Worse for me than fabreeze is purfumed scents with lavendar. Lavender just about knocks me out.

No, I have not considered donating foods that I don't particularly like. If something goes bad the pigs get it. I need to take foods to the church pot lucks anyway. Although they don't think much of my cooking.

Recently I bought some already cooked quinoa and brown rice, comes in two small containers and one minute in the microwave. I had not tried it, so I opened one container and warmed it for one minute. I added a can of a tuna brand that I like, along with a little bit of Skinny Girl salad dressing. It was quite good. It was filling and satisfying. I actually do like quinoa and I've gotten a small supply in boil in bags for easier cooking. It wouldn't take long on a one burner emergency stove to cook it.

I had put some things that I use on Subscribe and Save to be shipped at different times. Grouped together will save on shipping because the total will be over what you need for free shipping.

One thing I use to get on S&S was the Jarrow brand of Curcumin. It has just about doubled in price. I guess other brands will be better than nothing. I also have some powder in bulk but have not used any of that yet.

Look on Swanson for their brand of theracumin. It works really well and is affordable.

I don't like " scents" on laundry either. But I know some do.
I would try putting the shirt in the sun outside. Maybe that would help.

I don't use any added chemicals on our clothing or laundry. All that stuff that's advertised on tv for your laundry is nothing but chemicals. I also hang as much laundry outside on the clothesline as I can to give them that fresh and clean smell. That's all I need. Saves money, too.

It looks to be another beautiful and clear fall like day here, today. High in the mid 80's with a low last night down into the mid 50's. It was cool and crisp this morning. I went for a walk this morning, too.

I've got my laundry done and hung, and I cooked out a family pack of breakfast pork chops this morning. I made them for my lunch for the rest of the week. This egg and meat diet is really working for me. I'm averaging losing 2lbs a day. I had 3 hard boiled eggs and bacon last night for supper. Tonight, will be 2 hamburger patties for myself and Cary will have his regular bacon cheeseburger. Instead of chips or fries, we're eating pork skins. I'll have my 2 patties wrapped in lettuce, with tomato slice, onion slice, and dill pickles, mustard, plus cheese.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the Big Day. We'll see if this man shows up. I probably won't get much sleep tonight just thinking about it, LOL. Cary made photos of the tree. He'll be making photos while they are cutting it, then photos of the yard after they are finished completely. It would be wonderful if he got some firewood out of it. Ya'll probably think I'm being too sentimental, but I really hate to see this old tree brought down. It has stood strong and tall for 125 years. I'm sure it has seen a lot during that time.

Not too sentimental at all! I cried when our huge, 200+ year old sugar maple died. I've still got syrup from in in the basement!

Not really getting much done today. Still working on the clothes pile, I'm separating things out that need to be ironed. Plus I've run across summer tops that I could have been wearing this summer, they were in a drawer that was covered with laundry baskets keeping me from opening them. The laundry baskets are just about emptied and getting under control.

DH fried some packages of pork steaks so I've not cooked today, we both ate our fill of it. Again I didn't exactly get back on my diet.

Doc's office called. Appointment for crack of dawn tomorrow. And they verified that ER probably would not have taken it seriously. They are honestly worried. We'll see what they say tomorrow.

I got another layer on the garden storage. And a big bag of harvest. I got some laundry done.

But then the body just stopped. I got a shower in. I have dinner in the oven. I prepped for leaving very early in the morning. Now I just want to eat and go to bed.

We had the whole day set aside, today, for the tree cutters. Now, I've got to find something to keep me busy all day. I have a small pile of ironing I can do and make up the chicken breasts for tonight's supper. I like making food up early, putting it in the fridge, and cooking it later. I've already watered everything this morning. It's cool and crisp outside again. I'll probably take another long walk this afternoon, too.

Needless to say, we are very disappointed, but all things in God's timing.

I got my Sam's order delivered, today. It was a big order, too. I had let several items that I buy in bulk get down a bit lower than I like to keep it. It took me quite a while to get everything dated, rotated, and put away, but it's done.

Also, our propane guy delivered us a full tank of propane. We don't use very much, but always like to have a tank full on hand for the winter. We have a small propane wall heater on a center wall in our house. It's used when it's still too warm to light the wood heater. Just to knock the chill out of the house, more or less.

So, a rather productive day after all.

@kyrsyan I hope you feel better soon and you can find some relief. Prayers up for you.

@SouthernBreeze Ugh, bless your heart. That’s exactly how things have gone for us the whole summer! I too like having supper decided and prepped early in the day. I put together a chicken pot pie about an hour or so ago and it’s waiting in the fridge.

The past few weeks have been so busy and hectic around here I’ve barely had time to read, let alone post. I had medical appointments 2 days last week, DH and I both had dental visits this week and he has something to go to tomorrow and then I have 2 more appointments next week. Being away from home wears me out!

I‘ve still managed to do a little more decluttering but not as much as I hoped. But DH took another load to Salvation Army yesterday. The potty chair we got for oldest grandson and was then used for the two other grandchildren left my house yesterday and it still looked new, I hope it blesses someone that needs it. I’ll be starting to build my next load soon, probably with DH‘s closet and chests of drawers, as he has time to make the decisions on what he wants to keep.

I managed to get most of the fridge clean last week and have been working through some items needing to be used up sooner rather than later. I still have one more drawer to finish as I ran out of steam and time that day. I had a few things I had to toss but not much, a few pieces of celery, an apple, part of a head of iceberg lettuce and two peppers that got pushed to the very back and overlooked.

However I made some awesome applesauce with the rest of the apples which we enjoyed for Sunday lunch with the family and DH and I finished off last night. Grapes, celery and onions went into chicken salad that was lunch both yesterday and today. Celery and onion was used in my pot pie filling today, then I went through and trimmed up the rest of celery and a nearly full 5 lb bag of carrots got trimmed and peeled (they were a bit hairy looking LOL) but now they’ll be ready to go for several meals soon. The extra shredded parmigiana cheese that was left from DD’s birthday dinner went into the squash patties I made for supper last night and the ones leftover will go in the air fryer to heat and crisp up to have with our pot pie tonight. I know there’s more but I just can’t remember right now. We somehow ended up with an extra bag of spinach so I’ve been adding 2 or 3 handfuls to a few different dishes at the end of cooking and just letting it wilt down, it’s a nice change and a great way to use it up, we’ve really enjoyed it.

I always plan my supper meals a day in advance. That way, I can lay out the meat I'll be using in the fridge to thaw overnight. Its oven baked bacon wrapped chicken breasts tonight, so I made them up this morning, so they will have time to marinate in all the spices while waiting in the fridge, before cooking. I do the same with all the casseroles I make.

I'll have a garden salad with mine, and Cary will get his usual potatoes and beans/peas of some kind, along with his bread roll. He has a coconut pecan cake for his dessert that I made a few days ago. I wish he would hurry up and eat it. It just sits there on the counter staring at me, knowing I can't have any of it, LOL.

I totally understand about the pie!

I like to plan ahead a day or so but it doesn’t always happen or work out, like today the idea had been floating around in my head for a few days that I had refrigerated pie crust that needed to be used. So I decided today was the day and grabbed some home canned chicken that I canned in 2020 that I wanted to use, a few potatoes, etc and that was how supper was planned for today. I love having leftovers and try to add to it or make it into something different. Last night‘s supper was from Sunday lunch since we had a very late lunch on Monday and didn’t want supper that night. We had two grilled pork chops, Mac and cheese (that I reheated with a little cream in the microwave) sautéed green beans, applesauce and since our new yellow squash plants have started putting on and DH adores squash patties that’s how supper worked out last night.

Scot is still on dialysis three times a week and many doc appts. After his treatment today we went to hospital for an echocardiogram and x-ray.
This morning while he was in treatment I did all the shopping.
My one son brought big bags of dog and cat food this morning and left us some cash. Gas is expensive and the docs just keep adding more appts.
Noah and Levi and I stopped at a deserted apple tree and picked big bag of apples. I hope to be able to show them how to make apple cider.
We will make the fair cake tomorrow and frost Friday. Take the boys projects in Saturday.
We are still swimming in tomatoes, peppers and okra I think. Daughter doing much canning.
She and my Sil are looking for a house to buy. Boy it's slim pickings. Either it's a dump or way too high or on a busy road.
Wanting them hold off and keep looking a bit.
In town a week or so ago, salvation army had huge boxes of free corn. I brought a good bit home and took a load to the nurses at the clinic.
Scots echo looks good but heart is still not pumping as well as we'd like to see. Praying it just takes a little more time. We are just over 3 months since surgery.
Have a blessed evening you all. Daughter cooking dinner, not sure what. Were grateful to be back in our bed lol..

Well, the first tree cutter we called are on their way here to get started. He called early this morning. I've been crying like a baby all morning. I've gone out and hugged the old tree and thanked it for its service for all these years. My heart actually hurts over this. I'll more than likely be a mess all day.

I feel for you about the tree cutting, I don't like any trees to be cut. I've had to fight tooth and nail with DH about not cutting "my" trees. Thankfully, he's gotten better about not cutting them down. He does cut trees across the road to mill for lumber, but I don't know any of those trees. Some of them are on my cousin's property and they are okay with that.

DH trapped a sow this morning so he is out butchering it. More meat for the freezer, although we are not particularly low on it.

We are really enjoying those frozen hamburger patties that I bought. I plan to add another large package in my next grocery shop. DH likes having a burger a couple times a week and it makes a quick and easy meal to cook. Unfortunately I'm not like you ladies about planning a meal in advance. I worked too many years outside the home and did not have the luxery of having time in the evenings to plan a meal for the next day. so I've always had to fly by the seat of my pants with cooking. I had a lot of meals that I could prepare fairly easily but my DH generally doesn't like them, making it hard to figure out what to cook. Things he likes take a lot of time and piles up the kitchen. And I don't have the energy at 76 to do that.

They have been working on the tree since around 9 am, and still haven't got all the limbs cut. My whole front and one side yard are covered. I can't even see the road from the house the pile is so huge. They haven't got to the huge limb that hangs over the house, yet. I think they are saving it for last. The crew has gone to lunch right now. The cleanup crew is here just waiting to get started and remove the stump.

Cary has been outside with them, and he said, from the way all of it looks, he may be able to get at least 3 cords of usable firewood out of it. Some of the tree wasn't rotten, but if left standing much longer it all would have been. The men doing the cutting are laying down every limb that can be used for firewood on the ground right next to the woodshed. We both think that's very nice of them. Cary might pay them a bit extra for doing it as a thank you.

eta. The crew was looking at another huge oak tree almost as big as the one they're cutting just off to the side of the woodshed. It's probably dying, too. Cary told them we would have to wait a bit later on that one. We just can't afford 2 trees at the same time. This one is farther away from the house but would still possibly hit it if it fell towards the house, but not as bad as this one would.

The tree is gone, and the yard almost cleaned up. They started grinding the stump and hit a problem. A horseshoe was embedded into the bottom of the stump. The tree had grown around it. It broke their grinder, so I don't know what he will do next. We may have to hire someone else to get the stump removed. I'm not waiting another 6 months on him to decide to come back and do it. They've done a great job, but Cary will only pay for the tree removal.

I'm glad it's over but really sad. They managed to get the grinder fixed. Everything is gone, and they are coming back in the morning to put the finishing touches on the ground where the stump was. They'll be back, because they left all of their equipment here. One of the guys asked if I was going to plant a tree back in its place. I told him I would if it wasn't so close to the house. I do need to do something to mark where the tree stood.

Laughing. Yesterday friend discovered problems with his plumbing while som was there. No time to deal with it then so he just turned off the water to the toilet so son couldn't cause flooding.

Fast forward to today. He's poured drain cleaners down. He's run a snake. I have him check the vent pipe. He states that it's just slow drain. He doesn't think it's affecting the kitchen.

I tell him to deliberately cause the slow drain and then go run the kitchen sink. Oh, when the drain is slow, it does affect kitchen. So clog is outside.

The thing is, he has plain lawn between his house and the city connection. And the city recently did repairs in front of his house. So while he doesn't want the expense, he's going to have to pay a plumber. Because the city won't accept that the did damage unless a pro tells them.

My amusement is that I got the call to help diagnose. Because my brain does logic function.

And got a full day of work in. Not much more than that but still got all my work done and handled two pop-up issues. And apparently me having to go to the ER spooked boss. I do a lot. And I'm her logic person. And while I don't like communicating with customers, I do have a knack for getting the help desk to provide answers, information, and guidance. So far I've only had one issue with them. And I create reports that make our lives faster and saner.

Add on to that, she wasn't sure I'd be back today. And she was heading out for the next four days. Fortunately for both of us, I was able to work, albeit a little slower than normal. She need my help desk magic to resolve an issue for a customer.

And fax. Who in the world uses fax anymore? But boss says that HP offers free fax with any of their printer scanners. Mine is functional despite dead ink cartridges. So I'll dig into that tomorrow. I don't want another random office device.

Anyways, about to call it a night.

SB, glad they got the tree down safely. You might look into a smaller tree there. And a larger one further off.

don't blame yourself or let that grinder guy blame you for the broken grinder bit >>> they are supposed to do an extensive metal check with a metal detector - that's basic basic for those old trees - spikes and other old hardware over the last 150 years is common as spit ....

No, they didn't blame us. It had been there long before we were even born. Like I said, the tree had grown around the horseshoe deep inside the trunk. It didn't break the bit after all. The grinder just locked up when it hit it. They managed to get it fixed and finished grinding up the stump. There is a big ole empty space in our yard now. The crew will be back out later this morning to put the finishing touches on smoothing out where the stump was and get paid.

They left Cary a mountain of logs to cut up and use for firewood. Cary's thinking, now, it will be about 4 cords or more. The pile is huge. They piled it up right at the end of his woodshed where his splitter is located. That was so nice of them. The woodshed is full to overflowing now, so he'll have to cut, split, and stack this and put it under a tarp. We won't have to worry about firewood for a long, long time.

Finally, it's all finished. You can't even tell a giant tree was there. They did a great job cleaning and smoothing out our yard. Cary will maybe have to sow some grass seed in the bare spot next Spring. But, over all the yard looks really nice.

When they were bringing down some of the limbs, they broke limbs out of the other big oak tree on the other end of the house. They even trimmed that tree up for us, bringing down those limbs that had broken. Didn't charge us anything for that. These two trees are what made the canopy over the house, and they were almost completely intertwined.

Now, we have to save to get the huge oak tree cut that is at the end of the woodshed. The owner took a better look at it, and he said that he can see rot down at the base of the tree. He thought if it gets blown down, it won't fall in the direction of our house, though. Cary told him we would have it cut, too, but we needed to save up for it, first. This one cost us $4700.

Sherree, I know you are glad to have the danger to your house gone. If our big tree was gone it would be a huge big empty space. There is no way we could afford to have it taken down and with the vines gone from it, it has revived itself. It will probably still be here when we are long gone.

DH has started to process the pig and is leaving a big mess in the kitchen, ugh. Makes me want to go back to bed.

House church was on things the Bible tells us we must do. The must dos last night were in John. When I got home I looked up must in my Strongs and there is a huge list of "musts" in the Bible, so we didn't even scratch the surface. One of the fellows brought fried apply pies that his mother made, I ate two, shame on me, but they were tasty. His mother is a wonderful old fashioned cook.

Its overcast today, high about 91. Even though 91 is still pretty warm, its so much more pleasant than the 100+ temps we had for so long this summer. On the one hand its hard to believe that the summer is just about gone, not that I'm sorry to see it go.

Yep, but it's also why it's so hard to get anyone to take those old yard trees down! DS had a j9b cutting some
Northern Catalpa trees on his Wood Mizer mill. He destroyed $400 worth of saw blades in one afternoon due to nails, spikes and wire... and that was WITH using a metal detector!

Even though a huge part of the canopy over our house is gone, I feel the house will have a chance now to breathe much better. Hopefully, not as much mold and mildew to contend with. We will feel more of the summer heat, though, I'm sure. I already have blinds and insulated curtains over the windows, so maybe it won't cause the heat in the house to rise much. The metal roof will be fully exposed, though.

I think our temp for tomorrow is supposed to be 91. Still no rain. It sure does feel nice first thing every morning. Still cool and crisp. I did a load of laundry this morning and hung them outside, before the tree crew got here.

I'm beginning to struggle with my diet, too. One can only stand to eat so many eggs and rabbit food every day, and an all meat diet is going to get expensive pretty soon, especially, since I have to also cook another almost whole meal for Cary. I also refuse to empty my pantry of everything that I can't eat on this diet. That would be a huge waste of money and time.

I'm not emptying things out of my pantry that I can eat either. I'm not really struggling with the food plan on the golo diet exactly, but I guess I got tired of all the cooking. Trying to get back on track and now I have to clean up the mess DH is making with the pork processing.

I love to cook and don't mind the cleanup. It's that I have to make a meal for myself and another one for Cary. He doesn't like most of what I'm having to eat, and he certainly doesn't need to lose any weight. He can eat the meat, but he won't eat much else that I'm eating. It's eventually going to cause my grocery bill to go much higher, and I can't afford that.

I have lost 10lbs over 7 days, though.

I enjoy cooking, but sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed fixing 3 meals a day. The crockpot is my go to appliance on days like that. I fix baked potatoes, meat, casseroles, and even dessert in ours. Because we have a big family, I have several.

Only 2 meals a day for the two of us.... brunch and supper. I put all my time and effort into our supper meal. I love using my crockpot, too. Most of what I'm having to eat can't be cooked in it, though. Mostly, eggs of some kind, meat of some kind, and small salads.

ETA. Last night we had left over bacon wrapped chicken breasts and boiled eggs. Cary won't tolerate that for a meal very often. With the tree cutters being here til late, I was just too upset over the tree being gone that I didn't feel like cooking anything extra for him.

I don't think I can convince our kids to only eat twice a day, but my DH and I only eat two meals a day, and sometimes not even that.

I love my crockpot.... we have that tropical storm headed our way..the rain headed our by this evening until Sunday sometime....we are in the cone but way on the west side of it...our house sits high on the ridge that runs through the county....so will be fine....we have flash flood watches and high wind warnings......we have tied up some of the remaining tomato plants in the garden...
I have a pot roast in the crock pot....so we will have leftovers...and plenty of food and water... will top off gas when dh gets here..
We have fuel and a generator if the wind brings down the lines.

Praying for JC a very old friend in Portsmouth, VA...he is in his mid 70s... .looks like it will track just to his west...he will be on the dirty side...calling for 6 feet of storm surge there..... they will flood....he is prepared the best he can be.....

We are hanging in there.

Our house closest to hd5574 is okay (we think!) but getting lots of rain.
We are currently at our (one day in the future full time) home on the Chesapeake Bay. We are on a haven so that is good, but did flood this morning. We used the shop vac for over an hour this morning and will have to repeat the process around 6 tonight at the next high tide.
We were expecting this to happen based on the tidal charts so were ready as best as we could be. The house sits about four feet from the water on a ”normal day” so tidal events have us watching things closely.

We still have power and am thankful for hot coffee. Will post more as I am able.

Stay safe everyone. Please keep prayers coming.
