How are you feeling today? Prayers continue!Prayers for safety for you two.
Tired. Very tired. The body is clearing the last of the mess. No new blood. But my RBC and hemoglobin are still low. And immature new cells are high. How are you feeling today? Prayers continue!
That sounds interesting but at $23 for four cans I can't afford it. I should have tried it when it was cheaper.I've had 2 cans of this food item in my pantry but have never used it before last night. I really didn't know what to use it in. It's the Great Value brand of Fajita Seasoned Beef Strips in a 12oz can. I made stir fried veggies last night for my supper meal and wanted some kind of meat to mix in with the veggies. I used a can of this and WOW. It was very good. I was pleasantly surprised. I waited, until the veggies were almost done, then added the drained meat. The seasoning in the beef added a lot of flavors to the veggies.
Since I only had 2 cans in storage, now, only one, I'm ordering a case or two from Walmart. They have stopped carrying it in the store (at least at my Walmart). It will add meat and lots of flavor to several foods I make.
Has anyone else used it?

I may be out of touch with the price of meat. It sounds good though, sometimes we get tired of venison and wild port. DH butchered a pig yesterday. He fried pork steak last night but it was too tough for me to eat. We only have one of those hand cranked tenderizers.I understand. For $23 I can get 4 meals off of that, though. With the price of beef being so high, it's a reasonable price. You're very blessed. You have your own venison and wild pork to use.
Kale might grow well for you through the winter. Maybe get your hubby to fill a couple of large pots with 1/4 goat manure and 3/4 soil. Make sure there is good drainage. Put them in a sunny spot, and plant around October 1st.I just put in a pick up order for walmart for tomorrow after church. This is my somewhat semi monthly shop. I did add a couple cans of some things, just to replace. And finally a few things that might be needed for seasonal illnesses. I did a small shop last Sunday at a different wm but they didn't have the otc items I wanted. Although sometimes they are hard to find and usually a pick up will snag them. I don't know why but I felt the need to add some tonic water to the pick up. I've never liked it though.
One thing I really liked was frozen kale, but they have discontinued it and I can't seem to find it anywhere else. so I ordered a container of kale powder from the river. And some kale seeds to sprout. I've already got some to plant but since we've had such bad luck with gardening it seems kind of futile. But who knows what the future holds.
We are going to a dinner and shot gun auction at a local church tonight. This year they invited women, they usually don't. I doubt DH would go without me.

We are still getting tomatoes as well. A couple more cucumbers are on the vine. Hubby started some lettuce going for us as we love weekly salads.
He has these going in pots that siton the front porch railing.I have mustard and turnip seeds that need to get in the ground. We been tied up with the tree, and it's just really, really dry right now.

If you can, try to get some rabbits from a meat breed. New Zealands, or California Whites. They have been bred to be meatier (although nothing like the difference between beef c9ws and the old types!) and to be able to handle multiple, large litters (their litter size is larger than average as well), and have good mothering ability.OK, so, kicking my prepping into gear.
I am fixing my chicken pen, creating a rabbit hutch for meat rabbits, creating two small raised beds for a garden, bought some vege seeds, and eventually plan to have a small fish pond and micro green area.
Oh, I need to locate some dwarf fruit trees too.
Britches .... stay safe....the center is very slowly coming due north...at one point it was crawling north about 9 mph....near I-95 .... it about 13mph the last we heard ..maybe flooding in Petersburg and Richmond and Louisa Co..we have been raining since about 8 pm last night ...Lousia started earlier...they say we will have lot more rain to come ....until late Sunday maybe 2 to 3 more inches here...we are ready soaking
They are saying DC...may see storm surge....
We are doing fine...we are up on a ridge in the county..the winds are strong here in the tops of the trees but not down to ground level....
They saying the blue ridge parkway will have 60mph winds
Yup, got a lot of that from my reading already, but there seems to be a butt-load more to learn! If you can, try to get some rabbits from a meat breed. New Zealands, or California Whites. If you prefer the look of colored rabbits, New Zealands come in several colors, although the whites are most popular for commercial breeders, because they can be dyed in any color, for the fur industry.
Avoid the giant breeds! You're feeding a lot of bone and heavy hides... your feed to meat ratio isn't nearly as good. And while i loved my Rex rabbits (they have fur like cut velvet), if you have no plans to tan hides, you're much better off sticking with the meat breeds. My Rex's often had mothering issues, but since I also had New Zealands, I was able to foster abandoned bunnies onto a New Zealand doe, most times.
Oh, and the Rex's don't have as much padding on their feet... if you are using wire bottomed cages, which I highly recommend, they can be subject to hock abscesses. A board in the cage helped, but manure can end up sticking to fur if you have a completely solid bottom.

Great! There's an old book called "Raising Rabbits The Modern Way" by Robert Bennett (IIRC...Yup, got a lot of that from my reading already, but there seems to be a butt-load more to learn!
I already decided on New Zealands, and have a friend who is going to help build the rabbitry.
I'm actually kind of excited!
