Sounds like it's worse south. N MN this morning a mere -10 and not bad wind.
Watch those water pipes. Screw the grid - heat the house up a few extra degrees and keep sink cabinet doors open so the periphery stays warm. Gives you a little slop if/when the power goes out too, if the core of the house is toasty. Jam some rugs or towels up against outside doors, hang some quilts from windward windows. Feed your livestock plenty of hay in cold times like this - it will keep them warm, not grain. Bed them well...it's insulation. I was struck again by how warm the barn and coop felt when I did evening chores.
Watch the dogs outside real close. I got a wake-up call yesterday. My "pup" is tending toward some CCL/ACL issues
. She farted around out back so long yesterday afternoon and got so cold that she didn't want to climb the steps on the deck to come back in. Had to go out and hand-wrangle her butt. Until this cold quits, she's going out to pee on a long line with me, closely watched - like it or not. Little room for bird-brain and the usual "freedoms" when the cold will kill. Goes for humans too. Don't take chances.
