Oh, ok. I misunderstood thinking it was on sale. I guess my last order of ground beef was full price then. I just tell DH what I want him to order, and he does it for me. I don't do online transactions where money is concerned. He does all of our online shopping. Even paying full price, I only had him order two cans along with some other items I can't get in the store.

I was thinking about what I said earlier about the price of Walmart's Great Value meat costing about the same as a can of Spam, but I was wrong. Each 12oz can is around the 5+ dollar mark. Spam is cheaper than that, at least where I get it.

Even a full price it is a deal. So don't worry about it. It will last 5+ years has no pull tops and will be a great prep / pantry item. With either the beef or ground beef, you can have a number of options to enhance your meals.

We have about 1/2 a dozen of each. Most bought on sale, ( we have used some already ), and I expect that we will keep buying them even at full price. I like the great value at walmart, but they have just too much salt. Keystone doesn't.

Yeah, I will keep ordering, too, even at full price, even if I can only order two cans at a time. I've got 10 cans of the beef, and would like to get as many of the ground beef as I can, since we eat a lot of ground beef.

I don't mind eating the canned meats from Walmart. Neither of us have to watch our salt intake too closely, but we don't overdo it.

I may start adding a can or two of the ground beef to my orders from amazon, although I do have a good amount of it already. Although I buy the 14 oz can, seems to be enough.

Does anyone know if you can buy canned smoked sausages such as Polish Kielbasa, LOL!!!! I've got all the meat in my freezers covered with canned meats, except for the sausages. I'm working my way forward on the ground beef, but haven't found a substitute for smoked sausages. I don't like freeze dried meats. Guess I can Google it.

Did a quick google search, and the only thing I can find is something similar to Vienne sausages. Not what I am looking for. I may just have to go with the smoked sausages from Hickory Farms. Don't know how long a shelf life those have, though.

Smoked sausages may be hard to find that don't taste like vienna sausages (yucky) and would be very expensive. Home canning might be your only viable option. I'd have to give up eating anything that the only option is to home can, as I've never had much success at canning.

I love hickory farm type sausage, not sure either about the shelf life, I put mine in the freezer.

Yeah, DH nor I like Vienna sausages. Would not be a substitute for Polish Kielbasa. I have several packages stored in my freezer, but am looking to do away with frozen meats should a SHTF event happen. I'm gonna check out the Hickory Farms smoked sausages to see what their shelf life is. Even if it's just 6 months, that's better than nothing. A good quick rotation would have to be made, but we eat Polish Kielbasa on a regular basis here in several recipes, German and Cajun. I can buy one from Hickory Farms, and try it in a recipe to see how it works, before I go any further on stocking up on them.

I do not home can meats. I tried and failed. Have to do it outside with a turkey fryer set up, and couldn't stabilize the temps correctly. Pressure canners are not my friend.

Price increase

I have been checking the price of the roast beef every day, hoping that it would drop again. I just checked it a few minutes ago, and couldn’t believe the price increase! Unless I’m missing something, its up to $14.61 for one can!

The plan is to cancel the NETFLIX this month and switch to ordering Keystone. We try to keep our spending neutral or reduce it whenever possible. LOL

Too bad the government doesn't do that.

Have any of you used this beef yet? If so, what recipe did you use it in? Or, how did you use it?

I heated it with two 2.5oz cans of mushroom stems and pieces; 1 tsp. granulated garlic; 1 Tbsp dill weed; 1 tsp Kosher salt; 1 tsp ground black pepper and 2oz of corn starch slurry. When heated through I added 1 14oz can whole new potatoes and heated for an additional 5 minutes over low heat. Made four servings, (kept well in fridge for 2 days). Good flavor close to my own home made pot roast that takes all day.

Thanks, that sounds good! I was thinking of using mine in a similar way. Nothing like a good pot roast with potatoes in quick fashion.
