Good morning, All. :rs:

Today is our home fellowship, so I'm getting everything ready for the group to get here. We're studying through the book of Titus. I'm sure we'll be discussing what's happening in Israel, too.

Tomorrow, I have another doctor appt. with my PC doctor. It's just a checkup, but he'll most likely make an appt. for my yearly mammogram. It's due. I wouldn't even bother with getting one, but my mom and 2 of her sisters had breast cancer.

May we all be blessed this coming week. Pray for Israel.

Today was a perfect day to gather herbs for tinctures, oils and teas. We are also doing some propagating. I'm going to make some basil salt and dh wants to do pesto.
Cleaning out and reorganizing my kitchen cabinets.
Need to get the squash shredded and frozen. We have squash still coming on but the temps have been cold in the mornings.
Working on reimbursement from our flex account that will be a good chunk. It will go to the savings.
We are in extreme frugal mode since he's retiring next June.
Have a good week everyone.

Beautiful day, colder temps, but nice. I've had a nagging headache for what seems like forever, I can dull it but it keeps coming back. On top of that I have a tooth ache, I think I must have clinched my teeth in my sleep, it too I can dull, but it keeps coming back. I even missed church today, morning and night.

A friend is giving us a rooster so that our lone hen will have company and fertlized eggs. DH is going to let her "set/sit" on some to see if any will hatch. Soon he is going to order some pullets from tractor supply. We do not like not having chickens. And with what is going on in the world we may need them, more than ever. We do not care for store bought eggs.

Since I'm not feeling well I've gotten nothing done around the house.

At our place we have been keeping up with the news via various sources. In between I made a pot of vegetable soup as it was 41 this morning this morning! Managed a pan of brownies and some bread. Because of the lack of rain we are having to water so that took up most of my afternoon! This week we will continue to clean up outside. Clean some hand tools and tractor stuff. I have had blackout curtains on my mind for about 3 weeks. Not sure if I will move on that. Working on medicinal herbs to augment my stash if the supply lines are affected like I think they will be. Just trying to button up. And we are praying. I put it last on the list but actually it is at the top of our list. Hub's hip is giving him fits and keeping him off of it is a full time job so I will spend a large part of my week trying to keep him entertained. He doesn't sit still without grumping!

I overdid it yesterday. I did get outside today long enough to get ground cover cloth down. Since then it's been mainly laundry and resting.

There was a run for a pickup order because son needed some medicine stuff. That knocked me out enough that I ended up taking a nap. I have needed more naps the last few weeks than normal. I don't normally nap at all.

This week is getting wood chip cover into the garden. Doing laundry and repacking son's storage bags, with cedar and charcoal bags tucked in. Repacking meats. Picking up a bulk order. And if I get a trip down near friend's house, filling some gas cans. If I can, there will also be a run north to get a kerosene container filled. Kerosene for heating is getting harder and harder to find around here.

In keeping with the adage that "If you don't hold it, you don't own it", I pulled the trigger on the purchase of a new bull calf for my Angus herd. In the long run, I and my extended family have grown somewhat accustomed to eating. If beef becomes unobtainium we'll have a sustainable local source.
Between that and this Summers' harvest, we'll make it for another year (God willing).

Picked and stored a few winter squash, finished some painting, and am making fire cider today. I also made vegetable salad, broccoli salad, and brownies to take in our lunches this week.

DH has done some work on my pantry to make it more accessible, so I really need to get to organizing it. And the storage house, and going thru the stuff from the clean up house and getting ready to go to the mountains next weekend and....

Preps that are not 'stuff' however much those are needed too. . . A few weeks ago my youngest grandson upgraded his weight bench and other workout gear and gifted us his old gear. This caused a major cleaning/ reorganization of the basement so I have carefully restarted exercising now that it is mostly set up. The boxing gloves and bag are fun with loud 60s music playing!

Morning all. I love the cooler temps that come with fall.
This past weekend I made a big drop off to the thrift store with things I had decluttered last weekend. While there I did find a nice fleece jacket for me for $1.00. It is like brand new.
Hubby made some delicious homemade soup, and we have been eating on that the past few days. So good.
Watching the news on Israel (via this site) and looking for updates on Dennis. Praying hard for both situations.

Have a great Monday everyone.

We went to the Rhea Lana resale event Saturday using my daughters vendor pass. We were able to outfit both grandsons for winter clothes and get the couple items little girl needed. Both boys got a coat, a light jacket, 2 pair of shoes, pants, long sleeved shirts, and pajamas. After going to the sale, we got lunch before going to grandsons birthday party.

Friday our shingles were delivered and put in the barn till the roofers can get to us. They also had the picnic tables for the kids on the truck. We will have to get them to the kids soon. They are Christmas presents but we want them to be able to enjoy them during the pleasant fall weather.

We had to drive about 80 miles to get some equipment parts. No one local could get them or didn't want to. But the business 80 miles away has found parts for us more than once. We have mostly older farm equipment and keeping it working is much cheaper than buying new. The only new piece is our hay mower. We stopped at a discount grocery and got some clear jell for canning pie fillings and a small bag of wheat. I have a mill I have been wanting to try out so now I can. Coming home we needed to stop for lunch. We usually eat at a Salvadoran restaurant that we really like, but instead, we went to the lodge on Mt. Magazine. It wasn't crowded being before the weekend. The food was good and the views were incredible.

Yesterday we worked on the last of the mess in the back yard from having the tree cut that was lightning struck. We hope to finish it this morning. We have a bit more to cut into fire wood and the tops to haul to the burn pile. Hubby can pick the brush up with the graffel bucket mostly. I will take and haul the little stuff in my duty trailer. Hopefully I can put my clothes line back up today. I have missed having one.

I need to finish digging sweet potatoes this week. The gardens are about done. I need to start cleaning them up for winter. My black walnut tree has its first nuts this year. There are less than a dozen but I was still excited. Hubby bought me a nut cracker last year that does walnuts. The squirrels always get most of my pecans. I need to be eating some of the squirrels.

Have a good week everyone.

I see you all have things well laid out for your week. :)
Today is a Dr. visit and then going for home and finishing what we couldn't get done before having to head to town. Wood to be covered that dh split on Sat. he cut down dead trees, cut up, hauled home and slit a cord and a half.
The garden needs the pumpkins and etc. hauled in. A storm coming in tonight with colder temps with it.
Applesauce needs made.

Today is a doctor visit for me, too. Just a checkup. I'm really thinking of stopping in at Sam's afterwards. I need to restock all of our vitamins for another year, and there are several food items I want to add to my pantry. I've also used a couple of cases of green beans that need to be replaced. I was hoping for home canned green beans this year, but we didn't get a single bean! The vines were lush and beautiful, but no beans.

I plan to have a canning day one day this week. Ground beef and tomatoes.

For the most part, Cary and I are mostly watching live events from Israel on tv, plus what info we can get from here on the forum.

Cary had to take a break from dealing with the big pile of firewood. He has a bad hip, and it began hurting him to the point that he had to take a break to rest it for a few days.

Sherree... it probably was the heat that kept your beans from producing. The other usual reason is soil that's too wet, but I don't think you had that issue this year!

But one thing I'm wondering about... you burn a lot of wood; do you put the wood ashes on your gardens? The old timers always swore that beans HATE wood ash, and the only time I had a poor crop was after hubby had coated the garden with ashes ... it needed it, because the pH was too low, but it sure didn't help the beans!

Oddly, I can't find anything on line to back that up... it looks like the sites are going solely by pH to determine which plants "like" wood ash. But it would be worth thinking about.

We don't use wood ashes in any of the gardens. We have been told that fig trees and nut trees love wood ashes, so Cary sprinkles the ashes around the base of those.

We had such a cold and wet Spring that our beans didn't get planted, until it was really too late for them. We planted anyway, then it turned off hot and dry. They got plenty of water from the irrigation system, but it was the heat that did them in, I think.

I‘m feeling very sluggish today and not up to doing anything too strenuous. I wanted to get started on deep cleaning the living room today but I don‘t see that happening especially since DH is sick and is napping in here. He went to one of those Fast Pace clinics the other day as our clinic wasn’t open (total waste of time) and this morning went in to see our Dr. I hope to see some improvement soon. Between worrying about him, our kids and grandkids traveling right now and everything that’s going on in the world and what’s very possible here in the U.S., no wonder I feel sluggish. A shower and making supper will probably be my accomplishments for the day.

All fuels were topped off Sat. and I put in a small order with Sam’s for things I can only get online but not in the store, wild rice mix, powered non-fat milk and a gallon of Miracle Whip. The rest of what’s on my list, I’d rather get in person so I can check dates. I’m not overly concerned about using most things out of date from my pantry but I don’t like paying full price for short dated food items. The last time I was there I wouldn’t buy the Kraft Parm cheese or the Dukes Mayo because the date was so close to being out. I guess we’ll plan a shopping trip as soon as DH feels up to it and things haven’t fallen apart.

We have a few zucchini’s, several yellow squash and a nice cucumber from the garden so those will be incorporated into supper the next few nights.

I got a good report from my PCP, today. He confirmed what my rheumatologist said last Tuesday about me not being able to do the high protein diet. Too much protein isn't good for my kidneys. So much for that meat and eggs diet......I was sick of eggs anyway.

There was such a huge crowd at Sam's that I told Cary to forget about stopping in there. I'll just order everything I wanted to get.

Recently, there was talk about the bio-engineered ingredients in so many many of our canned foods. Local King Soopers (Kroger) has sale on Campbell's chunky soups buy 4 at 99 cents each....that's the limit. All Chunky soups were labelled with bio-engineered ingredients.....excepts for the Cambell's HOME STYLE chicken noodle soup. The Lable is sort of cream colored and does not say Chunky...but they were included in the sale. It's the only flavor I could find which does NOT HAVE THE BIO-ENGINEERED info. Bought the limit of 4. You may find it on your shelf also.

Another day that I feel lousy. Although the intense pain I had in my mouth and my head has subsided. I still have a slight headache but not mouth pain. DH want me to get the tooth extracted but I know this tooth and I've had pain issues with it through the years, so I gave it a chance to get better and now its normal. Just about nothing gets the headache to go away. Sunday I was taking way to much stuff to try to get rid of it, today its just slightly nagging. Even with the pain subsiding I still feel lousy.

Sunday we stopped at Dollar General and bought ice cream, three different kinds. I got fudge bars for me and the cold really helped my tooth pain. And I only ate vanilla ice cream yesterday. I just couldn't face trying to eat anything else. I'm generally not hungry.

I have an appointment with my pcp on the 18th and I'll tell her about all this. Not much she can do for me though.

This is the day the Lord has made, rejoice and be glad in it.

I woke up during the night with a terrible earache. It's still hurting. I've got garlic oil in it along with a bit of a cotton ball.

We've been doing some more winterizing this morning. Cary cleaned the flue and wood stove, covered the ac, and rolled up and put away all the water hoses. He also put away our floor fan. I drug out all the old towels I use for under the door draft stoppers and washed and hung out a load of laundry, after changing out the bed sheets. I had to put on a sweater to do that. He plans to do the flue and wood heater tomorrow. I don't like him getting up on the roof to do the flue. I always hold the ladder for him and won't let him attempt it without me being there. I think he also plans to do more work on the wood pile this afternoon if his hip holds out.

We are constantly watching what's going on in Israel. The tv is on in the background.

Even though we live very rural, we have reasons to go into big town quite often. It can't be helped. Big Town has a Muslim population large enough that there is a big mosque there. Cary felt it was time to clean, lock, and load. He's doing that now, but I won't get specific with the details.

We are having firewood delivered Saturday.
Dh is helping my sister finish up her laundry room and I'm helping her with a garage sale.
The news is disheartening and disturbing but I'm not going to be afraid, the Lord is my refuge and strength. Prayers for all.

We've been listening to Newsmax some and I heard FJB's speech. I thought what he said was okay but his words were hollow and meaningless,

Nice weather here today. DH has a couple of the goats in the empty chicken yard. He's had to separate two of the males due to their fighting. If he only puts one of the males in there by himself he whines constantly. Leaves are starting to fall, not only is fall here but winter is on its way quickly.

I'm still getting nothing done and the kitchen is screaming at me. I'd pay someone $100 to come and clean it up but I don't want anyone around here to see the mess. DH has been doing the cooking the last few days. I'm not hungry and nothing looks good.

I'm preparing for winter as fast as my old body will allow. Last week I disconnected, drained and hauled hoses to the basement. I've brought all food items in from the garage, and most are now staged in the laundry room -- you cannot walk through the area! Need to address that mess tomorrow!

Sunday after church I started clearing the garden, worked on it again Monday and today. Everything is cleared with exception of one tomato, the peppers and the cucumber vines on the fence. I'm leaving the flowers until there is a killing frost and then will pull those out. We had a light frost overnight, but just tips damaged on tomatoes. My dining room table is covered with tomatoes that I need to either give away or process SOON. Also, cucumbers and some squash. Gave squash and cucumbers to Pastor today and need to call the guy that mows for me to see if he wants anything. He shares with several widows in his neighborhood that he also mows for.

I've scheduled my annual physical for next week and a whooping cough booster for Thursday at the pharmacy. My car goes in for its semi-annual visit to mechanic on Thursday too. Tight scheduling to accomplish everything because I also have Bible study at 10:00 a.m.

I refuse to get any boosters for covid but want all other boosters up to date. If the SHTF, medical care will be even more sketchy than it is now. I should get another inhaler while at the pharmacy.

These inhuman creatures that can do what they’ve done especially to the children, babies and those that can’t help themselves, don’t deserve to breathe. They’ve proven again and again who and what they are, they don’t care for their own children.

We ended up with too much milk again so I took a gallon and started a batch of yogurt last night. The timing was pretty good since we’ve used up almost all of the last batch. We each flavored some to suit our taste, used some plain in place of sour cream for baked potatoes and ranch dip, and tonight I mixed some whey back into some to thin it out and used in place of buttermilk for the squash fritters.

I cooked up a couple of packs of Italian sausage, divided it up and vac packed and froze for future homemade pizza‘s today. Got the yogurt strained, got my plant orders unboxed, used up more yellow squash in fritters (last night was squash and onions cooked in butter). I’m enjoying having a second small harvest of the squash, zucchini and cucumbers.

And it looks like whatever illness DH had, has been shared with me, I just have felt worse through the day. Hoping for a good sleep and to feel better tomorrow. Fibro is also rearing its ugly head. DH has improved but has a ways to go.

Huge pile of items to go to womens shelter. Reorganized my stash of canning jars. In all this cleaning out we are doing, I keep finding jars and fabric. If I can just get items together in one place I will be happy. Found grandma's old sewing machine. Still works good. Found another sewing machine that needs a belt. So glad I found a package of belts in back of a seldom used closet.

Ordered a few food items to fill holes. Got big batch of sweet potatoes at Amish farm. Got those unboxed and put away. I only have a few older chickens. Will be butchering them this week. I know fresh eggs are awesome but I don’t want to have to take care of any outdoor animals this winter. I don't want to break ice or carry water or any of that. Have plenty of eggs in freezer for baking. For once in my life, I would like to just enjoy winter. If the world will let me.

Organized hoses and cables and equipment parts. Cleaning and organizing tools. DH Got a new to him toolbox that is so much better than having everything squeezed into small shelf spaces. He will be hanging some more curtain rods for me tomorrow. We also have a big stack of odd wood pieces to get cut down and put into the kindling containers. Will be checking everything on the wood stove to make sure it is ready to use.

It is rewarding to see space cleared and supplies stocked. We were blessed with a decent check for the items we took to auction. We are also ebaying some items. I try to list a few items daily.

Will be getting out my flannel shirts soon and moving our jackets back to the rack by the door. Met the grands for Mexican this evening and had to wear a light jacket when we came out after dark. Came home to find 2 armadillos in the yard. Will try to dispatch them in the next couple days. Tonight they were too close to the propane tank and we were just too tired to mess with them.

We are crazy busy but it's a good kind of crazy. Sometimes we find neat things we forgot we even had. Most of the time we are wondering why we ever kept some things.

I finished clearing the garden, yeah!! And I hauled hauling things from garage to basement that cannot freeze. I have a large load of colored clothes in the washer including what I was wearing in the garden. It was a perfect day to work out 62 degrees, slight breeze and cloudy. I wore a sweatshirt with an insulated sweatshirt jacket over and was comfortable. So, so, so glad that is done, and everything stored away. The asparagus needs cut and flowers still need pulled but I'm leaving them until we have a hard freeze. When the guy that mows for me comes to mulch the leaves, he'll mow and weed whack anything left standing.

Tomorrow, I need to clear the produce from the laundry room. I think I will process all the tomatoes from the final harvest into juice. I have enough juice already, but at my age I might not have a garden another year so it would be dumb to compost good tomatoes. I hate waste. I have some green tomatoes that I think I will spread out on cardboard in the basement to ripen. One year I had ripe tomatoes for thanksgiving. Once, only once!!

I also have a bunch of peppers to process. My red and yellow peppers did not have time to ripen so I'll be processing them as green peppers (which they are!). I'm thinking of freezing for stuffed peppers. My dh didn't like stuffed peppers, so I never made them and kind of forgot that I do like them.

I'm so glad I no longer have network TV so have not seen the horrible pictures from Israel. It's bad enough reading about what was done. Somehow seeing actual pictures of the evil haunts the mind and you can never unsee them. This also reminds me that Iran and various Muslim terrorist groups want the same for the USA. With our wide-open southern border, who knows how many terrorists have walked into the country and are planning attacks. If I did not already have a full pantry, I think I would be in a panic at this point with all the SHTF stuff going on. I keep reminding myself that whatever comes, the Lord will be with me all the way. It might not be pleasant, in fact it might be horrible, but I will never face it alone.

I have a pile of bell peppers. I think I'm just going to slice and can them this year. I did that two years ago and we liked the results so well that I burned through them in record time. I may need to see if I can grab a bulk box somewhere....

I didn’t get much sleep last night as I had to keep going to the bathroom and I didn’t even drink that much yesterday and whatever illness I’ve got, I feel worse today.

I managed to get a few new houseplants potted up and a few repotted today. I had to sit down, rest and catch my breath several times. I still have 2 or 3 left that really needs repotting, maybe I can manage those tomorrow. It’s going to be getting colder at night soon and they need to come back in the house.

DH decided to get take-away for supper tonight as neither of us felt up to cooking, he wants a fish dinner and I’m going to have a burger with mushrooms, onions and Swiss cheese.

My kids and grandkids flight just took off out of Phoenix headed to Dallas, then on into Nashville. They’ll have a long drive home from Nashville tonight and I’ll be so happy to have them home. If you feel so inclined, I’d appreciate your prayers for safe travels for them.

I have been absolutely and utterly exhausted today. I think it's two fold. One is that I made the mistake of using caffeine as a pick me up yesterday. It worked really well, but I'm paying the piper today. I should have realized that it was going to hit hard and fast with how drained my body is. Second is that it is almost exactly 4 weeks from my body hemorrhaging it's way through my period. And the body is already giving me signs that I will bleed this month. Once my brain put it all together, I bumped the hormone dose back up a level. Fingers crossed. I should know how bad this will tomorrow or the next day. I'd really like for it to be a light period. And I'm thinking it's a good thing that I didn't stop the extra anemia treatment boosters yet. I'm not trying to stop it, just trying to keep it from becoming another hemorrhaging event. If the hormones can't do that, I may end up with an emergency hysterectomy regardless.

I had a bulk order this morning. A really big one since I missed the last one due to being in the ER. It took a lot for me to get there, get everything loaded, get home, get everything unloaded, and get the cold/frozen stuff dealt with. Thank those above that I work from home because that's about the only reason I could work today. And in the list of blessings is that I only have to repack one of the meats. The rest came prepackaged in the sizes we use them in. And my freezers are crammed full again. Going to be honest, that is a relief for me.

I waited until today to look and see what Prime Day deals I was going to get. I had specifics in mind. The only one I didn't get was batteries. Because it turns out I can get them for a good price at Sam's any time. So they are on the next grocery list to refill the sizes we were running short on.

But a knitting loom large enough to make tubes for my son is coming. I will use the scraps of his old fleece blankets, turned into fleece yard, to make those. Those will provide some warmer ones for the winter months. The only thing I'm debating is whether I'm going to stitch the tubes closed so there's no raw edges. I may try one each way to see what his reaction is.

Then I got two security cams. These were to replace the ones I got from Woot about a month ago that were refurbished, and dead on arrival. These aren't refurbished. And aren't through Woot. And the ceiling mounts for them. These are movable 360 cameras. I really am trying to start to get the security cameras in place. They aren't hardwired but the quality is almost equal to the hardwired cameras that my Dad and brother can get their hands on. And honestly, if the power goes out, I lose them all, hardwired or not.

The last purchase was a couple of different knife sharpener kits. I am tired of dull knives. To get knives sharpened I have to drive 45 minutes away, leave them for 48 to 72 hours, and end up paying $10 to $15 per knife. I have too many knives for that. So I AM going to learn how to sharpen my own knives. And I got two sets of paring knives to replace the paring knives that have somehow disappeared from my home over the last decade or so. I'm tired of having to make due.

Son has been having a really bad time with migraines lately. So I took it to the top level two days ago. And I'm keeping it there for at least one more day, then we'll start the taper off and see how he's doing. This level of meds causes backlash headaches, so he has to taper off and we have to be careful. But today he's been in a better mood than yesterday. And yesterday was better than the day before. I'll take the increments.

Now... well, one of those order items was seasoned tilapia filets. I think I'm about to go heat up the oven and throw some in. Those, with a salad, should make a good dinner for us. And an easy super to make for a person who's pretty wiped out. All the dry goods from that order will have to wait until tomorrow afternoon, or Friday, to go to their new home.

Oh, I did do two splurges. One was a container of a tea flavor that I really, really like. The second was a cast iron mortar and pestle. That's a new unique one for my collection.
