CORONA What are you stocking up on for corona virus?

We have been doing a ton of shopping over the past two weeks getting ready for this thing. Grabbed all of our vegetable seeds for the garden too. Last night my husband and I hit the liquor store and bought beer, wine and a few bottles of good Scotch. There are going to be some nights of extreme tension and a good dram will be just the ticket.

True, but our world is rapidly changing.

That's true, too. I have two large chest freezers packed with meat and other frozen items such as butter and cheeses. I also have stocked up on canned meats of all kinds. We have a generator to keep the freezers going, and enough gas for the generator to keep it running for a long time. I don't depend on only one thing, whether that is my freezers or canned storage foods. With the changing times, it gets more "iffy" by the day.

We at the Doc1 Homestead are very well prepped. We boosted our already large preps a bit at the outbreak of Corona, but didn't really need much. I gave DW a pocketful of cash today to further stock up the liquor cabinet and my tobacco stores. With any prepping, you'll never know what you missed until you're in the middle of the storm. Still, we don't have many holes in our preps.

As with many on this board, I don't worry about our preps nearly as much as I consider the response of the unprepped masses. There will always be a legal grey area between normal times and WROL times. I've seen both. Some of you may recall that I posted about gasoline being stolen from our barn last month. I have since installed an alarm in the remote barn, but as I explained to DW, "You can't just shoot someone for stealing gasoline."

The problem is that in normal times, a shooting is bad legal news. Even if totally justified, there will be a police investigation, a likely grand jury adjudication and possibly the confiscation of your firearms, not to mention associated legal fees. You may come out legally clean on the other end, but it's still going to cost you. Do you really want to find yourself jailed at the beginning of a pandemic or other society-shaking event?

In a real WROL scenario, someone stealing gasoline could represent a life or death threat and there'll be no sheriff or grand jury investigation - because there'll be no deputies or grand juries investigating anything. Your response compass must always be considering changing circumstances.

Someone was stealing gas from my mothers car on a reg bases. I would always make sure her car was full of gas and each week she was going thru a tank full without her ever leaving the house. I figured she had a fuel line leak but couldn't ever find a leak so I parked the car in a grass covered part of her driveway just to check to see if after a few days a dead spot would appear where maybe a leak was.

A week later there were dead spots around the filler cap some one was siphoning off her gas out of the car. I parked her car in the normal spot of drive and left a 5gal gas can out near her car with 4gals of gas and a bag of sugar mixed well and topped off the rest with water. Gone the next night I never had a problem with gas getting stolen again who ever stole that can of treated gas and used it in there car locked their motor up and no longer was in need of gas.

Sometimes there is a way of Fixing things that need to be fixed without ever exposing the cure..

Well.
It's getting real for the average Joe.
I bought a 6 pack of hand sanitize for 14.65 now there are like 80 bucks.
The next thing I "need" is a few cases of diet Pepsi for the wife.
I’m a Diet Pepsi and Diet 7-up drinker.
I always stay a couple weeks to 30 days ahead based on my avg intake.
The problem is.... they expire in 2-3 months and then the taste is crap!
My moms regular cokes are good for 6 months but diet soda isn’t.
I plan on adding some more, 2 more weeks worth, to my stash but not much as I’m the only here drinking it and it will go bad.

While a supply is available, you might want to wean yourself off. You could start slowly, drinking a 1/2 can less for awhile. Then eliminate a full can and so on.

I used to have a 3X can a day Pepsi habit. It took me about 2.5 months to quit and I lost ten pounds without exercising, plus my acid reflux went away.

I know you're drinking "diet" pop, but you might see some improvements in your health.

Doz, it's my understanding that drinking solutions containing various salts of silver can give people's skin a blue tint, not consuming CS. We use homemade CS regularly and no one's turned blue lately.

Like yourself, we're considering using a vaporizer filled with CS. I suppose turning blue beats turning over in your grave ;-)

Working on what used to be called 'iron rations.' Simple heat and eat canned foods, or just open and eat in a pinch. In case everyone is sick and no one is up to cooking from scratch. Soups and stews, canned fruit etc. And crackers. Saltine crackers.

Trying a few of the new varieties of Nissin cup soups too. Nissin | Chow Mein – Easy Chinese noodles Toss in a little Sriracha (if you like it spice hot) and good to go :D No food fatigue please.

Got a good bit of dry pack canned beansnrice, looking for some easier and less resource intense alternatives. Cans because juice in case of no water, camp stove cooking in case the power is down etc.
Walmart shows out of stock on the individual packs. Do you have a favorite?

Just so everybody's aware, this guy is a PhD in economics NOT an MD.

I do so admire the confidence of youth.

Anyone setting out on a new career as an herbalist would do well to study ...

Herbal Antivirals: Natural Remedies for Emerging & Resistant Viral Infections: Stephen Harrod Buhner: 9781612121604: Amazon.com: Books seems useful to me in my wilderness of ignorance on the subject. Apparently the paper copies are gone now but it is still available on Kindle.

Best regards to all, and always always do your own due diligence on everything. There is no shortage of questions - stock up as much as you can on answers.

not buying anything. We do our usual shopping for groceries once a month at Sams club. A good prepper should already have all their preps for anything that could occur. I already had n95 mask, tyvek suits, gloves, food, etc..

Picked-up about 20 lbs of beef (ground, steaks, stew) and packaged it up in 1 lb. bags for the freezer; nothing fancy. Canned chicken breasts and Tuna. Basmati rice.

Ordered a 5 lb bag of Jolly Ranchers (AMZ).

Filled some 5 gallon gas cans and added PRI-G (stabilizer).

I'm staying with canned. If everyone is homebound that means electric, natural gas, truck drivers, just not my husband! lol He thinks the economy will collapse if he doesn't work! Of course, that means air travel domestically gathering germs along the way. :( He has always poo-pooed my prepping. Now he thinks I'm a genius. lol sorta :)

True! But like a good prepper, you have to eat your preps before they expire. Medicines expire. I went to CVS today for my maintenance meds, Decontamination room, I use honest co. hand sanitizer. I bathed in it when I got to my car! The 2 places I visited today I did notice brand new hand sanitizer wipes for carts, near the pharmacy. I grabbed several in the pharmacy to use their ATM. can you imagine the germs on those machines they want you to sign. The girl looked at me like I was a nut, I just looked back at her like F*** you! My immune system is compromised.

Are you in a position to install a little solar power? My chest freezer uses only about 1KWh/day in the summer and about 0.6 in winter (in garage). Solar provides much independence.

It's nice to be a recognized genius from time-to-time! :)

So I have plenty of the counter top bottles of hand sanitizer but only 1 bottle of the refill sized bottles. So I was placing a walmart order online and needed a couple of bucks to make the free shipping amount and I figured I'd add a refill jug of hand sanitizer. Well walmart.com is all out of all of the flavors of the 60oz Equate Hand Sanitizer bottles and all stores within about 75 miles also show out of stock. So if you need it and see it on the shelves you might want to grab a bottle or 2.

I just did my final Walmart order (for a while). I ordered another 20# of sugar (we use about 30# each summer feeding the hummingbirds), more vitamins and supplements, and a few other mixed items. Now we are set and likely will not even be going to our local small town again for quite some time (at least several weeks).

How much is coronavirus awareness penetrating in ZUSA society? A small town Texas PD just warned their population the local meth supply was tainted with coronavirus and residents could have theirs tested at the PD.

So far no takers ...

yes it is, especially from my non-prepper family! At one point I was so obsessed my hubs was ready to take me to the psych! Of course, my extended family laughed and made fun of me! I drudged on. I still get my subscribe/save Amazon monthly delivery, Cases of the 'good' TP/PT! My hubs decided to count cases once, I gave him the don't even look back! For hand sanitizer I use The honest co. brand. It is said to kill 99% of germs. It's not as gloppy as Purell! Cant stand that stuff although I do have some :) No solar power but I'm pretty sure I have a solar oven in my preps. I need to organize!

I don't think my neighbor "stocks up" on dry goods, but i know she has 3 huge freezers in her garage full of meat like fresh chicken and cow and pig. I could barter her some rice or tobacco or something for some meat! She doesn't know i stock, but i did tell her all about the virus and said to get some food. I didn't go into details. I told her i heard it on the radio. She's a good person. They are very religious Catholic and the husband is a Deacon which i think is pretty neat. I can go to him if i have a problem.

I read diet drinks make you crave carbs and then you gain weight.

I knew a guy a few yrs ago who drank a whole cup a day of his colloidal silver for yrs and never turned blue. It depends on how tiny the silver is i guess.
