CORONA What are you stocking up on for corona virus?

Could not find a parking place at the Grocery store, first time that has ever happened. Something is spooking the folks. Empty shelves on the way.
Need more cat and dog food. Sounds like I need to check out the rice isle. During the depression mom made something she called Depression rice, with tomato's and browned onions in the frying pan, I still make it now and then. Rice by itself is just rice,

Avoid guessing and impulse buys. First step is always start with an inventory. Pull out those storage totes and physically inventory what you have and where it is kept. You maay find yourself overstocked with some stuff You thought you might need, and missing stuff you thought you had. Can be enlightening

I bought more pet food and kitty litter. Some Organic Heirloom pork as I can't get any decent pork where I live odds and ends of over the counter meds and DH is trying right now to get his Dr. to give him an extended prescription for his blood pressure meds.

I decided I needed to order more of the 16 ounce PET bottles I use for colloidal silver- they're OUT. And as I watched, the backorder date changed from March 3rd to May 31st!!

Fortunately, I think I've found another supplier... it will be a few cents more each, but I've GOT to have them!

Went to Scam's Club yesterday, rice inventory is dwindling especially 50#.

I decided today to get the N95 masks, wiped out at Target, Home Depot and Lowes, but Lowes had the very expensive ones in stock.

At Home Depot, saw several people buying dozens on the orange buckets and lids.

Yesterday and today had more shoppers than I have seen at the grocery stores here. That surprised me.
Yet where I am is quiet and nothing is happening.... makes me happy, but is strange.

Went to the box store this morning to pick up a few more 5 gallon gas cans. Was in the automotive section and they had a whole shelf full of mechanics tough nitrile gloves. Lots of stuff gone in the paint section (masks, suits, gloves, etc) but many don’t realize these tough gloves are in the mechanic section.

We thought we were pretty well prepped for anything, until this morning! Our toilet crashed, LOL! We sure don't have an extra one stashed away, so off to town we go tomorrow to buy a new one. I also plan to take advantage of Sam's sale, tomorrow, too. Lots of things we use are on sale there. Hopefully, they are still fully stocked. No last minute shopping, just adding to what we already have.

Making a Costco run tomorrow with brother. Will let you know what I find there.

My list is getting pretty long (most of it is stuff that we use frequently and will last at least 2 years) but it's stuff I'm about out of.

Just made a batch of spaghetti sauce and got it canned, so I should have about a years supply of that. Have 2 #10 cans still in reserve so I can make more if needed.

If you happen to have a copy of Stocking Up laying around, check it for rice recipes that can be vacuum packed. Did a lot of those for Y2K and they were pretty tasty.

Been dehydrating veggies (I use the frozen el cheapo mixes which dehydrate nicely) like mad since we use them in soups and stews a lot and I was getting low on the supply. Then put them in plastic bags and vacuum pack them.

Been buying meat and chicken pieces when they are on sale and vacuum packing them as well, both freezers are pretty well stocked with meat. Just wish our rancher friend had a cow ready to butcher, but he hasn't even bought any calves yet to fatten.

My last pair of Wolverine boots is getting pretty tired, and I wanted to have a replacement on hand. A newly arrived Sportsman's Guide catalog listed Bates Shock FX boots for $79.99, which is basically half normal retail. I called, they had my size in stock (not something I can take for granted at 14EEE), I ordered.

Bates Men's Shock FX Waterproof Tactical Boots - 700768, Combat & Tactical Boots at Sportsman's Guide if you wanna see.

Free Buyer's Club 30 day membership offer got me 10% off and free shipping.

Thank you for sharing! Our son wears 15eee, and they are hard to find sometimes.

FedEx delivered 30# of corn meal (I really like cornbread) and mixed other supplies today. After I put everything away I saw I still had available space so I will likely do another order over the weekend.

More dog food.

Apricot brandy. Cures everything.

Yep, I've been ordering from Amazon to fill in the gaps I've found. Was almost out of shredded coconut, which we do use regularly. It came yesterday...does anyone know what *TEN POUNDS* of shredded coconut looks like? What was I thinking?!?!? We went straight from understocked to overstocked...LOL!

Make sure you’re stocked up on whole almonds and chocolate, as well.

NP - also did a batch of fresh mushrooms last week and they came out fantastic!

I have a Nesco American Harvest Garden Master and just followed the directions for the mushrooms. Tried some frozen broccoli too - but that's for use in soups.

Still can't get tomatoes to turn out right so I guess I'll just buy a bunch of packages of the sun-dried vacuum packed ones from WallyWorld.

Cheap, easy, you'll never use all of it. Store in a plastic bucket with a good lid.
Another option for pure pool shock (no additives):
Calcium Hypochlorite"Ca(OCl)2" Minimum 99% Pure! 70% Chlorine. 1 Pound Bottle: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
Calcium Hypochlorite"Ca(OCl)2" Minimum 99% Pure! 70% Chlorine. 2 pounds in Bottles: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
Calcium Hypochlorite"Ca(OCl)2" Minimum 99% Pure! 70% Chlorine. 3 pounds in Bottles: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

Store carefully in a plastic, NOT metal, container away from flammable liquids like gas, diesel, oils, etc.

I was originally supposed to take two blood pressure pills, but cuz i take hawthorn and Q10 and mukta vati i only need the 40 mg pill. But i still fill the other script every month. So now i have 6 or 7 bottles that will last me a whole year. They are 80 mg and i just half to cut in half. I'm so glad i did that. One time the pharmacy lady was wondering why i take the two. None of her business. I just said the doc ordered it. So i hope we all get our meds after a few months. People gonna be really hurting. I know 2 people who are on zanix. The girl is a waco and needs her meds.

My neighbor butchers a cow, a pig, and chickens and has 3 huge freezers in their garage. I know they don't stock other food. I figure i can give em some rice or tobbacco to barter for some meat! I'll just say i only have a little rice left.

Watch this stuff even in the plastic original container! I had a 5# jug of it completely disintegrate... I had to sift (fairly small- this stuff *really* broje down the plastic) pieces out of the powdered chlorine before I could repackage it. I put it in tripled heavy (4 mil) zip lock bags inside a 5 gallon pail.

Stored in a dark, cool baement.

I buy the dollar bag of peas and corn at the Dollar Tree and dehydrate and put in glass jars. Then i make boullin cube soup in a cup and add the dried veggies and some dried mushrooms, put a dish on for ten min and the veggies are soft to eat. Stock up on boullin cubes. I can't spell that.

It's the chlorine gas from the calcium hypochlorite (pool shock) that destroys containers.
It is strong enough that 1/8 of a teaspoon of the pool shock is enough to purify 50 gallons of water in a sealed barrel.
That's why it is easier to make a small amount of normal (5%) bleach from the pool shock, then use drops of the 5% bleach to purify a gallon or 2 of water at a time.

I have more or less shot my wad this month, but for the last two or three months I have been rebuilding my canned food supplies. Hitting the BOGOs and ordered cases from Sam's Club as well as filling up our small freezer. I have ordered several extra sheet sets as well as bundles of kitchen towels/hand towel-sized towels and washclothes. I figure I might need that size more than the regular bath towels and bath sheets we use. Got dog food, TP, paper towels, and cleaning supplies, but, of course, could always use more, but I feel comfortable with what I have. If we get another month before it gets froggy, I'll be shooting another wad -- LOL.
I buy all my hand towels at Salvation army for a dollar each. They look brand new. I just wash them and they are good.

I read somewhere that you can dry tomato paste. Take it and spread on saran wrap on your food dryer. Then when done roll up and keep in a bottle. I never tried it, but i should. Get lots of cans of tomato paste cuz it's great for cooking.

Do you have a link (or the math) to show how much 70% hypochlorite you need per gall9n of water to make a 5% bleach equivalent? I don't trust my memories of high school chemistry class... too many decades ago!

I was at the local Wal-Mart today, the parking lot had more vehicles, but not overly busy at the many self service registers. It was odd that cases of wet ones were mostly removed from shelves and placed in an aisle. I hadn't seen that before.

I always have extra 4x8 sheets of plywood along with screws in case I need to board up a window for whatever reason. A couple of years ago i took out my patio sliding door. We never used it, it leaked cold air in the winter and was a security flaw for the house. Anyway, never like it. I took that portion of the deck down and re-stalled it for shelving in the garage.

I carry extra roofing tar and caulking, just in case. I also keep on hand extra bundles of shingles. I have cases of extra plumbing and electrical supplies. It seems like I'm always redoing something. I have an extra outside water hydrant. Already replaced one hydrant. Two years ago I rewired a new utility pole in my yard. I dug up old underground wires and moved to the new pole. I reused the underground wiring but everything above ground was crap, so I put all new in up to the overhead wires. New 200 amp fuse box, yard light along with extra disconnect switches/fuses.

I have lots of food and water already, but living on an acreage or farm has it's own unique challenges.

I have purchased no masks at all. I cannot think of a reason to buy any. If things get bad enough so I think I need to wear a mask, I'll just stay home instead. But more food and other supplies are always a good idea.
You need a mask. What if you have to go to the store to buy needed food?

Remember, if you can't get stuff at the store, Amazon has their big cargo planes that come to the islands and so if you have Prime, you get what you need, it only takes an extra day or two. V

Also, we installed a Blink security camera system a couple of months ago. I know there
are many great systems out there, but we really like this one. We have five cameras with the system and
can add more. Day or night we can watch and record activity.

I usually make big yearly order in August, but I might do it early. Real soon in fact. Thinking of ordering canned meats, fruits, baked beans. Plus everything else required to run house for year.
