I still have all my teeth and hope to keep it that way! I am proactive about all health issues and started twice yearly dental checkups just a year ago. Before that it was annual.

Seriously, with SHTF looming closer and closer, I want to enter that shitz in the best physical condition possible for an old lady. I can foresee lack of any sort of medical care or very limited availability as part of SHTF. And if available, possibly beyond ability to pay.

My late dh started with partial dentures and ended up with full dentures. Very expensive. He was told when in his early 30's that he had paradental disease so decided not to go to the dentist anymore. His thinking was if I'm going to lose my teeth I'm not paying for dental visits. Truly a bad decision. Also, he was a smoker for many years and a junk food addict neither of which are good for teeth. On the other hand, we sacrificed for our children to have good dental care. My ds never took care of his teeth (I swear never even brushed) and had dentures by age 35. Girls have done better.

for nuke primers you want to start with two of the best ever composed - most subsequent books come from these two >>>

chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/http://www.ki4u.com/nwss.pdf

Thank you kindly. I downloaded both.

Thank you kindly. I downloaded both.

here's another good selection to download and pick thru when convenient >> some info is totally out of date with advances in nuke weapon delivery & accuracy - but most of the civilian info is still good

there's a couple under "nuclear" that didn't make the other list >> Library-Survival-Individual

SB, prayers for good things. Medical issues are rough.

Thank you. We both sort of feel very overwhelmed right now, but we'll be ok.

I'm getting new sheets washed and dried, today. I opened a new set, yesterday, and I always wash them before use. I've got a ton of ironing to do, too.

I'm having to rethink my cooking habits. I've got a chuck roast in the crockpot with a packet of Lipton beefy onion soup. That's all the salt he can have, so I need to find something to go with it that doesn't have any potassium or more protein in it. Bread he can have.

My teeth have always been important to me, up until a few years ago I was able to manage dental work but it is what it is, I'm 76. Other than that I don't have any chronic health issues that require medication, my diet is more specific than most. DH just turned 80 and he's on a blood thinner, mild BP meds and nothing else. For the shape he's in he does very well. And his health is better that it was when we met 10 years ago, I've changed his diet a lot. They thought after he had the surgery on his pancreas and his spleen removed that he would be diabetic, but he's not. God is good all the time.

We are off to urgent care at the va, my rash is driving me crazy. I spoke to the pharmacist at the VA yesterday and she said I would be safe taking what they give me for my rash, including the steroid shot the will most likely give me. And she did say they did not put the mrna crap in the annual flu shot this year, although we don't take it. She said there are many people that feel the way I do about shots. I'm not afraid of getting a shot, just cautious about what may be in it.

Let me tell ya'll. Trying to find out all the foods that Cary can eat is a nightmare. Not much left for him to eat, except lettuce, green beans, a little protein, and a few fruit varieties! Almost everything he loves to eat is on the naughty list. If the food has salt, phosphorous, or potassium, he can't have it. That involves a lot of food. It's not a matter of not eating carbs, sweets, or non-GMO, it's about the natural chemicals in the food itself.

Caught up on laundry. The flannel sheets (new) and duvet cover was washed as well. Those go on the bed in a couple of weeks. All Christmas shopping done except for 2 gift cards. Stopped in Ollies and Aldis today for shopping. DIdn't need much, just restocking a bit. More ground beef for the freezer, cheese, and some fun stuff for the holidays. Just spent an hour on the phone with a client and now I am in a bad mood and have a nasty headache :( Can't wait for full retirement.

Podiatrist is done now as I don't have to go back again.

I went to Aldi and Fareway and spent most of my December grocery budget. $51.43 at Aldi and $31.23 at Fareway. To be honest $11.48 at Fareway was 24 cans of Pepsi on sale. Only meat was one pound of ground beef. I was careful to stick to my list and put a few items back on the shelf after considering and deciding not good value. Didn't even look at chips or snack items. Fareway had the frozen pizza I like on sale for $3.98 so I bought two. Also, 2 dozen eggs at $1.24 per which is fairly low for current times. I like eggs so at this price they make cheap protein.

A resident of senior complex passed away this week and they are planning the funeral for our church. Sounds like I'll be working there a few hours, if we have to serve a meal.

My dining room table has a wonky leg that seems to need to be repaired each time the table is pulled out when family is here. I glued match sticks in the hole and now need to cut them flush so I can replace the screw that keeps falling out. This is the third time I've had to do this. I have a good dining table in the basement but its smaller and won't fit everyone. If this fix doesn't work, I will use the smaller table because I don't plan to buy another one. I guess if I could find a good used table and chairs that I might reconsider.

Tomorrow is the bi-monthly food pantry. I typically try not to shop until after the pantry, but since I had to drive to town for the doctor, I shopped rather than making another trip.

We went to the Va and I got my steroid shot for my rash, the doctor agreed with me that it must be contatact dermitis. The ointment I've been using is fine for this. she said stronger that what she was going to give me. The itching is greatly improved. But I have gotten a headache and what I usually take is not helping. so I took some equate head ache relief that has tylenol, aspirain and caffeine in it, maybe that will help. I stayed home from church tonight.

The weather was nice with lots of sunshine, rain all day tomorrow, hopefully, we need it.

SB I'm praying for you and Cary, glad to hear his blood work was better. Having health issues is not fun.

Another day. Private client that has been on my case because they want everything prepared by mid-Jan keeps not providing needed information. I already had to create a "no receipt" account. Today's information request was responded to with a "out of town for two weeks" response. Oh, and they haven't given me anything past August...

Tomorrow is follow up with the Oncological GYN. Lists written. We'll see what happens.

Waited all day for FedEx package. They normally deliver by 4 or so. I was beginning to wonder if someone was going to try last year's nonsense again but they showed up just before 8. This one is the package of yarn for son's knit tube. Tomorrow's package is nephew's gift.

If Doc visit occurs fast enough tomorrow, I can hopefully slide into Sam's Club. Actually have a really large list for the first time in a long time. Trying to fill in a few supplement gaps.

Mailed off friend's gift package this morning. Hopefully it will arrive on time. I can't wait. This is one of the friends that truly appreciates homemade. And that box is crammed full with homemade stuff.

Gift for two unknowns at Christmas will be homemade cookies. Only one food allergy that is easy to avoid.

Dad is helping with two items for son. One will be a lap tray that he can take with him. This will let him play with his putty in a way that won't normally get it everywhere. And it has a lip to keep the putty from dripping off the edge.

The second will be a tray for his wheelchair. I've been looking for a couple of years but every one that I find will not survive a son headbutt in a meltdown. And I can't justify the prices for something that will get broken in the first meltdown. At least with this one, it will be sized precisely to him and his chair. And we're putting a drink holder as well.

And maybe while I'm making those measurements, I'll take the ones for making a bag for the back. Although that's still up in the air. We don't typically need it for his things. But a net bag would be helpful when shopping.

We have been splitting firewood. The tree we had taken down that was struck by lightning was actually not healthy. It had some soft wood in the center of the rounds we were splitting. I am glad it is removed. The other tree is very solid. We filled one empty row in the shed and have started on the row in front of that one. This will be wood for 3-4 years from now. We try to stay ahead because we can't always work on stuff like that. We have quite a bit still to cut to length and split.

I did some shopping on line. All my packages have arrived. Most is Christmas presents. I found Augason Farm cheese powder on the Black Friday deals. I got a can for each of our kids and one for us. I hope it is good. It was under $14 a can which is a super deal. If we really like it I will wish I had bought more.

We have to go to town today. We have some errands to run, then get daughter's kids and bring them here for the afternoon. That let's our daughter get some stuff done.

Have a blessed day everyone.

I'm getting caught up on household chores, today. I didn't do much of anything, yesterday, because I surfed the web most of the day. Laundry, dusting, and sweeping, plus cooking, today.

Since Cary's diet has changed, somewhat, I'm going over my monthly grocery list. Adding more things he can have plenty of and making changes for the things he can't have. It's not going to cause a drastic change in what I cook. Portion size and how often he eats it really is what matters on the foods he needs less of. We can make it work.

We won't know for sure about the kidney disease, until he sees the Nephrologist. Still don't have an appointment, yet. With Cary having those 2 episodes of UTI's that lead to sepsis and hospitalizations, plus the surgery to remove 1/3 of his right kidney due to cancer, I can see how kidney disease could have got started. We won't know anything concrete, until the doctor visit. We're praying that the diagnosis will change for the better.

More rain moving in late this afternoon and tomorrow. We're still under a burn ban, though. Cary did slip and burn our paper garbage the other day, but he did it right after a good rain.

And today has just been full of fun so far.

It is cancer. Early stage one. I'm still mentally processing things. There is no longer any argument over having a hysterectomy. The questions now are, one, is there cancer anywhere else and, two, due to the size of the uterus, which method can be used for extraction. The simplest method is not an option.

I burned off the physical jitters with a Sam's Club run which I pushed myself to do as fast as I physically could. Going to pick up son, make a bunch of phone calls, and then get home and work.

rain rain glorious rain. Looks like all day and into the night.

My rash is looking better and itching less. And other things that the steriod shot could help seems to be helping. That's nice.

Dh has gone to wm to get a hair cut. Looks like the hair salon is going the way of the nail salon in no more at wm.

Not much else going on, a couple of loads of laundry and dishes.

Did a pickup order for Walmart basically supplements and otc we needed resupplied. Plus chicken thighs.
Started on the pantries again, cleaning and rearranging.
We had 4 killing freezes this week so we picked about 12 lbs of green tomatoes. I'm going to can the large ones for fried green tomatoes and make relish with smaller ones. We still have turnips that are very good as are the greens.
The rest of the day is general cleaning and tossing.
Praying for krysyn and all who need them. Stay safe everyone.

Today I decorated. All by myself. Quiet. Just what I needed. As I put together the Nativity I was just overcome with thankfulness for God's faithfulness and mercy.
Our sweet daughter had surgery on Tuesday. Heart condition gave us some tense moments but we are home and she is healing. Probably harder on me than her!
We are still eating out of the garden and continuing to clean up yard and barn. Preps changed a bit to include more illness items. We will start spraying orchard next month and hope to have everything cleaned up by then.
Sherree we are praying for you and Cary. We know what it is like to get a gut punch when you aren't expecting it. Kyrsyan you too are in our prayers. I know what it is like to be responsible for the care of a child that no one else can really provide care for. But God know all the ins and outs of it all and knows just what each of us needs. Today for me it was quiet!

It was much warmer last night, had to have my little fan by my chair on all night. And its going to be well into the 60's today. We've definitely had mild colder weather this fall.

The rain stopped, got a good bit but it did not last as long as predicted.

Finally got my soup cooked, I put it in the crock pot over night to simmer.

We got some good overnight rainfall, and it's still drizzling this morning. Our temps are bouncing up and down. We're in warm-up mode for the next few days. Supposed to be 70, today. Will have to let the wood heater go out, but it was needed last night.

I've been talking a lot to our resident PA about Cary's kidney issue. He has greatly alleviated a lot of my fear and anxiety over it all. Cary, too. He may not have kidney disease after all, but we'll wait for our own doctors to make a complete assessment as time goes on in the next few weeks.

Just regular household chores, today. I might set out a few Christmas decorations, too. We never do a tree, though.

Tired. Got the laptop ordered. It has nice specs and I got the warranty. It should work just fine for what I need, now and in the future.

Work today was calm and easy. And that was worth gold.

Fitbit quit on me. Lithium battery. It just stopped holding charge. So I'm seeing if the old one will charge. And next week I'll order a replacement battery for the newer one and see if I can install it. Figure that attempting to replace the battery is better than just tossing it.

I'm heading to bed early. Son had me up at 2 am and it's catching up to me now. Night night.

Stopped by Dollar Tree and Walmart, mainly to get little things I need for my upcoming trip and for stocking stuffers. No prep stuff this time.

Changed out the second gas can with new stabilized gas. Two weeks ago when I did the first can it was $2.92 a gallon. Now it is $3.19 a gallon. No real reason I can see for a 27 cent jump, but all the gas stations here went to $3.19 on the same day. Usually there is a few cent difference between brands, but not right now.

We had storms move through overnight last night, and it's still pouring rain this morning. I was going to bake a cake today, but the weather just isn't right. I told Cary if I went ahead and made it while it's raining, it would turn into a flat pancake, once I took it out of the oven. I don't bake when it rainy and humid. It's very humid outside right now, too. It's already 63 degrees.

I'll spend the day getting the house ready for home fellowship tomorrow. I set out a few Christmas decorations, yesterday, and might do more today.

Resident PA told me not to do anything with changing Cary's diet. Just watch the salt content and drink plenty of water. So, I'm not making any changes in my grocery shopping list for Monday's shopping trip. I will be reading labels a lot more closely, though. High salt and potassium content need to be avoided.

Awake and moving. Long sleep for both son and I.

I got the old Fitbit charged and connected. I really only lost one function that I rarely use. It has all the rest of the functionality.

It's raining so working in the garden is not happening right now. I may be able to do some stuff there later today.

Has been cool or downright cold for last 3 days. Went to nursing home Wednesday and celebrated MIL'S birthday. She clearly remembers her first date with late FIL and talked about it. Spent Thursday training for new remote job that starts Monday. I hate starting new jobs. I tend to remain at one job for years before changing. Online reviews about new employer are a mixed bag. Praying it all goes smoothly.

Power outage yesterday. All day. Tried to take advantage of it and rest but I tend to be in motion most of time so it wasn't easy. Laptop was fully charged so ended up playing some games on it. After power returned we went to check pipes at MIL'S home. Had some 20 deg nights. Water was still dripping and place was reasonably warm.

Went thru a few more things. Found a tub that we had missed beneath a desk. It contained drawings from the kids when they were little and all the cards we all gave them over the years. Snapped some pics of things and sent them to kids. There were so many memories in that box! Will be putting all of it in nice binders later. Reminded me that I need to finish getting my kids pics, etc. Into binders and give them to the kids. When my mom died I sorted all the pictures received over the years by family and returned those picture packages to a cousin from each family.

Catching up on laundry and cleaning today. Gotta mop when I can find a time DH isn't underfoot. Power has blipped 2x already. Made soups all week. Finished the last of them last night. Thinking hot sandwiches today before we go tidy up after all the plumbing.

Grands and greats coming to visit later. That should be fun.

Praying for everyone. It seems like life has cranked up the automatic pitching machine to turbo mode and is throwing high speed curve balls in every direction.

Praying for everyone. It seems like life has cranked up the automatic pitching machine to turbo mode and is throwing high speed curve balls in every direction.

Amen to that! Glad to see this week end, but next week promises to be just as challenging. It was really a mixed bag week - not all was bad, and I have a feeling the good and bad parts of it will be instrumental in the future few years. We shall see.

Went to a church bazaar today - picked up a couple grocery bags (we use reusable ones) and a cinnamon roll to go with the beef barley soup for lunch. Talked DH into just coming home for lunch instead of going out. The rest of today will be filled with making Christmas cookies to hand out. I don't know if I'll finish today or not, but I'm going to try.

Today was the produce pak day. I am trying not to buy things simply out of habit. I could have used a few things, but honestly, I"m trying to downsize our pantry some. I said some. I don't want to buy things just to end up throwing them out in a few years and wasting all the produce, time, and effort to preserve it.

Told DH today I feel in many areas of life that I'm on a roller coaster. I'm almost to the top of the big hill, a couple more clicks to go, and I can see the drop ahead. I don't know if I'm gonna ride it to the bottom or fly off. In one case, I have the option to get off the ride, but I haven't made a decision about that. Sigh.

The roofers are here today. I will glad to have that complete. But it is noisy. Today is a birthday party for the grandson that mashed his toe. We will have to go after the roofers leave. But I am sure he will still accept his present even if it is late.

Our daughter that was laid off in September from her work from home job. She had her profile and resume on Indeed. A recruiter contacted her for a remote job. It sounded great. Then things didn't sound right the more she talked to them. She ended up calling the company. They had no contact with a recruiter by that name. It was a total fishing scam to try to get her bank info. The previous company she worked for sent all her equipment to her. Her computer came with all the programs she needed. The scam company said they were sending a computer but also an expense check to pick up some things she would need. That was a huge red flag. She has since deleted her resume from Indeed since they got her contact information from there. They did not get her banking information.

We are still finding stuff we don't want or need. Hubby turned loose of some shirts that have been too small for years. Our son wants them for work shirts. I took a load to the sheltered workshop this week. I am still looking to lighten the load around here. I send pictures to the kids and if they don't want it, it goes in the donations box.

When we were out shopping Thursday, I found a big container of great value granulated garlic and Mrs. Dash lemon pepper. I had been looking for awhile for both. I found them at Walmart Neighborhood Market. I messaged our daughter to ask if she needed anything. She was doing a pick up at Kroger and they had no whole milk, only 1%. So we got her milk and saved her a stop.

I guess I should find something productive to do. Have a blessed day everyone.

My soup that I cooked a couple of days ago and left in the crock pot over night was over cooked. I added a can of corn and diced potatoes (I don't care for the sliced potatoes in this soup) and a container of broth. It tastes much better. After it has simmered for awhile and cooled off I'm going to put it in containers in the freezer. DH didn't want anymore but I do.

I haven't used my little candle holder yet and was trying to figure out what to put under it on the table. I rooted around in the cabinets and found a small pizza stone, this will be perfect. so now I can get into my teas.

The rain has passed us by, we did get a lot the other day so that's fine. Temps are still mild, I got out of my flannel pjs last night and put on a regular night gown.

I've gotten all but two of my subscribe and save items for November and am trimming down my list for December. I'm only buying things we currently use, just like to have a little more of some things.

I'm putting together another box of food for my young friend with 7 children.

Hubby and I have had a way more productive day today than I expected.

*Two loads of laundry done and put away.
*Dog bedding washed.
*We defrosted our big upright freezer and have emptied and organized the house fridge/freezer and the garage fridge/freezer. (This was WAY overdue!)
*Foods in freezers inventoried and meals planned for a week +.
*Two slow cookers of soup going with veggies to use up from the freezer clean out (will give us 15-16 portions)
*House vacuumed

I am ready to chill and relax. Felt good to get it done though.

Survived the dentist preparing tooth for cap which will arrive in three weeks. The bill was $1,613.00 on top of the $363.00 for last week's cleaning and x-rays!!!!!!!!! I'm seriously considering going with a different dentist even if it means driving 25 miles to get there. A friend told me that she paid $100 less last month for cleaning and x-rays. The last cap I got (less than 8 years ago) was $1,000 less than this one so that's some serious inflation. It's no wonder so many people are walking around with a mouthful of rotted teeth.

Today we had a Christmas luncheon for the ladies of the church and friends. It was lovely. The table decorations alone were worth going and the food was even better. After church tomorrow I need to bake brownies for the funeral dinner we're serving on Monday.

I walked to church this a.m. and it was comfortable. Two hours later when I walked home it was COLD. Snow in the forecast overnight.

There is a lot of sickness going around from flu to covid to colds, coughs, sinus infections. Just general misery. I have been out and about constantly lately so hope I don't catch anything. My sister is recovering from covid. She lives in Des Moines and says its bad there too.
