As Harry’s biographer, I fear the worst for him

ByAngela Levin

"‘ARE you having a nice day, ma’am?’ asked the black driver earlier this week as I settled down in the back seat of his cab.

‘I’m very busy going round TV studios to talk about Meghan and Harry,’ I replied.
‘That woman!’ he snapped. ‘She’s got him round her little finger. She was after his money and title and now she’s got it she’s off.’

‘Some people say she hasn’t felt welcome in the UK because she’s mixed race.’
‘No,’ he said firmly. ‘It’s just an excuse. I feel sorry for the prince.’

I do too. I began writing Prince Harry’s biography three years ago and spent well over a year accompanying him on various engagements, and chatting with him at Kensington Palace. I found him to be charismatic and witty, and I loved the mischievous twinkle in his eyes. He wears his heart on his sleeve, which perhaps is partly why he makes instant connections with people of all ages and types. It was amazing to watch how easily he made damaged or terminally ill children laugh, and gave physically and psychologically damaged ex-service men and women hope for the future.

Harry has been less successful in finding someone to love him who could also cope with life under the media spotlight. He believed he had found that person in Meghan Markle. When she made her public debut as Harry’s official girlfriend at the 2017 Invictus Games in Canada, cameras focused on her gazing adoringly at him whenever he was on stage. In retrospect it could have been the start of her acting out a role that convinced many, but not all, of her naturalness.

They made a habit of holding hands – sometimes Meghan also hugged Harry’s arm – on royal engagements on behalf of the Queen, something I thought rather odd for a couple in their mid-thirties. Move on just a few weeks and first impressions could have been that Meghan was the royal and Harry the novice. She gave speeches at official visits, leaving Harry looking lost as he hovered in the background. She has since answered questions on his behalf even when reporters directly address the prince. I even saw her pass flowers from well-wishers during walkabouts to Harry to hold, a job usually handled by junior staff.

It was obvious, however, that Harry was proud of and besotted with his wife-to-be and announced before their lavish May 2018 wedding that ‘What Meghan wants, Meghan gets’. He still desperately wants to please her, rarely sees his old friends, has given up smoking, taken up yoga and announced that he is a feminist. [GAMMA! --M.S.]Nearly a year later the couple moved from Kensington Palace to Windsor.

This meant Harry would see much less of Prince William and Kate. Although the brothers have had their moments, Harry told me before the marriage that William was ‘the only person I can trust and say anything to’. Last September Harry revealed in a TV documentary that he sometimes can’t get out of bed in the mornings because he is so worried about all the problems in the world.

Imagine then how painful it must have been for him the following month on the penultimate day of their (until then) hugely successful tour of South Africa, when Meghan choose to voice self-pitying comments about how unhappy she was in one of the poorest countries of the world. ‘I am existing, not living,’ she said in front of her husband of less than two years. No wonder Harry looked so stressed. He hinted that they might leave the UK, when in fact plans for exactly that were already well under way. It was later revealed that they secretly registered a new website sussexroyal.com last March, and in June they trademarked their name on more than 100 goods and activities.

Harry adores and admires his grandmother the Queen, and she him. She likes to have her family with her at Balmoral in the summer and Sandringham for Christmas. Yet the Sussexes declined both invitations, despite the fact she is nearly 94 and has had a horrible year. Prince Philip is unwell, and Prince Andrew’s friendship with a paedophile led to his being asked to step back from royal duties. To rub salt into Her Majesty’s wounds, the excuse in the summer was that baby Archie, then four months old, was too young to fly. But then the three of them flew by private jet to stay with Elton John. They also chose Canada over Sandringham for Christmas.

Then came the bombshell announcement that Harry and Meghan no longer wanted to be senior royals and they would live in Canada and perhaps later Los Angeles. Or both. The announcement, which by-passed the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William, made Meghan’s view of the royal family and perhaps the British people very clear. Harry no doubt agreed with it too, but what a heart-rending choice to decide whether to follow the woman he adores and their son Archie, or stay closer to his family to help his aged grandmother. No wonder he looks crushed. There was also a dark cloud hovering in the background that if they didn’t get what they wanted, they might well give a ‘tell-all’ interview.

It was an unprecedented crisis, but on the same day as the rushed summit at Sandringham a touching, gentle and upsetting statement was released in which the Queen chose to speak as a grandmother rather than the head of state. She referred to the couple as Harry and Meghan and mentioned the word ‘family’ eight times. It was obvious that she was very worried about Harry’s state of mind and realised that the Palace had been outsmarted, at least for round one.

How has it come to this? An insider told me that Meghan thought that marrying a British prince would give her the much-longed for opportunity to become a global figure on the world stage and campaign for her often Left-wing and woke causes. She got it wrong, but has been at work remedying the situation and is in line to make millions.

What about Harry? No one knows what goes on between a couple behind closed doors but in public at least it’s obvious that Meghan takes the lead far more than Harry.
I fear there will be turbulent times ahead. I hope he won’t become just be a useful stepping stone and that she won’t tire of a special man who has given her his all."

Galloping geriatric
At the risk of repeating myself (made from the start of this subject matter) he is a "pussy whipped prince"

I wonder how long they will retain their titles...........HRH and Duke & Duchess titles can easily be removed - Isolation is very effective, look what has happened to "Randy Andy" - they have even removed his protective Security Detail coverage! he is on his own in public now!

I loved the suggestive comment from the Queen to Hillary re sparkles having info that may cause her arrest - talk about arranging an Arkanacide!!

I see Harry as a LOT like his mother. Maybe not glued down too tight, but a real "people person" and extremely well meaning. Also, Harry has admitted to having problems with depression.. That little phrase about him not being able to get out of bed in the morning speaks volumes.

Thinking that's why the Queen and Philip didn't come down on their heads like a ton of bricks last week. What will happen will happen...but there are gonna be some rough years ahead before this sifts out. Hope it doesn't end badly for Harry.

Five Reasons Meghan Markle May Not Have Got on With Britain All That Well

Oliver JJ Lane
11 Jan 2020

Prince Harry and Princess Meghan astounded the world — and the Royal family, apparently — when they announced they were giving up on their senior royal duties and decamping to Canada. In fact, Meghan has gone already — appearing to leave Harry to pick up the pieces at home.

And it’s a shame, because the UK really did seem ready to embrace its new American princess when the pair tied the knot in a fairytale wedding at Windsor in 2018. Furthermore, the British people really do support the monarchy and do tend to cut them a lot of slack. So what could possibly have gone wrong?

–All those flights–

So, it turns out that British people really aren’t that fond of hypocrisy. And one of the most obvious forms of the art this century has come from the media class, lecturing the ordinary folk on not taking flights while on jet aircraft themselves.

Meghan — and by extension, Harry— has turned out to be an absolute master of the genre. Flying to Africa to hector the rest on climate change was a highlight — working to save the world, one private jet at a time.

The fact is, being a Royal is a pretty globetrotting job and folk accept that — the British monarchy is also the monarchy for 15 other Commonwealth Realms worldwide including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea. Far from hating on the Queen for the flights she makes, Britons really love the modest way she also travels by train a lot, in preference to the private motorcade or helicopter, without feeling the need to lecture everyone about it.

Indeed, the Queen often skips the more expensive Royal Train altogether these days, and is sometimes seen travelling on ordinary public commuter trains, going with only a single aide to carry her bags. Well, she is 93, after all.

–Because stoicism is for other people–

The famous British stiff upper lip has taken a mighty beating in the modern era — amid the army recruiting millennial snowflakes and young men being encouraged to talk about their feelings rather than learning to regulate them like sane, well-adjusted people. It is small wonder there’s any sangfroid left to shore up a civilised society at all.

But even so, perhaps the United Kingdom’s much-reduced sense of reserve is not easy to acclimatise to if coming from the emotions-trump-facts luvvie world of Hollywood. Nobody expected Meghan Markle to break with Royal protocol in a television interview with British network ITV in 2019 to talk about how hard her life was — not least the interviewer, who appeared genuinely amazed to have his questions answered.

Describing marrying into one of the wealthiest, powerful, and respected families on the planet, former U.S. television actress Meghan told the documentary her life was “hard” and a “struggle”.

So there you go.

— Going too far, too fast–

It may have been the case that Meghan privately believed that under the staid exterior, curly sandwiches, and luke-warm tea the British people were actually mega-woke and just praying that some forward-thinking Royal would finally bring up their children as gender-neutral.

Talking about feeling the “embryonic kicking of feminism” from your unborn child and declaring you’d not have too many children because climate change — which certainly wins applause in narrow, liberal circles — just comes across as a bit odd to the majority.

–Demanding princess treatment–

Could there possibly be truth in the impression given that Princess Meghan expects to be treated as more Royal than the Royals?

The papers have run with repeated claims that Meghan has had to be told off by other Royals including Princess Catherine and the Queen herself for failing to treat members of the Royal staff with sufficient respect. That’s just not the way things are done in Britain — you treat the lowliest with a respect those in other nations might reserve only for the highest, or at least you’re meant to.

In fact, revulsion at the haughty way a growing number of well-to-do people regard those at the bottom of the ladder was one of a thousand little nudges that pushed the United Kingdom to vote for Brexit in 2016 — have no doubt. The idea that the Queen would be rude to a member of the public just rings hollow.

Through an entirely separate Royal scandal in the past year we now know, supposedly, that well known Royal princesses occasionally go out for dinner with their Duke fathers at local branches of entirely ordinary eatery Pizza Express. A far cry from Meghan and Harry banning their neighbours from petting their pet dogs and ordering tennis fans to put their cameras away at Wimbledon because the Princess was present — despite sitting very prominently in the Royal box for all to see.

–She broke Prince Harry–

Prince Harry is — was — really popular with the British people. And little wonder. He was the handsome attack-helicopter pilot who served on the front line with the infantry in Afghanistan prone to occasional silly decisions (extremely questionable fancy dress choices and turning up naked at a pool party, for instance). He was the man who tragically lost his mother at a young age in the public eye and has devoted much of his adult life to charity work.

The well of public sympathy for Harry in Britain is deep.

And yet, rightly or wrongly, the public has perceived a sudden change in the party Prince in a very short space of time, and Princess Meghan being at the helm during that adjustment.

Country pursuits are a key part of the social calendar for the family Meghan married into — yet Harry made headlines in 2017 when he declined to attend the Royal family’s traditional Christmas shoot. This reportedly was to please his “flexitarian” activist then-fiancée.

Harry once took his military roles very seriously. But now the British tabloid press reports the Royal Marines, who he enjoys the honour of leading, haven’t heard from him in “months”. What is going on?

— Because Britain’s really racist–

Yeah, not really.

In fact, it is the American mainstream media which made such a meal out of ethnicity, not the British. And yet North America is where the couple is heading.

In a survey at the time she became a princess, Meghan was more popular in the UK than a whole host of royals, including the heir to the throne, Prince Charles. If British people were just interested in how light someone’s skin was, you might expect that to be the other way around.

Another piece of research at the time found the British people were extremely relaxed about the whole thing — 79 per cent said they were fine with a Royal marrying a foreigner, 78 per cent were cool with a divorcee, 69 per cent had no objection to different ethnicity. In fact, the only area that didn’t have overwhelmingly majority support was whether a royal could have a gay marriage or not, and even then more supported than opposed, at 44-to-41 with 15 per cent don’t knows.

This and many other reasons is why James Delingpole points out that the United Kingdom is a country more comfortable with race than many others in the west. Despite what certain pedlars of agitprop and alleged racism would claim otherwise.

LONDON (AP) — Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, will no longer use the titles "royal highness" or receive public funds after a deal was struck for them to step aside as senior royals.

The palace says the couple will repay some 2.4 million pounds ($3.1 million) of taxpayers' money that was spent renovating their home near Windsor Castle.

In a statement Saturday, Queen Elizabeth II said she was pleased that pleased that “together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family.”

The deal sound good for Harry & Meghan. They get their freedom & ability to make a whole lot more money than they've been getting or would get in the future. They're still the Duke & Duchess of Sussex. He's still Prince Harry. They keep Frogmore Cottage. My guess is they'll still get money from Charles from the Duchy of Cornwall for a period until they get going on their own money making efforts, but that part will surely be kept private given it is Charles' personal income that he would be sharing. Perhaps Charles will even cover the paying back of the funds used to renovate Frogmore, but again we'll never know that piece given it would be a private father to son transaction. No doubt Harry will still inherit money from his grandparents too when they pass.

They can always change the trademark / patent from "Sussex Royal" to "Suss Ex-Royal" to get around that. It's a better fit, don't ya think?
I always thought of her as the Duchess of Suck Sucks and I am certain the Queen gets a little giggle every time she says it,

Then you are more than welcome to scroll past my posts. Easy peasy!

Agreed... She has a past track record of being a social climber and a gold-digger. The poster child of the "All About Me!" selfie generation. I cannot stand to look at her! And, what is "unbecoming" is the way they both dumped this on the Queen and Prince Phillip, who saw their generation through the London Blitz and the REAL dangers of Nazism ( not the fairy tale danger of "climate change" )

Screw her and the high horse she rides around on!

Harry was overheard saying "What is this tax bullshit. I thought the Americans got rid of that in 1776. How can you have taxes and not have a royal family?"

DOS AND DON'TS Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s neighbours issued with list banning them from talking to royals or asking to see baby Archie

: 27 Jul 2019

"HARRY and Meghan’s neighbours have been warned by royal flunkies not to talk to the couple or ask to see baby Archie.
They must even avoid stroking the pair’s dogs should they bound over.

The astonishing “do and don’t commandments” were issued at a residents’ meeting.
One local said: “It would be funny if it wasn’t so over the top.”
Narked neighbours ordered not to talk to Harry and Meghan said last night: “Even the Queen doesn’t demand this.”
Flunkies issued the list of dos and don’ts for people living near the couple’s new Frogmore Cottage home on the Windsor estate.

Locals have been told:
  • Don't approach or instigate conversation if you see the Royal couple
  • Do say 'Good Morning' or some other pleasantry if they speak to you
  • Don't pet or stroke their dogs, even if they come over to you
  • Don't offer to walk their dogs
  • Don't ask to see baby Archie or offer to babysit
  • Don't post anything through the letterbox of Frogmore Cottage
They include royal staff, officials who live in grace-and-favour houses and Crown Estate employees.
Buckingham Palace last night insisted the request had come from an “overly protective palace official” — without Harry and Meghan’s knowledge.
Residents were told not to approach or speak to the privacy-obsessed pair, nor ask to see baby Archie. Patting their two dogs is another no-no.

INCESSANT DEMANDS
A local told The Sun: “It’s extraordinary. We’ve never heard anything like it. Everyone who lives on the estate works for the royals and knows how to behave respectfully.
“We aren’t told how to behave around the Queen like this. She’s very happy for people to greet her.”

The warnings were made at a recent residents’ meeting where the issue of the Sussexes’ move to the private Home Park estate was raised.
Royal commentator Ingrid Seward said: “It sounds as if Harry and Meghan’s incessant demands for privacy means that palace officials are second-guessing what they might want.

“It’s odd because it’s just good manners to engage your neighbour in conversation in a pleasant way. It’s a very normal British thing to say ‘Good Morning’ and pat a dog.
“The Queen always chats to neighbours and even has tea with people on the estate as she’s very friendly with them. The ‘not petting the dog’ is particularly strange.
“Maybe Harry doesn’t want people approaching them and using their dogs as an excuse to talk. And of course the dog with no name keeps its privacy as they won’t tell us its name!”
Meghan brought rescue beagle Guy over to the UK from Canada, then she and Harry got a black labrador last September.

They have always refused to reveal her name, even when asked by well-wishers.
The Sussexes have been criticised for spending £2.4million of taxpayers’ cash on their Frogmore home and keeping details of son Archie’s birth and christening private.
They refused to reveal the identity of the two-month-old’s godparents, citing their privacy.
The final bill for their five-bedroom home will be more than £3million once landscaping and gardening are finished.

Around 400 people live in the private Home Park and Great Park area of Windsor, which is run by the Crown Estate.
They include the Queen’s right-hand woman and dresser Angela Kelly, Prince Charles’ old nanny Mabel Anderson and the governor of Windsor Castle."

Well, Ms. Markle is lucky this isnt a few centuries ago, or she’d end up in the Tower of London...

Or, as some conspiracy theorists believe, even a few decades ago in the time of Diana!
