart), but I didn't get it mailed today due to the other friend showing up on my doorstep earlier than I thought. I have taken elderberry syrup, cough syrup, an energy blend, and digestive syrup all to the wellness center, but I don't know how much if any has sold yet. I've been a busy girl!!

At the beginning of the year your friend, by federal should of been given a Parent Student handbook outlining the behavioral expectations of students, what the discipline steps are, parental rights and all contact numbers and how to file a routine complaint and the process to do so. Parents are requested to sign off on that they received and read the handbook.

As the parent they have the right to receive copies of all discipline right ups and can challenge what is in the student’s discipline, school health and cumulative records.

Schools cannot recommend nor demand an RX or over the counter medication.

The parent should directly contact the police officer who charged the student (for what ever they said happened), and the district attorney.

I highly recommend that the parent find the best student rights attorney in her region and to do a one hour initial consultation and bring in all documentation.
I will gladly donate $50.00 towards her expense.

Have her write up a timeline of communication and her recollection of all calls made to her by the teacher, administration, school district, school safety officer, DA. Include any write correspondence as well.

She should also request a one month independent study contract and online learning resources.

As a former teacher I am appalled at tge plight your friends are facing.

She should not mentioning on the conflict on social media unti she speaks with an attorney.

Last week was busy with getting dental cleaning and a referral a root canal or extraction the tooth has had serious previous work done on it and is capped.

After forty years of coffee drinking it is the brightest tooth I have.

I had been calling the dentist I was referred to since last March and never coukd get toa live human and left multiple messages. I mentioned that to my dentist’s office manager and she emailed the referral dentist and boom, that office called me the same day to set my appointment which is in late December.

And now that I am finally on Medicare I got an appointment for the No cost Welcome to Medicare Wellness visit and will also get a referral for a mammogram, blood work up, and sleep study since my last sleep study was ten plus years ago and the sleep specialist doctor does not have my medical record.

My CPap machine was recalled and I need a current RX to get a new machine.

We have been harvesting the last of the tomatoes and cucumbers, the fig tree bursting with fruit and we will start harvesting the apples for cider, sauce and slices.

We are truly blessed and so thankful.

She isn't. She posts very little personal stuff on social media.

I understand what you are saying. I know it well and have used the knowledge many times. She thinks it comes down to a conflict between herself and the principal. Her son's teacher was teaching religion as part of the class work. She asked that it stop since everyone does not share the same beliefs. (Different versions of faith.)

Ever since that occurred, their son has been deemed a "problem" and is continually in detention or being suspended. They refuse to tell her what happens because "other child's privacy". What her son describes as happening does not warrant the level of punishment. She accepts that there are three sides to every story but she can only get her son's story.

And the school also told her absolutely nothing about referring to the DA for possible charges. She found a highly recommended attorney but the retainer is $2000.

Beyond that, she has multiple health issues, and just doesn't have the energy for this fight beyond what we've already done. I have suggested that she make sure to provide a written request, sent by mail with signature required, to the teacher, principal, and school board, for ALL of her son's records. At least she might be able to get some answers.

Her son is smart and energetic. And he is not an angel. But how is a parent to correct a behavior if they are not given information? None of us believe in punishment for the sake of punishment. And punishment should fit the crime.

At this time she has found a local church homeschool that she thinks will be a good fit. She is planning on talking to them next week and getting things set in motion. I'm going to be helping her locate curriculum to test for him. She has other friends helping as well. She is also considering a private church school that is in their area.

Thank you for the reply. It gives more understanding. May the mom be blessed with wisdom in getting the just right program to homeschool with. Getting the cumulative record is important for documentation of his past years in public school.

in regard to the kid with the school trouble escalating to the DA getting involved - wouldn't count on the DA's office dropping anything just because of a change from public schooling >>> they are like a dog with a bone sometimes - gets like some personal challenge to get their way with an issue ....

a judge will certainly give the change in schools an opportunity to re-evaluate the kid - better be a drastic change - could be his only chance in life - has to be some drastic activity involved ....

The letter from the DA didn't have any charges listed. It was a warning that if behaviors continued there would be charges. And suggestions to get him evaluated by his doctor for possible medical issues or consider placement in a behavioral issues school.

Maybe the principal thought that the threat coming from the DA would work more than the one coming from her. And DAs haven't been smacked for trying to provide medical advice like the school systems have.

He's been evaluated by his doctor. He doesn't have any issues that need medicating and the doctor sees no need to use a medication to sedate him for the classroom. Especially not at his age, with the current research on those medications being used, and how it has long term effects because it alters body chemistry. Basically, he'd have to use some form of them for the rest of his life if used long enough now. A pharmaceutical medication addict that is created. And not pain meds. It makes me ever so grateful that I resisted the use of those medications for my son when it was pushed. Long story there.

The behavioral school would become a fast track to more bad behaviors. It's basically a school to jail pipeline. It take problem kids and sticks them all together and isolates them from "typical" peers. Even perfect kids would end up changed in not good ways. Very few kids come out of it less messed up than they went in. He's not an angel, but neither are most kids. And none of us want to see that happen to any kids. Much less one we know and care about.

But I will tell her to read through again. And at least pay the lawyer enough to review the letter and make sure that there isn't something we missed.

Due course is definitely not short term. And it doesn't always get results. It will get them to promise to change. And pretend to change. That doesn't mean they actually do it. That's from experience.
