Took the taxes to the preparer, had therapy, dropped off some squash at the food bank, hit one grocery store. I spent the afternoon in my apothecary, starting some tinctures and trying to put it back together. That was so good for me! Smelling the herbs while grinding them was..... really nice.

I woke up during the night with awful pain in my left shoulder. More inflammation, and my right knee still hasn't healed completely. I have an appointment to see my rheumatologist, Monday. I'm pretty sure I'll get another course of Prednisone and a steroid injection in my knee. That'll be fun!

I'm doing laundry this morning. I was hoping it would be warm enough to hang outside to dry, but it's not. Also, getting ready to can up more ground beef. It's been almost a year (May), since I bought my electric pressure canner. I've worked it hard, and still loving it. All the little pint jars full of meat looks really nice sitting on the shelves in the pantry. I'm sure all of you agree. I've had to stack some cases in the pantry floor, but they are all still looking good, too. I put thick cardboard between the cases.

My walking onions and chives are going crazy! I plan to weed the onion bed later this afternoon. Chives need cutting, too. I want to transplant some of the chives into another planter box. Tomato and pepper seedlings are doing good, too. I hope to get enough tomatoes to can a few more cases of those, so we'll be planting lots of them. Bell and banana peppers, too. I start green beans, squash, and cucumber seeds directly in the ground, once it's warm enough.

More bad weather possible for tomorrow night. I hope it doesn't develop here. We got a text from our water dept. last night letting us know that their power was back on, and the generators are no longer needed. DS got their power back last night, too.

Everyone seems to be really busy.

I canned 40 lbs of chicken breast on Monday, that along with the 40 lbs I canned at the end of the year and on the shelf makes me feel better. I’m still tired!

Tuesday, I could tell little granddaughter wasn’t feeling the best and then she started running a fever. After several phone calls and text messages we managed to get her in to be seen by the doctor. Poor little girl had both an ear infection and strep along with a really croupy cough.

Yesterday, we found out for sure that we have termites UGH! We’re thinking when the house was built and the people doing the spraying, neglected to come back and treat under the front and back porches. It seems that the damage isn‘t too bad (I hope) and is only in a small area. They are supposed to be back next week to treat, then we’ll go from there.

Granddaughter is back today and feeling much better, she brought over some of her animal Plego’s as she calls her Lego’s, like she doesn’t have a plenty of toys here already LOL. I need to tackle the fridge today and plan supper on what’s in there needing to be used.

Sherree~ We’ll be under the gun again too with the weather. Stay safe.

Prayers up for all of you and prayers up for all the states/areas dealing with weather and the aftermath, train derailments, helicopter crashes, etc. And many extra prayers going up for the absolute evil that’s going on in our country and in my state this week.

Oh, I hate termites! We have a wood frame house. The owners before we bought it said that he had been keeping the house termitid. We took him at his word, but it didn't take long to find out that he hadn't. Before any major damage was done, we called and had it professionally done ourselves. From then on, Cary has done it with professional stuff every Spring. He always bought it at the feed and ranch store in Amory (The store got wiped away in the tornado) It's just been too wet, lately, for him to do it. That's a project that's coming up as soon as we have a dry spell, and he can get to it. He's been busy this morning with all this firewood, splitting and stacking.

I'll be praying for you, too, in the coming storms.

Name of stuff please? I would happily add that to my ant spray routine.

It's Bifen TI. It's good stuff. Since he's been using it, we haven't seen one termite. Been using it for years. You have to get it at a farm and ranch store. I don't know if you can get it at Lowe's or not.
OH! I thought I had to buy it separate but I checked the bottle of what I use. It's in that. Cool! One less thing to worry about. And means that I've been treating for termites without realizing it.

kyrsyan

Has No Life - Lives on TB
It's a liquid, and you have to dig a shallow trench all the way around the base of your foundation, then pour it in the trench. It's really potent stuff.
Hmmm.... that's a different application. And I've see that. Okay. I may add that as a once a year and then keep doing the other the way I am for 2 to 3 times a year. I know where to order it online but didn't think about the possibility that the farm stores would have it.

OH! They have it as granules as well.

I lived in several different wooden houses through the years in New Orleans and I hated when I would see termites swarm. We live in a tin can now so no issues with them.

The babies didn't make it, sad.

I only did a partial section in the living room yesterday, My bissel filter was full though and had to been emptied, man, that was a lot of crap in it, big dead dust bunnies.

Bible study last night was more of a discussion on current events than studying verse, all about the trans crap.

Yeah. I've got a family member who lived in a mobile home. One day, he leaned up against the door frame in a room. It caved in with him. Termites had eaten it up. Upon inspection of the whole house, all they could do was to do a major remodeling. By the time it was finished, they had a whole new house.

Not only is there wood in mobile homes, but we have three added on rooms, two are very large. I imagine DH would recognize termite damage.
Judy, on Sunday we were having Sunday lunch/dinner with the family on the dining table side of the kitchen when oldest DD noticed bugs crawling on the floor. We finally saw they were coming from a tiny crack in the window molding in our living room, it was only when DH took the bottom trim off the window that we saw the damage.

That's about the way it was for us when we found the damage to our house. We had no idea anything was going on, until I saw them around a window seal in my laundry room. Unless a house inspection for them is done on a regular basis, most people don't even know they have them until noticeable damage is done. We had an exterminator come out to inspect the whole house and treated when I saw them. From then on, Cary keeps a watchful eye out for them and treats the house on a regular basis. The man who came out to treat and inspect the house told Cary about the Bifen TI. Said it was the same thing they used.

Hi my sweet friends. Today’s prep has been comms. We spent the afternoon with a family who is part of a larger group that has comms worked out. Good outcome of that endeavor. We don’t have good comms now! So we know for sure that we will need assistance! I transplanted some stuff today and will continue tomorrow. Granddaughter celebrates 16th birthday this weekend! Our collective heart is heavy as I am sure yours is. We continue to pray and prepare.

With the prediction for severe weather Friday evening/overnight, I spent the morning cleaning my tornado safety area, checking lamp/lantern/radio batteries are still good and other variously bits and pieces needed to get everything set. A lot of spiders got vacuumed off the ceiling and walls. Temps tomorrow are forecast to hit 71º during the day and drop to 29º at night which by itself is not a good sign, but when even the newspaper is warning of dangerous storms, well, it's time to pay attention!! I have a suitcase with clothing, towels and toiletries which I keep in the safety area that I also checked which is good because the jeans and bra are both too small!! I also need to remember to take a coat downstairs.

Tomorrow I will do laundry and prepare various things that I will take to the basement should we get a warning. I have several plastic crates which I put stuff in and leave it at the top of the stairs for quick removal to basement should an active watch or warning be announced.

I have two weeks left of therapy and am doing my best to learn all the exercises so that I can continue at home. I have been doing them at home all along, but when I stop going to therapy, I want to be sure I'm doing everything correctly at home. I've broken it down into three sessions (1) standing (2) sitting and (3) laying on the floor. It's a lot for an old lady and much better to not try to do all in one session!!

In reading through all the posts someone mentioned putting up a swimming pool. If this is a regular pool, your insurance and/or local ordinances may require you to have a fence. I had a friend that lived in the middle of nowhere whose insurance company insisted on the fence which they could not afford so ended up removing their above ground pool. They were sad since their four teenagers really enjoyed it.

It makes me so sad, but I'm continuing to empty jars of home canned beans of various sorts. I can't eat them and no one wants someone else's home canned foods so I'm dumping them. I just found another bunch of bean soup that I'd forgotten about. Still, it's more practical to get rid of them and empty up shelf space for what I can eat. I've NEVER had so many empty canning jars.

I'm the one with a pool, and it is behind a fence. For multiple reasons.

Took friend to hospital for a medical procedure yesterday. That upset son because hospital is big scary place. We went back to friend's house to wait which threw him off a bit more because I was there instead of friend. He was so upset that he wouldn't eat and he was working his way into a migraine.

Then we went to get friend from the hospital about 4 hours later. Son started getting upset again, and then was really happy when he saw friend coming out. When we got back to friend's house and all of us went in, suddenly all was right with his world and he was laughing and smiling. And he finally ate. We gave it about an hour for him to adjust and then packed the car to come home.

And pack the car it was because I had groceries delivered while I was at his house. So the month's worth of groceries to load up. I was exhausted by the time we got home and I unloaded the van. Fortunately, because I knew there wasn't much freezer space, most of the items could be left in the bags to be handled today.

I wasn't the only exhausted one. Son pretty much crashed in his bed. And then got annoyed with me when he was ready to sleep and I hadn't come in for the bedtime routine.

I started using the foot massager again because feeling in my feet has gone wonky again. But I have to wait until right before it's time for bed because I crash afterwards. But it also helps me sleep really well and deeply. I've actually been having wild dreams.

Oh, and son used words with someone new yesterday. Just yes/no but that's a big step for him and very rare. He doesn't have many words and he doesn't use them often, much less with people other than friend or me.

I didn't sleep well last night - finally managed to get an hour or so in before Hubby started getting ready for work around 0430 and the noise woke me up - so I'm a little cranky and thinking of going back to bed after I feed the inside cats if this cup of coffee doesn't help.

Looks like we are under a storm warning for most of the day - thunderstorms with rain, hail, and damaging winds. Not under the tornado watch yet; it's in the 'possible' column. There are puddles in the road so it must have rained sometime after 0320, which was the last time I looked at the clock before I woke up. I fed the outside cats when I got up at 0430, so they are good until supper time.

Dollar General also has their brand of the Swiffer type mopping pads. I have a list of certain items I toss in the cart when I need to spend a few more bucks to use my $5 off $25 coupon there; the mopping pads are one of those items as with the two younger grandsons and the grand-dog here frequently, they will always get used. I usually can't get the stockpile over 3 packages this time of year

I got a generic refillable swiffer like thing a few years ago. I like it better. I can use my own cleaner. It came with reusable cleaning pads, and I can make more if needed.

Before that, I had cut down some microfiber cloths so I could just push them into the slots on the swiffer and use for dusting or general cleaning.

Somewhere I have the steps for taking some microfiber clothes and turning them into washable dusters. This thread reminded me of that. I'll have to pull those and get that made. There are some areas that need a dusting. And I can get a cheap mop handle to fit and give me a longer reach when I need it.

I've decided I'll order the bug granules. After the first mow and weedeating this year, I'll dispense then in the "bug barrier" zone I have between my plantings and the house. It is a 3 foot wide area which is left empty. And all the plantings are planned so that, even at full growth, the plants won't be in that area. One of the long term plans is to put concrete pavers in that area to keep down weeds.

But first I have to work on the shallow French drain to help keep water from flowing under the house during storms. I've gotten on section of that done and it has helped that area a lot. But I can only dig so many feet of one foot deep trench a year. Not to mention the cost of gravel to fill it.

I got everything done, yesterday, that I had planned to do, except transplanting some chives. The planter is ready, but Mom wants some. I'll wait about transplanting, until I go to visit her. That way, I can dig some for her, too. My garlic is almost waist high! I had planned to put mulch around the walking onions, today, since they got weeded, yesterday. It's raining, so that won't get done, today. More severe weather for us coming in later this afternoon. No watches have gone up, yet, except for a wind advisory.

We don't have anything planned for today, except watching for the storms. I already have my radar open on the computer screen. We don't have a storm shelter or basement, but we do have a safe room where we go. Everything is ready in there. If our house took a direct hit, the room wouldn't help much, though. We hunker down as much as we can and trust God to protect us. He's never failed us, and we are so very grateful.

Because of the storm threat, later, I'm just planning sandwiches for supper, tonight. Egg, ham, and cheese sandwiches with hash browns from the pantry. Our camp stove is ready if we lose power.

We are praying for everyone in the path of the storms.

I didn't think we were supposed to have rain today but it looks like we will this evening. Sherree, I pray you are spared heavy weather.

Thank you, Judy. The track of this storm system might take it a bit north this time. Tupelo and Amory are still in the severe threat area, though. It was a week ago, today, that Tupelo and Amory were hit. There wasn't much damage in Tupelo, because the tornado went slightly north. Amory is a different story. Lots of folks still don't have power and water. The cleanup is just beginning to be done.

We watched on tv as Biden and wifey got off the plane in Jackson, MS a while ago. LOL, our Govenor Reeves wasn't there to greet him, LOL. No one, except the very liberal mayor of Jackson was there. I thought to myself, if that had been Trump getting off that plane, there would have been crowds waiting to greet him. Biden is here to see all the damage, but I had just as well he hadn't shown up at all. What a disgrace he is to be in our state.

There is an organization called Grindstone Ministeries that is working in Rolling Fork, MS.

He's talking about what is not going on with any other organization in the area, apparently no one else. Grindstone is on their 5th day.

I listen to Bear fairly regularly. He's a partner with Mongo in some things.

There are several organizations in Amory helping, but I don't know if Grindstone is one of them.

Hit a couple of thrift stores in the last week. Ours don't offer great deals, but I did manage to get some pants in the next 2 sizes for the grandkids, a couple of shirts, and a jacket for each in the next size up. I also found a 2 gallon water cooler (insulated) and a couple of saucepans (I have a collection building of camping type cooking pots).

All three grandkids have birthdays from today until next Saturday, so I am busy with parties and the like. Not a lot of prepping going on, but keeping an eye out for any deals.

I bought 2 really cute little saucepans with lids, too. I realized I didn't have any small pots to use on the wood stove a few weeks ago. I found mine at Walmart. They are just big enough to hold a can of veggies of some kind.

sometimes I am my own worst enemy. When we were cleaning out the big pantry I had two 5# bags of regular corn meal. I was so tired of packaging thing up that I gave them away. Now I've decided that I want to make regular corn bread, DH loves the jiffy mix, but its not as healthy as using regular corn meal. Although I may have some out in the cabin in jars, have to check.

Walmart is out of it again. Baaa

Walmart is out of cornmeal?!!!! I've got that on my grocery list for Tuesday. I hope our Walmart still has it. I go through a lot of cornmeal, since Cary loves my cornbread. I've got a lot stored away, but when I use up a 5# bag, I replace it.

We're under a wind advisory until 7 a.m. tomorrow. Currently winds are 37 mph. steady with gusts forecast up to 60 mph. We're also under a winter weather advisory for snow which plus wind equals blizzard. Radio says under tornado watch until 7 p.m. this evening. Spring in the Midwest is such fun!! Praying there will be no more tornado deaths from this round of storms.

I did one load of wash this morning which is folded and put away and a second load is in the washer. I also got my shower after lunch since the weather tends to turn hinky as evening approaches. It got up to 70º but has now dropped to 62º was sunny and now very cloudy. Tomorrow is a ladies luncheon at the church replacing this month's prayer breakfast. I asked a friend to attend so am praying I'm able to go. With colitis one never knows from day to day and sometimes hour to hour whether or not you can leave the house.

I baked a peach cobbler and a dozen Rhodes dinner rolls this morning. The can of peaches needed to be used and the rolls were part of what I purchased for Christmas so also needed to be used. I'm striving to use preps in a timely manner so that there is no waste. Throwing out jar after jar of home canned beans is traumatic enough!

I've made a big dent in getting the living room spring cleaned. I still have a few things to clean, but the lions share is done. Today I cleaned around DH's chair and table, there was so much dust that DH had to finish the floor in that area, the dust was just to much for me. He finished up with the Bissel and I wet swiffered it. I didn't get his side table or the his cart cleaned off, but I did get under them. I've got those tables and two small areas left to go.

The swiffer pads get dirty quickly, there is a lot of dirt and constant influxes of sand around here. I may eventually have to go back to a mop and bucket. I guess nothing really beats soap and water.

Its getting hot in the house the last few days. At what temperature do you turn the ac on. We have no ventilation in the house. I would prefer to wait until the end of next week to turn it on, that's when the electric meter gets read again. Its 83 in the house right now.
