Has No Life - Lives on TB
SouthernBreeze -- it sounds like your d-i-l may have some mental health issues going. Overly concerned about her health and then refusing to follow doctor's instructions. Likely more influenced by what she's seeing in vlogs and various other Internet sources. Guess all you can do is keep praying for her and your son and maybe put a bee in his ear about her needing a mental health evaluation.

That could be a part of it, Anna. She is overly obsessed with what goes into her body. I could go on and on about her beliefs, but a lot of it is all junk that she has sat and watched on different youtube videos or read in a book somewhere. Seems like her pastime is spent online doing research about it. Of course, she's so naive that she believes everything she reads. She works on her computer from home, so has access to it all during the day.

I'm all for eating healthy. I cook from scratch, but I buy ingredients from the grocery store, since I can't raise everything I use. Canned meats, veggies, and other store bought items from the grocery store makes up 95% of my food storage. The rest is frozen in my 2 chest freezers. People who have the ability to make and use what they raise or grow are very fortunate. I wish we were able to do that, but it's not possible. Do I have items in my pantry that have MSG in them? Sure, but I don't fret about it, and will certainly not throw it out. What about GMO products? There's not much in the way of canned veggies and other foods that aren't GMO, unless you only buy pure organic. I don't fret that either, within reason. White flour is NOT poison. People have been eating bread and biscuits forever, and I don't know of a single person who has died from eating flour. I have no health or medical issues with gluten. We enjoy homemade breads and biscuits quite often, especially cornbread, which I don't think has any gluten in it, since it's made from corn. I could be wrong, but I don't worry about it. We also enjoy sweets from time to time. Neither of us are diabetic, so why not? Am I concerned about all this stuff that's added to our foods? Yes, but everything within reason. There's not too much we can do about keeping it 100% out of our menus. All we can do is what we feel right is for us and our families, and most of all, Trust God with the rest of it.

I made from scratch last night, red beans and rice with sliced smoked sausage mixed in, a garden salad, deviled eggs, and buttered cornbread. I did not lay awake last night worried that anything I ate was going to make me less healthy or sick.

I woke up during the night wondering if I had everything I needed for establishing a sick room meaning someone that might need to be isolated. I remembered that I had copied a guideline from TB probably 25 years ago. This morning I found the manual that I had placed it in. After perusing the arcticle I realized I have a few holes. This coming week I will work on that. Just thought some of you might need a nudge also! I would post but the thing is about 25 pages long and was put together by someone no longer on the forum. It is a wealth of information...at least from my perspective!

That's a great idea....sick/isolation room. I've never thought about an isolation room, until now that you've mentioned it. I guess I always thought that if I were that sick, Cary would care for me, and the same if he were the one sick. It's only us two, so I wonder how that would work.

Ours isolation area is down basement - there is an area with a large room with a full bathroom next door that can easily be sealed off - both with floor drains. It is next to the utility room so easy to get linens, etc... to the washer and dryer.

Football, Football, and more Football

I took middle grandson to the high school Homecoming football game last evening; I stayed for a bit but since younger grandson was still at home I went back to stay with him. Daughter's house is on the south east side of town and the football field is on the northwest side of town but I could clearly hear the sirens that are set off when they score, and saw the fireworks at the end of the game. I was also able to see some videos from other parents, so that was nice. Game score was 50 to 7; and we are 6-0 for the season. Made for a nice atmosphere for the homecoming dance tonight.

My small high school - and many of the other small ones in our area did not have a football team, and my father wasn't into sports, so I didn't - and still don't - know much about football so I just go along with our daughter at age 5's explanation that "The grape ones are ours" and cheer madly when appropriate.

Middle grandson has a Junior Football League game today, so I'll be headed back to town for that. Not much else on the agenda today unless I do another WM stock up run.

Take care all - have a safe week out there!

Oh wow. Wiped out and I didn't even do most of the work. Friend was a bit surprised by how organized the steps are. A bit frustrated that I wouldn't let him shortcut until he realized how it all came together at the end.

Definitely going to have a discussion with doc on Thursday. This level of exhaustion is insane. Especially with the boosts I'm providing to my body. But it felt good to be outside and get my hands a little bit dirty.

Slow work on the house this weekend. Son has 3 more tubes. I may make him a few more. At least the sewing machine is set up for them. Most I might need to do is change the needle. I am going to have to order more needles in my two most used sizes soon. Thank heavens for bulk needles on eBay. I'd go broke on needles alone otherwise. And I am honestly very much in love with the walking foot. It makes working with slick 4 way stretch materials so much easier.

I did manage to verify that once the cameras are set up, they no longer need to phone home unless I want to change settings. I'll experiment more when I have the energy to see if they can still be watched on a tablet through LAN.. I'd like to have the one movable one inside, and two stationery ones on either side outside. Maybe 3 so there are overlapping zones. I need to pick Dad and Brother's brains on this. This is their field.

Going to rest a bit and then get working on house stuff.

I'm trying to get everything done today and tomorrow, because it's going to be very hectic next week with all the running around we have to do. I won't have time to get anything done. I've got all the laundry done, ironing done, floors all mopped, glass doors all cleaned, and furniture all dusted. I tried to do a little of it each day this week in order to stay on top of it for next week. In the meantime, between doing all of that, I've been helping Cary with the pile of firewood. I can't do much to help, but he says he likes my company. Also, trying to keep everything that needs it watered is a job dragging the water hose all over the yard. Mostly, azaleas, hosta, and roses. The grass is dead from drought.

I'm still saving tomatoes from the garden in the freezer to take out and can, later, when I have more time. I'll probably do that, once I get my next load of ground beef to can. Just make one big canning day.

You know, you might want to consider a test for mononucleosis... although there isn't a lot you can do if it is (at least officially... see below), it would help with peace of mind.

I'm now certain I had it earlier this summer... I was blaming my insane level of exhaustion on a chronic fatigue flare, but then hubby started struggling, exhausted to the point he'd fall asleep before supper, and by 5 pm, he'd look actually gray and like he'd aged 20 years.

I made him get a checkup, because he's always been the Energizer bunny, and even at 70, can work circles around men half his age... it wasn't right!

It wasn't until his second visit, after they'd freaked about finding a nodule on his lung (tiny, and I'm seriously NOT worried about it... we'll get another chest x-ray in a year and see if it's done anything), that he mentioned "I haven't felt this tired since I had mono in my late twenties! "... and the doc only then decided to order a mononucleosis test.

Sure enough... strongly positive!

I promptly started him on ivermectin, which made an almost immediate difference, and for the heck of it, decided to take it myself. Boom! In 2 weeks, the brain fog was gone, I could put in multiple long, busy days without collapsing, and it's pretty obvious we both had it... probably caught it from 4 year old granddaughter, who wasn't diagnosed, butvwho could be found fast asleep for hours almost anywhere on the farm for much of the late Spring.

Might be worth ruling out!

If it's not red blood cells or hormone issues, I will get them to check. If it's red blood cell, I think I'm going to ask for a transfusion. Or whatever else they have on hand to help the body through this. I still have the bruises from the ER room attempts to get blood. And the IV spot is still itching and driving me nuts. All of that should have been healed up last weekend. It normally doesn't take me long at all to heal stuff like that.

But that appointment is Thursday. So fingers crossed.

I had mono when I was 14 and I remember the brain fog was terrible. And I think I've had mini bouts of it through the years, just milder. Its not fun. Never got tested again though, what could they do anyway except label you. And at 76 I don't want to be labeled with anything.

In an effort to use something on my pantry shelf as the protein in my lunch stir fry, I tried tuna. Not the tuna that I consider premo but regular tuna in water. I put olive oil in the skillet and dumped the tuna in along with various vegetables seasonings that I normally use. It was disgusting. I picked out the broccoli and put the remainder out for the dog. so tuna won't work, I'll try canned chicken next time.

Well, hubby fever broke Wednesday morning and mine started. Today I got up fever free and feel much better. I am just glad we were at our worst on different days. It was probably Covid. Our son in law who was sick first sent hubby a message that several from his work have tested positive when going to the dr. He didn't go to the dr and neither did we. A day or 2 we really felt like crap. But I remember being just as sick at times before covid. It felt like flu in many ways. But honestly I am surprised how quickly I have bounced back once the fever was gone. Now I just have a lot of sinus congestion.

I let my chickens out for the first time in days. The days I was sick I just watered and fed them. So they are enjoying free ranging again.

I never made it to the store this week. We will have to go in a couple of days. But we had enough medication here to see us through. I need to replace what was used. I need to make more elderberry syrup too. I have frozen berries just need to make it. We are down to our last quart.

Before I got sick, I canned some muscidine juice. And today I made some applesauce. I will can it another day. I still have some more apples to work up. But I was glad just to accomplish something.

Have a good day everyone and stay healthy.

Now that granddaughter is in preschool a few days a week I’ve been changing up my schedule. Saturday is my new laundry day and it worked well last Sat. I managed to get all but one load done, but I believe I’ll get it all done today. This gives me more time to spend one on one with granddaughter as I usually just have her one day a week now.

Little by little I’ve been adding to the upstairs pantry from the basement pantry and the store. Still have lots to check and do as usual. We managed to stock up on cream cheese this week as Kroger had the Kroger brand on their 5 or more, mix or match .99 cent sale. Ten blocks are now in my fridge for future desserts and cooking in the coming months. We also bought in the .99 cent sale a few cans of French onion soup, some frozen veggies, Star Kist tuna pouches and Pillsbury cake mixes. Also from Kroger two of the 3 lb packs of Kroger brand bacon (very much like Wrights) for $14.97 a pack minus a $2.00 on 2 online coupon and two 5 lb bags of russet potatoes $1.99 each. From Walmart we added canned peaches, chili and tomato soup (Great Value brand) to the shelves.

There isn’t too many things that I’m brand loyal on and with the prices like they are now, I’m checking prices on everything even when it’s a store brand item that I may need/use only a few of. Every penny adds up and makes a difference. It’s so much easier these days to keep up with prices by checking online which store or which brands have the best price.

I had a much needed haircut yesterday and oh my, it feels so much better! It’s been well over two years since I’ve had a cut. I told hubby I should have weighed myself before and after as I’m sure there was a couple of pounds of hair on the floor when I left!!!

Ugh. Post office delivered package to the wrong house. They actually responded faster than I expected. And the carrier got back out there today but the person at the house says they didn't get it. Even though the GPS tags say they did. Geez.

But the carrier was cool. He came by to apologize. We ended up talking about plants, and kids with autism. It was an honest mistake and I pray it doesn't get him in trouble. He is definitely going to be more cautious in the future. If only because there are some distinct memories there now.

Son is crashed. He's still fighting headaches. If this doesn't stop soon, we'll have to go to his neuro. Friend has family stuff and can't help for the next two weeks. But I think that immediately after that we will get son in for his bloodwork. Just to make sure there's not something sinking in there.

But he loves his new tubes. It's up to 4 now, with two more pinned. I don't normally pin straight lines but this material is pulling weird. I wouldn't normally buy it except it was a good yardsale find. After this, I definitely won't consider buying it retail. And maybe not even yardsale again.
