So I grabbed my nice feather duster this morning and dusted, LOL, so far its only two tables and the tv cabinet, but it only took seconds to do it.

Today we go to renew the license plate on my van and do the walmart pick up. I wanted to get some of the swiffer wet pads, but good grief they are expensive. If I remember correctly, I think my brother use to swiffer his floors every day. I'll do like I've done in the past and use the generic dry pads and just spray cleaner on them, maybe even generic fabreeze so it will have a nice smell. DH wants to use a sponge mop but I don't like mops because then you have to wash them. I use to do that but these floors only get dusty and not "dirty" like the did when my neanderthals were growing up. And I doubt they plop on their sofas like the did mine. I think the ex was bad about that too.

We have enough beans and cornbread (for DH) for another meal, but since we are going to town we will probably get mcdonalds. I've cut way down on what I get at mcdonalds, we use to get the 4 for 4 but that want away last years. Then you could still get that food but I decided to cut out the fries and the burger and just get the nuggets instead. So that cuts back the cost and the calories and I'm satisfied.

I have enough ground meat cooked to make spaghetti but I may not do that until Thursday. We eat in town today so something light for supper and tomorrow evening we eat at church. They are having my favorite nachos and tacos. I may surprise DH and make salmon patties on Friday or not. By that time I'll have 4 pounds of ground meat thawed to make more meat loaf. Those two big meatloafs I made last week lasted about three days and I think we may have eaten it twice a day. I need to work some vegetables into those meals. I don't always have salad stuff so what is a good vegetable to have with beans?

I just looked at my grocery pick up list and saw that I had slaw dressing on the list, so that is something I can have with beans. DH will like that. I do have shredded cabbage in the fridg. I always made my own dressing for slaw, but, alas, DH didn't like it. Heck, I may not like the slaw dressing. DH likes miracle whip (gag) and I'm partial to Blue Plate mayo.

Blue Plate mayo use to be made in New Orleans but they were bought out and its now made in several places. Since I don't use mayo very often I may not have noticed a difference. Could be like Popeyes, its not naturally New Orleans anymore, sounds more like Atlanta to me. I quit eating at popeyes when they discontinued their chicken wrap. I use to love those chicken wraps with red beans and rice in them.

I told DH yesterday afternoon that I was going to make cornbread, and he said when and I said now. His baby blues lit up.

I have certainly rambled on. In a way I have no one else to talk to except you wonderful people of this thread, I use to talk to my brother.

I use the swiffer dry pads to sweep and the wet mop pads to mop. I use the swiffer duster to dust with. They trap the dust better without just moving it around in the air. When I sweep, I spray furniture polish spray on the pad. It sure picks up stuff better, and it leaves my floors all shiny. When I mop, I have to change the pads twice for the whole house, and they dry out pretty quick. I carry a spray bottle with floor cleaner (vinegar and water) in it, and I spray the floor with it, then mop an area at a time. I have regular brooms and mops in storage if ever I can't get refills for the swiffer products.

Most days I'm bored with the topics on "main", so I come here often and ramble, too. I like when others on this thread ramble, LOL! I don't feel so bad about doing it. I can usually find something to do with prepping that I can talk about. Food, gardening, pantry items, shopping lists, etc.

Living in the country and using wood heat, dust is always a problem. I have to dust every other day. I sweep every day, but only mop once a week. That is throughout the whole house. I have no carpet anywhere in the house, only ceramic tile and wood flooring. It's a job to get done, too.
I'm going to price the swiffer products at walmart today and see if the have any generic ones. DT does have some too. Although they come in plastic instead of the tubs the swiffer ones come it. I like lemon scent, smells so clean.

We have carpet in the two bed rooms. I begged DH to take it out, but he likes carpet in the bedroom. Of course its now full of germs and needs to go, but its not too likely that will ever happen. The front bedroom is my office, its going to be a major under taking to get it in any kind of order, but I'll work on it a little at a time. Gives me something to do in life.

Thanks for the tops on dusting and keeping floors clean. Once things are in order it won't take all the long to keep it up. The worst room is the first room we come in and its more like a mud/sand room. It needs attention daily. Dh will faint if I ever get to that practice. The Lord is faithful and I'm praying about it.

DUST! I have way to much. We have hardwoods and no house pets. I scratch my head daily wondering where it all comes from.

I need a good feather duster. Someone shoot me link of one they use and love!

We had carpet throughout the house many years ago. More than one dog at the time, too. It stayed filthy, even though, I vacuumed and cleaned it regularly. I got tired of the carpet, plus, in high humidity, it sweat. We decided to pull it all up and replaced it with wood and ceramic tile. Really, it's easier to keep clean than carpet. I really didn't want to have to find a way to keep carpet clean in a grid down situation, either. That was also a big motivating factor.

We have ceramic tile and wood throughout our home too,, and I use a swifter for a quick mop, and I have bought the reusable pad that I can throw in the washer. I also have some for my steam mop. It saves us money and is environmentally friendly.

I am going to run fence this week, but I'm still recovering from my dental procedure last week. I'm not quite up to it right now, so my goal is to have it done by Saturday evening. I'll probably do something else that doesn't require as much effort, like starting seeds.

Spring is definitely here on our farm. We have several geese sitting on nests, incubator is full with our second batch of chicken eggs, baby bunnies have arrived, and we had twin mini nubian doelings born this morning! I love this time of year!

Where do you get the reusable mop pads? I would definitely like to have some. It would save me lots of money. Like I said, I have to use 3 of them to do my whole house.

Getting our tomato and pepper seeds going, here, too. April is still a rather cold month, so we're waiting about doing any planting outside for a while longer. The first week of May is our target date to start the whole garden.

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
Oh MY!!

I AM FEELING BETTER!!
I increased my thyroid supplement to two a day!! I will continue with that until I have the dollars to purchase a new one I am going to try....

Got my Bible reading done this morning, which I haven't been getting done and now have a double batch of cornbread baking.

I need to get a load of laundry done at the old house today......although I wear and then fold my good clothes and put them away after church, I am sick of wearing my grungy work clothes!!

This afternoon, I also plan to transfer the hens back down to the hen house and install a lock. Later, i need to install a more secure door. The one on there is just a screen door with a glass insert that slides down and allows jus the screen to be there. I have set up an alarm system on the Quonset hut, so that if the door is opened and you don't know what is awaiting you, there is a tremendous clatter, that would wake the dead.....and EVEN ME if I am asleep!! :lkick:

I also hope to get some of my strawberries planted this afternoon and of course feed and water all the critters!

I am SO GLAD I feel less like a SLUG today......and if you have kept me in your prayers ....THANK YOU!!

Still lifting all of my compatriots (all of you!!) for GOD'S TENDER MERCIES and LOVING CARE!!!

I use washable microfiber cloths I got years ago at Big lots. They have pockets on each end that you attach to handle.
Mop is Rubbermaid (?) Spray mop with washable pads. You mix yourown solution. Both are lightweight.

We have had weeks of terrible spring wind and dust. Think brown skies.

This week weather is better so I am dusting !

Sometimes I have to wait until I am in the mood to do particular jobs around the house. But it is totally worth it to have everything orderly. So much easier to maintain rather than try and work around messes. I definitely have the " tidy" gene.
I can tolerate a little dust but not a mess.

I bought them from Amazon, but I bet Walmart probably carries them.

Thanks, I'll check at Walmart next time I go. I might just buy one of those dust mops that have reusable and washable pads on them. Wouldn't hurt to have a few extra pads for that, too. It wouldn't work too well for mopping, though. I've seen the dust mops at Walmart and thought about buying one at one time.

Two safety pins and a microfiber cloth work great for dust mopping with Swiffer and the same with a spray bottle of cleaner for mop ups. I actually turn the cloth over and use both sides before washing it when dust mopping. The Swiffer dry with microfiber cloth also works well to dust down walls. I also like it because it will slide under things the vacuum won't. For scrubbing I have a Swiffer wet mop with the built in spray. Expensive, but I don't scrub that often.

For dusting which I don't do very often I use (1) Swiffer dusters (2) rag sprayed with dusting polish (3) microfiber gloves I got at Walmart for $5 which are washable and (4) if really bad vacuum brush and then move to 1, 2 or 3. I HATE to dust!! The gloves are so nice because you can use both hands at once. My worst dusting problem are a coffee table and 2 end tables with glass inserts. Those I REALLY HATE to dust.

I use microfiber cloths or rags for almost all of my cleaning. Right now I have two clothes baskets worth of dirty rags waiting for clothesline weather. I don't like to put them in the dryer because of the excess amount of lint the rags produce. Any 100% cotton will work for rags with old t-shirts and towels being favorites. When I wash them, I use hot water and bleach, so they are probably cleaner than anything else I launder! I keep "throw away" rags in the garage so that I'm not trying launder oily or gas rags. I have two small square baskets on the shelf above my kitchen sink, one with dish cloths and the other with "rag" washcloths for cleaning up spills especially from the floor. I never use a dish cloth to clean up anything from the floor.

I've got several bulk packages of those microfiber towels 16 in x 16 in from Sam's. They make great dish towels, because they are so soft and absorbent. Never thought of using them for swiffer dusting and mopping. I've got an over abundance of safety pins! I keep a good store of old bath cloths that I use for cleaning up messes.

I scored a smoken' deal yesterday at Lowes. I've been shopping around for the best prices on pelletized lime for one of my pastures. I was informed by every resource that the equivalent price for 7 tons in 40 lb bags was substantially cheaper than the 1,000 lb sacks, so off I went looking at the big box stores too. Well, Lowes already had the lowest price at $6.48 with a 10% discount for quantity bringing it to $5.83. Then, I got an extra 10% off as a Veteran, bring it to $5.25 per bag. AND they will deliver it to my pasture!!! (My trailer has a 10,000 lb limit).

Now, if the snow will just melt away for my April 24th delivery! :p

I learned something new yesterday that you all probably already know. If you shop online at Walmart, type in clearance food and those foods pop up. I tried it with soap too, and I found some really good deals.
wow I didn't know that either. It will have to wait until next month because I've already spent this months money, that is unless I break down and use a little cash.

so I did my grocery pick up and got my license plate renewed. I would not have gotten the renewal if I'd been by myself because I was tired. But it was quick there was only one other person in the DMV and two people working.

They had everything on my list, although it wasn't really all that long. I got two of the one pound propane canisters, DH asked why I got them, to which I said because I wanted to. I'll remind him of that the next time he wants one. A couple of years ago I got one of the little burners that you can put on top, that way it would be really quick to boil water, rather than drag other cooking things out. Plus we have a couple of Mr. Buddy heaters. The price of two use to be the price of what one is now, so twice that much.

I had to take something back and after that transaction I turned around and completely forgot what I had come in the store for, other than my return. I walked around a bit and started to remember. I did get the pricey swiffer wet pads. I have other of the dry pads and I actually do have some of the reusable pads that I could use, they fit on a different mop. I figured the pricey swiffers would be good for this initial clean up and if I keep at it I want need the heavy duty ones for daily use.

I got a head of cabbage to make cabbage steaks. I did that one time and they were tasty. I also got a large bag of broccoli flowets, cheaper by the oz than the one pound bag. We divided it up and vacuum sealed several serving size bags. I went to take them out to one of the camper porch freezers and its a good thing I did, one of the freezers was off and the contents was defrosting. Besides ground meat, there were two pork loins. Everything was still cold, so most of it is going back in the freezer. Although the tomatoes and peaches were toast. The stuff in the bottom was still very cold, so we just turned it back on and see how that meat fares. One pork loin is in the crock pot and the other one, along with some ground meat is in the fridg to work on tomorrow. I can only do so much before falling out. I just need to rest for awhile and maybe get more done.

With going to town, and dealing with that freezer I'm tired and got nothing done in the living room except dusting this morning. Although I'm anxious to see what I can do with the swiffer pads.

I like clean and order to my house but one the other hand I can put up blinders too. But its been a tough year or so what with the delta varient of covid and my knee issue. I'm still a little unsteady and maybe I was that way before covid and wasn't as aware of it. I do remember having vertigo problems. But all is well and I'm blessed.

Taking a break and checking on all of you Dustbusters! I spring clean every year right after pine pollen season. No tips. Just have to wipe down everything in any manner that I can think of! Hubs finished up the lean to’s for the barn today. We moved last June into new house and barn was quickly built and then Everything was just thrown into that barn. Tomorrow we will start on barn organization. We have agreed to only work a few hours everyday on barn but I am guessing that schedule will be thrown to the wind. Hardening off plants in greenhouse to get them ready for garden and started 3rd planting for greenhouse. Herbs will be hardened off next and the new load for GH is all flowers! Those are for me. Mine mine all mine! Corn is up and 2nd planting is about to be planted. Everyone of my peppers germinated this year. That’s a first for me. IOUJC glad you are feeling more like yourself and that you are about to get to play in the dirt. That makes a person feel better all by itself!

Cary has worked all day, off and on, to finish up the 2 trees in the neighbor's yard. Finally, he got it all hauled to our house. He can now work on splitting and stacking it into the woodshed. He still doesn't know what to do with the tree in our yard as to how to get it on the ground all the way. It'll make good firewood, too. I would hate for him to have to cut the whole tree down, but if he does, it'll be ok.

After tomorrow, our temps are going into the upper 70's and low 80's for the foreseeable future. No rain the rest of the week. Cary mowed the yard for the first time, yesterday, and with dryer weather, he may actually be able to till the garden area and get the raised beds ready for planting in the next few days. More severe weather in our forecast for Friday into Saturday, but I'm praying that it won't develop here. We need so bad for the ground to dry out and no more severe storms.

Since I didn't have a clue as to when Cary would be home with his last haul of firewood, I just planned sandwiches and chips tonight for supper. I needed to use up some Spam, LOL.

I tasted the cole slaw dressing that I got today and its fine. I opened a package of prechopped cabbage and it took half a bottle of the dressing and the cabbage could still use some more dressing. At almost $3 for the bottle of dressing I'm going back to make my own. I mixed some of the cole slaw with some of the beans from yesterday and it was really tasty. Slaw will be my go to veggie for bean day.

While at walmart I went to the hot food section and got two nathans hot dogs in a bun. They are so good, so at McDonalds I only got a drink and I was totally satisfied for lunch.

I have a 2001 Ford F150. Its the only new vehicle that I ever bought. Its been sitting up for a good three years. Dh said he wanted to get it fixed. And then he said something about selling it, and I said absolutely no. It should not cost very much to put it back on the insurance, I love that truck. That would give us three vehicles, we don't need three, but you never know whats going to happen with all this ev BS. I read an article that said we may be like Cuba with all their vintage American cars, keeping them running. And then again we are both long in the tooth.

I put two more Coleman propane canisters on my next months grocery list.

Well, our community water is still running on generators, and everyone on down the road from us going towards Amory is still without power. We're right at the edge of not having power ourselves. So, we're really thankful that we have it.

I don't know what our plans are for today, yet. We had a terrible night with our dog last night. We didn't get any sleep at all. I gave him a new treat late yesterday afternoon. He must have been allergic to it, because he started licking, scratching, and chewing himself. That lasted all night. I finally realized around 3 am what was going on and gave him a Benadryl, and it stopped. He had a rough night of it, too, and now he's sleeping it off, after getting another pill this morning. I think he's allergic to either the rawhide or the chicken in those treats. All of his other treats are made from peanut butter. He loves peanut butter and sweet potatoes.

There is one thing I plan to do, today. I'm going to begin to change out my heavy winter clothes to more spring type clothes. I don't think we're going to have any more bad winter temps (hopefully). I'll be gathering some of my spring and summer clothing as I change these out to take to Mom for the thrift shop she helps to support.

Supper tonight will be hot dogs with oven roasted garlic potatoes.

We have a nice cooked pork loin in the crock pot, I used onion soup as the seasoning. Now to let it cook down a little, and wash the crock pot to put the other one that defrosted on to cook. some of this one will get vacuum sealed and in the freezer for later, same with the second one.

When I showed DH my list of foods to cook he said he'd rather I clean the house than cook and couldn't I do two things at once. I guess I thought I couldn't but it looks like I can.

Today is the day to clean around DH's chair, side table, tv tray and cart he has at his chair. Its funky. Last night I dropped a few graham cracker crumbs on the floor and immediately cleaned them up, oh my. This was where I've already cleaned.

DH keeps going down to the goat barn to check on the babies, only one would take a little milk, the other one not at all. We usually have good success when the babies are born and DH is sad about it. He doesn't show emotions much but I can tell.

ETA: Sherree, I'm praying for your area and all the devistation going one. It sure brings back memories of Katrina. People will pick up the pieces and go on, having Jesus in their hearts will greatly help.

Well, I got me a wee bit of a dilemma here.

I was able to serve on a board that reviews applications by scientists for cancer research funds, and they paid me to do that.

My pay won’t set the world on fire - just $800 - but it is enough to have to file a 1040 with the IRS, with a Schedule SE, so I can pay Social Security tax on that money.

Now, here is the problem.

I have somewhere between 40 and 50 dependents right now. All of them feathered, of course, but I am the sole support for my feathered kids.

The thing is - form 1040 only has room for me to record information on the first 4.

How do I record info on my 40-something other dependents?

And what do I do if I haven’t gotten around to getting them their own unique Social Security numbers?

I slice cabbage into "steak" size, drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle garlic salt and pepper on them, and bake at 400 for about 10 minutes. My DH loves these, and he's not a fan of cabbage.

I do almost the same. I slice the cabbage into about 1-1 1/2 inch slices, put on a baking sheet, put a dollop of butter on top on each slice, sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Bake at 400 for about 10-15 minutes or to desired tenderness.

I forgot to mention that you can crumble pan fried bacon pieces over them when you take them out of the oven. The bacon gives them an extra boost of flavor.

Opps. The uncured ham for my son is uncured ham nuggets. They are cute. They take a bit longer to cook then my packs of uncured spiral sliced ham but not much. We'll see what he thinks.

I had just been getting a bit of room in the freezers. That space is gone now.

Lamb chops did not arrive. I'm rather annoyed because they still have them up on the site for sale.

I got home to packages on the stoop. My rosehips arrived, which is good because now that I'm making my own tea mixes I'm going through them faster than normal. But yum.

Son's last late b-day gift arrived yesterday. That was just a hoot. He wanted that box open so much, even though he had no clue what it was. Just that I said it was for him. When I got it open, he grabbed the vacpacked monster cushion and took it to his room. I then assembled the rest of the rocker chair. When I went to retrieve the cushion, he had put it across him bed. He's still not sure about it being in the rocker chair, and outside. I figure when the warmer weather starts to stay more, and his pool is back up, it will see more use.

Last year I made son a sprinkler play area. He loved it but it sent the water bill through the roof, even when I limited water flow. It cost more than the expense would have been for the chlorine, new chlorine dispenser, and new pool ladder. So his pool is coming back this year. I am currently clearing the area for the pool. I've been considering putting the privacy surround back up around the pool, but honestly, I don't think it's necessary. So the surround will be cut and stitched to fit one of the last sections of fence that doesn't have privacy cloth. The shade sail will go back up though. That actually provided him with some extra privacy from nosey neighbors. I want to put his misters back up, but I think I'll attach them to the shade sail. All I have to figure out is how to connect his sprinkler to the pool's water system.
