Morning all. Sipping on coffee now as I think about the day ahead.
I am going to pay bills/ examine budget for second half of the month and get meals planned for the week.
I will also get a little work done on the pantry conversion (from shelves in bedroom to closet near kitchen). I am trying to work on it 15 minutes daily (Slow and steady).
Today is mainly “doing nothing” and relaxing. It has been a busy week and taking some time to restore myself is needed.

Thank You, Judy, for getting the thread started :rs:

I overslept, which isn't a normal thing for me. Two Junior Football League games - cousin's son on the opposing team in the lightweight game and middle grandson in our heavyweight game - and each team won, so that was nice. Those were followed by driving on the interstate - in construction zones and in the dark (eek!!) and a trip to DQ yesterday wore me out! I actually feel more sorry for daughter - I got to fall in bed when I got home - she got conned into agreeing to play 'Chalk the Corner' with a gang of the grandson's friends - and more than a few adults  - once they made it home.

I only have two prep plans for today:
#1 - Pick tomatoes as soon as the dew dries off
#2 - Inventory the pantry and make a shopping list to bring it back up where it needs to be.

I do need to call daughter later - I'm pretty sure she talked me in to staying with the boys some upcoming weekend; I'm just not sure which weekend it was. I'd better get it on the calendar before I forget.

Well, I'd better get off my fanny and so I can go feed the indoor cats, and then get a load of purple clothing run through the washer so they are ready for next Saturday.

Take care all; stay safe out there!

Cary paid the rest of our bills for the month, yesterday. After I go grocery shopping tomorrow, I will have used up all my budget money for the month. I'll be broke, until the first of the month. If I do have any budget money left over, which is doubtful, it will go into our emergency fund.

I do have a small project for Cary. He might get it done today. I want a small clothesline run along the end of the covered part of our back deck. The part of the deck just outside the back doors have a roof over it. I don't hang laundry on the big clothesline during the colder months. I can't stand to be outside in the cold. Having this small one on the deck will help me a lot, especially when it rains, and I don't have to go all the way out to the big clothesline in the cold. My wooden drying racks take up a lot of room in the house, and this will keep me from having to set them up all throughout the house during the winter, too. I try my best to never use my clothes dryer.

Better morning. My body still isn't happy. It is still making parts of my house look like a murder scene. But not quite as bad as yesterday. If it doesn't settle by tomorrow, I'll call the doc.

Friend came up and ran a camera under the house. No busted pipes. He ran the drain snake through the tub drain and got it mostly flowing again. The problem is styrofoam from son destruction. Small pieces are tangled with hair in the pipes. It's going to take time for it all to flush out.

We did discuss getting a new tub drain with a built in hair catcher. And I will probably buy it this week. We had a tubshroom for the longest time but son pulled it and hid it. Now they make drains with screen and plug built together.

In between rest breaks, I'm cleaning. The house is driving me nuts and I'm done with this. I started the day in the kitchen. And then started laundry again. Then just moving to different areas and getting things put away.

Yay! Cary got my new clothesline fixed. I have enough room for a second one, but he will have to buy more hooks to screw into the posts, first. This should work out so good for me! I've been wanting this done for quite a while, and now it's done. The second line will be even better.

I'll be in Walmart, tomorrow, to do my grocery shopping. There were lots of empty spaces the last time I was there. To top it off, I picked up 2 large family packs of boneless rib eye pork chops, and one of them had rotten meat in it! It was oozing with a brown liquid that smelled like decomp! If that happens again, I'll not be going back there. I'm already looking at a new grocery store to shop at.

If you leave you will be missed, just ignore the peanut gallery.

I'm not saying anything more about it. If we left, it wouldn't have been by our choice. I've never been a sailor, so I guess I've lived a sheltered life, but I don't appreciate vulgarity of any kind directed towards me. What Christian woman would? But, it's not my forum.

I'm done with it.

One more comment about it, I'm beginning to not think things like that are funny. After my time in time out I'm careful what I say.

SB I have clotheslines along two sides of our patio. Comes in very handy. Our utility room has a door to outside. I attached two bars at top inside that I can hang about 8 items on each one. Except for underwear and socks I dry clothes 10 minutes and then hang. We are in dry climate.

My laundry room with double French doors open out onto a back covered porch that extends out to create our deck. It's all made in together. The whole deck isn't covered. A small double clothesline right outside the back doors are ideal for me during the winter and on rainy days. My large clothesline is way out in the backyard in a very sunny spot.

All I can say is that Dennis didn't kick us to the curb for our comments. I'll try and further refrain my comments. We would never leave here on our own. I just felt like Dennis was going to ban us, and that's the reason I wanted to say good-bye, before he did it. I'm glad he didn't.

I got another butane burner in. I already have a second one, but when the hurricane went through here at the end of August, I couldn't find it anywhere. I mean I looked EVERYWHERE! So I must have really hidden it well, which does me no good, so I ordered another one. It came today. It is one of my cooking backups in case everything goes down.

got a bit done today.... worked on the camper, picked and froze about a pound of elderberries. This is the first ones I have gotten off my plants, and it just makes me smile so much! Got a little painting done, a good dinner and cake made for DH's birthday later this week, and some herbal lysol (smudges with sage, sagebrush, juniper and lemon balm) made up.

The last few weeks have been crazy busy. I had to go to town three times to get my new computer, two Bible studies per week, too many phone calls, had to replace garage door opener, plus the usual daily stuff and garden. A funeral dinner for a good friend kept me busy for a couple days but I was thankful I was able to serve. Today was a potluck so that took about an hour to set up and a bit of time to clean up. Several of the younger women and two newcomers helped with clean up so that it went quicker than usual.

Today was special as we had a baptism at the lake. I think about a dozen were baptized. It was pretty chilly for those being immersed! In the sun and out of the wind it was too warm, but in the water, wet and with the breeze it must have been VERY COLD.

I'm starting to close the garden down. I got the sweet potatoes dug and, in the garage, curing before moving them to the basement. I canned 5 more pints of tomato juice. Today I pruned the tomatoes because anything blooming will not produce before frost so cut all that growth away. I've picked up and put out for trash two large garbage bags of walnuts and the ground is still covered. Squirrels are making their usual mess with them.

I took down the fence I had around the sweet potatoes and got that rolled up this afternoon. Rolling that was exhausting but I got it done and put away. I still have two shorter (length) fences around the beets and peppers that need to be taken down, rolled and stored. I might repurpose the one from the beets and plant some lettuce -- if it ever rains.

I pulled the early planted cucumber but the one planted in July and climbing on the cattle panels is still doing great. I picked the final watermelon so those vines are ready to be pulled and the cantaloupe seems to be about done. I don't think the remaining fruits will mature. The sun flowers also need to be taken down. I have a single potato plant still growing yet to dig. I bought a bag of potatoes that were not good so decided to plant one which has done great. Wish I'd planted a whole row instead of trashing the rest.

Since the weather has cooled off, I've been hanging clothes outside. I have good lines outside and with all the trees gone they are no longer in the shade. I have a gas dryer and the cost to run it is minimal, so I do not hesitate to use it. I also have lines in the basement, but the laundry room is upstairs so I'm not going to be carrying laundry to the basement unless I have no other choice. The basement lines are very nice although I need to replace the lines as they are quite frayed. I have new packages of line in my preps for both the basement and outside. I guard my clothespins and clothespin bag as if they were national treasures!

I've reorganized my preps into one area so that I can keep track of them. I'd like to get one of those single burn stoves as my old Coleman gas stove needs work or replaced. I'd rather cook over an open fire!!

I was planning on ordering some new winter clothes from Blairs but am now hesitating to do so. I mainly need sweatshirts and sweatpants. Most everything else I can find at thrift stores. I recently got a brand-new long sleeve knit shirt at the thrift store and so far have washed it twice and it's still too "scented" with Febreze or something similar for me to wear. I'm hoping one more wash will fix it. Typically, three washes make the scent low enough for pants, but I make need to go further for tops.

I absolutely hate the smell of Febreze!
I can't say for certain as I haven't tried it, but perhaps adding some Borax to the wash would help get rid of the smell. Maybe in a pre-soak?

I stock an extra ten cans of butane for mine and I have a back up propane stove and a grill on the deck.

Anna, I wouldn't hesitate to order from Blair. I've ordered from them for many years, and I've never had a canceled order. I'm waiting on an order right now, and I've received no notice that it's been canceled. I love Blair clothing. I can get almost anything I want from them in petite sizes that are a perfect fit for me. Their prices are reasonable, too.

We finished haying yesterday. For the year, we did a total of 953 square bales. That is a lot for us. Most I sold right off the fields. I only have 194 in the barn to sell. I get more for the barn hay, but it is more work for me. The last 55 are still on the trailer in the barn. I am not in any hurry to unload them. Maybe next week.

It was in the 50s this morning. So nice out there. The gardens are about done. We might get a little more if we get some rain. I need to get some canning done today. But I have to clean up the kitchen first. It is a wreck. I still have to dig sweet potatoes. I have not grown them in years. It looks like they have potatoes under there.

I have apples to make into sauce, apple juice to can, jelly to make, and I may can some of the muscidine juice. I have been freezing my paste tomatoes and will make salsa later.

I have to order some supplements for us. That is about all the preps for the week that we are buying. We just need to replace a few things we have used in meals that don't store long term.

We watched a YouTube video on the uses for goldenrod. It said it was good for everything urinary including kidney stones. Hubby is thinking about trying it for stones. I picked some leaves and have them drying. I need to pick a bunch more. I also need to read up on making salve from mullin root. It says it is soothing for back issues including disk injury. I worry about our health care collapsing. It is very hard to find good care.

Have a good day everyone.

I'm excited about shopping at a new grocery store, today. We'll be leaving to do that a bit later. After the bad experience with those spoiled pork chops at Walmart, I'm not buying meat there anymore. This new store is supposed to have the best meat around in my area for less than Walmart's price. Everyone I've talked to about this new store says they're never going back to Walmart for groceries.

I only need to pick up a few things to last us til the end of the month, but it will give me a chance to check them out for myself.

I stopped buying meat at walmart years ago, although I have liked the meat from Sam's. I haven't been to sams in a good while and let my membership expire.

I'm working on that big pile of clean laundry in the bedroom. I'm washing some flannel shirts I wore last winter, and I'm sure they will need to be ironed, ugh. I basically only wore them to church so they were not actually dirty, I put off washing them because of the need to iron them. I'm running out of hanging space in the closet so I'm going to have to make some decisions about moving some clothes to the handing racks in the she shed. I did buy some clear hanging bags to protect clothes I've hung out there. I'll put my smallest clothes out there as I'm stalled on my diet.

In an effort to rotate some canned goods out of my pantry, things I ended up not caring for, I'm going to start taking some foods to the church pot lucks. I've got Margaret Holmes okra and tomatoes and did not care for them. so I'll add some ground meat to it and add some Tony's. Maybe some one will eat it, and add garlic and onion powder to it too. The okra and tomatoes are still in date, I just didn't care for them, not at all like fresh.

Judy, have you considered taking the foods that you don't care for to a thrift store? The thrift store that Mom helps with is where she takes all the food she gets in her 2 monthly food boxes that she doesn't like or can't use. The thrift store gives it away to needy families. Just a thought. Cooking and taking it to church potlucks is a great idea, too.

Apparently, butchering 150 chickens (actually, 163, including the extra cockerels) on a weekend isn't the best idea even with 7 freezers. Who knew?! (There's been a difference of opinion lately on us making management decisions, so we've stepped back and are letting them handle all of it. So far, it's cost them a nice weanling calf who died of what I suspect was anaphylaxis).

So, I have to cook and can up at least 100# of necks and backs, plus the broth. I feed most of them raw to the dogs over the year, but Prince can't handle raw meaty bones anymore due to broken teeth, so he gets either a pint of cooked chicken or half a pint plus kibble daily. So, 30 cases of canned chicken isn't excessive... but it's a lot of work!

I had planned on digging potatoes early this week, but I apparently sprained my left shoulder trying to treat our mini mare, who has laminitis. Damn! I kept her 12 years with perfect hooves, but managing a mini's feed needs (minimal) with her companion, who thrives on lots of grass, ended up colliding.

Fortunately, we've been able to keep them within sight of each other with Ginger on hay in the barnyard and Bella in temporary pastures just outside. But she threw a fit when I was trying to pick out her back hooves while she was in acute pain, and apparently tweaked my rotator cuff. So, given our good weather report for a week, after a few possible light showers today, we'll hold off on the potatoes and get busy on chicken.

It's going to be a very busy week!

I did a major supplements order this morning for son. I normally do 6 months at a time. Last time, I ended up with almost 9 months. This time I'm going for a year. And because the funds were there, I ordered him some new varieties of cookies that are safe for him. And different candies. Things like that are not as easy to get locally anymore. They were for a while, but not anymore.

Last week I got refills for some of my supplements. I'll probably get more later this week. At least of the ones for my thyroid and anemia. After last week and this past weekend, I'm debating doubling up on the anemia ones for a week or so. And I'm going to have to restock feminine supplies as well. I went through a lot more than normal this past weekend. And there is a call into the doc's office. This is now day 5, which is just beyond excessive. But I'm not willing to go sit in an ER for most of the day because they don't consider it urgent.

This morning I got out and got the first protective layer on most of the ground contact boards for the garden storage. This afternoon is back to cleaning house. And I need to go figure out what the package is that I just got off the porch. Because I don't recognize the business name.

Son is hiding in my bed which means he's not feeling well. But no fever and he's not signaling headache or migraine. He did this a couple of weeks ago as well. I'm just going to go give him hugs for a bit and see if he can give me any more hints.

Going to put a retractable clothesline on the deck. Had a stationary one but the birds made a big poop station out of it.

Went to Amish farm today and stocked up on jelly and sweet potatoes. Hit the grocery store for a few things. Seems like I can't get out of grocery store without spending a Benjamin.

New mattress arriving today. Cleaned spare bedrooms and put old sheets over each freshly made bed. Now I don't have to worry about dust. Beds probably won't be used til spring.

We ended up digging up all the potatoes. Crop was not good at all due to the entire summer of rain. But what there is, is clean and on the table drying to put into the fridge.

All in all, the garden was a bust from all the rain we had. Next year I guess.

The new grocery store was sort of a waste. Yes, their meat department was insane as the prices were super low, but the rest of the store was at least $1 more than everything I can get at Walmart. We loaded up on different meats, dropped it off at home, then went to Walmart to do the rest of my shopping in our usual town. Going to two different towns to shop is out of the question for us, unless we decide to make a special trip to this grocery store once every couple of months just for meat. Will load our cooler in the back and get a load each trip.

So, I finished my shopping for the month and managed to have money left from my budget to put into the emergency fund. I'm thankful for that. I hope to make that a habit.

Vinegar will remove almost all odors, but I don't know what it will do to the color of your shirt. I have quite a few accidentally tie dyed items of clothing...
I use vinegar as a rinse aid in place of fabric softener and it hasn't helped. I just took the shirt out and sniffed it and put it right back in the dirty clothes hamper. That "sniff" shot pain into my sinuses so still too perfumy. This wash was #3 and each reduced the smell so hopefully I can get rid of the smell before I wear it out washing it. Future note to self: do not buy tops at that thrift shop. I also have a beautiful comforter set that I got at a garage sale that I cannot use for the same smelly reason. I should donate it because I don't want to haul it to the laundromat and wash it six times.

I was planning to do my monthly shopping tomorrow but have decided to wait until next week since we'll be getting the bi-monthly food boxes this week. The stuff we get is very random, but I don't want to buy and then get the same thing in the box.

I've had good results ordering from HealthWarehouse.com. I get 300 count of generic Claritin for $19.88 with free shipping. If you buy it OTC at Walmart it costs more than that for one 20 count package. Since I take it daily year around this is a huge savings for me. I've ordered supplements and low dose aspirin from them, but don't recall prices.

I was going to pull watermelon vines today, but discovered one more melon that should be ready soon. It's very windy today so I spent time picking up sticks from the front yard. No longer have trees in the backyard to clean up under:bwl::bwl:.
