What LaPoint did is show how things work and its simple and elegant in its simplicity. There are a good number of astrophysicists that have accepted this theory. The primer field theory made sense and it also explains a few things they have tried to come up with a reasonable explanation for but nothing seemed to fit or was just not right.

We racked up another 5 days bringing the offical total to 100 spotless day to the year 2017. Mind you this looks like another micro sunspot that back during the maunder minima Mr. Maunder would be able to see with his 1 1/2" telescope.
Ok; the official total spotless sun day's count for 2017 is 104. This current stretch that just started just 3 days ago and continues on into the new year 2018, only time will tell how this round will go.

It's not a very impressive sunspot.:
It would not have been counted prior to orbital telescopes.
We have had a few spotless days and only to have another sunspot show up the next day and a few of them were short lived, so yeah on and off again.
Today were are spotless and into day one of a new stretch of spotless sun.

We have racked up 40 days and 40 nights without sunspots, bringing the total spotless count to 40 days and it being March 16 making it 54% of the year of 2018 without sunspots.
Today one very little micro sized sunspot has popped up out of nowhere and even the experts are saying its nearly invisible and may be gone by tomorrow.

As predicted the micro sized sunspot came and went and back to no sun spot's and now at 41 spotless days.
We are in a new string of spotless days and have now gone 6 days without sunspots.
Its now 47 days with no sun spots and making it 56% of the year without sunspots.
I let it go and not reporting seeing how these micro sunspots were poping up out of nowhere.
The precentage of spotless days can change over night and the count swing in the other direction and we just have to wait and see how it all plays out for the year 2018, but right now its not looking good.

We just went 10 days without sunspots and now have another micro sunspot.
From january to today in march makes 89 days into the year 2018 and so far we have racked up 52 days without sunspots and making it 58% of the of the year without sunspots.
So we are now 89 days into the year 2018 and that now makes 52 spotless days and only 32 days with sunspots and a number of these sunspots were very small (micro sized) and a few disappeared a day or hours later.

Its April 10 making it 100 days into the year 2018 and out of that 100 days we have gone 61 days without Sunspots, at this point and time makes 61% of the year without Sunspots.
As of right now we are into a 9 day stretch and have a tiny sunspot trying to form almost dead center of the Sun.

Back to blank sun as in spotless. new round of spotless days and it day one with 68 spotless days. The percentage of the year is now 57% and it's because of the resent micro sized sunspot and the time/day's it took for its transit across the sun in it's rotation. The percentage of of the year of spotless days will change with any given number of sunspots that may appear at any given time during the corse of the year.
We had 104 spotless days for the year 2017 and continuing into 2018 may make for one of the coolest summers in decades and really it's to soon to tell as it has not happened yet.

That's good news. I will continue to pray that this *won't * be a Grand Minima... I'm really not up to handling the cold, snow and struggle it will involve here on the farm!

Judging from what's happening in the Southern Hemisphere, the Grand Solar Minimum is here. Next winter will be twice as bad as the one last time.

The drought that I feared does appear to be happening in my area, we haven't had rain in weeks and our temps every single day are in the upper 90s. Last night the DFW area had baseball-sized hail, lots of property damage, but the storms lost their punch as they approached us and just fizzled out. We need the rain, but certainly not the drama and damage. We are now pumping into our stock ponds every night to keep water levels up. They are evaporating at a rate we wouldn't normally see until August.
If I remember correctly, the solar minimum not only gives us colder and extended winters, but weather extremes - violent storms, drought, etc...well, we do seem to be there. As much as I hated downsizing our herd, now that our grass is beginning to go dormant due to drought it was the right thing to do. If this keeps up we'll have to consider stocking hay and feed against rising prices and shortages as other ranchers start to feed their animals when the grazing dries out. Normally we can graze all summer and into fall without needing hay and cattle cubes until winter. We may well have to begin feeding our herd in a few weeks.
This is beginning to look like a nightmare.

Indeed hail is a major problem right now-it has wiped out a lot of the French vineyards for example.
Drought in Texas could be a major problem. Can you bring in fodder or hay? Costs?
Can you downsize your herd to the best, core breeding stock?

Indeed. The winter of 2017/2018 was merely the start of The Grand Solar Minimum. Next winter season is predicted to be twice as bad, and 2024 looks to be especially severe.

As for the weather 400 years ago there was no official record kept back then. But sometime about 7-8 years ago a small group of people in europe decided to try and find some clues of what really happened.
Digging into and going over old archives revealed little, so someone suggested going to some of the older monasteries around europe and sure enough they allowed them to have a look and even helped them and they found enough written about daily life to give them a very good idea of what took place over passage of many years. The rain's and storms they have seen in europe over the last few years is only the beginning.
So unless the Sun does a complete turn around it's only going to get colder and how bad it will get this time around? No one really knows it's almost imposable to predict what may happen more than a year or two out into the future and even then it's a shot in the dark.
