Currently -12 degrees with -51 degrees windchill. Went to mailbox a couple hours ago and sincerely wish I hadn't. Drifts over my knees on driveway and around mailbox. Wind about blew me over. Came back with boots full of snow. Exactly the reason I'm in hibernation mode and shouldn't have broken it.

-12 last night on the NE Iowa bluffs but we have some moisture warmth from the river and a heavy snowpack of 18 in now. Its very muffled, cocoon like with the snow. Well over my knees. As long as there is no blowing or drifting, folks should be able to caucus. County doing outstanding job keeping main roads open. Now we wait to see how low it will go overnight into Monday.

Sounds like it's worse south. N MN this morning a mere -10 and not bad wind.

Watch those water pipes. Screw the grid - heat the house up a few extra degrees and keep sink cabinet doors open so the periphery stays warm. Gives you a little slop if/when the power goes out too, if the core of the house is toasty. Jam some rugs or towels up against outside doors, hang some quilts from windward windows. Feed your livestock plenty of hay in cold times like this - it will keep them warm, not grain. Bed them well...it's insulation. I was struck again by how warm the barn and coop felt when I did evening chores.

Watch the dogs outside real close. I got a wake-up call yesterday. My "pup" is tending toward some CCL/ACL issues  . She farted around out back so long yesterday afternoon and got so cold that she didn't want to climb the steps on the deck to come back in. Had to go out and hand-wrangle her butt. Until this cold quits, she's going out to pee on a long line with me, closely watched - like it or not. Little room for bird-brain and the usual "freedoms" when the cold will kill. Goes for humans too. Don't take chances.

Good morning! -9 and -32 windchill. 67 degrees upstairs and in basement. Plumbing, power, internet and heat are operational. Both vehicles remote started. I'm pretty thankful for all that. Gonna head to church service and if I can help it stay home after that for the next couple days. You all stay safe out there.

Morn' all frozen peeps! We are a balmy 17 here in central AR. I know, it's like a summer day compared to most of you guys but to us wimps, it's cold here!! We are waiting on snow later this afternoon into the evening but looks like the weather dudes have over estimated once again, not gonna get as much as predicted two days ago. The kids will be so disappointed.

Stay safe, warm and cozy! This too shall pass!

I’m seeing on our tv crawler a stream of church services canceled

Glad your cars started. I need to go out at some point and start mine.

It's 19 degrees, got as low at 16 AFAIK during this cold spell. I know which tenants did not read my "Cold Weather" email sent on Thursday, because they called yesterday with no water in the house. Dummies. Although one house has a walk out unheated basement with a flimsy door; I think the pipes were going to freeze there no matter what.

-8 with windchill of -27 in our part of KC. 3 deg in our part of Arkansas. We were out and about yesterday but will be hunkering down today. Wish I'd brought my ski suit.

Know a guy who snagged a $20 ticket to last night's Chiefs game but spent $300 on gear to stay warm. Potential Darwin candidate.

Stay safe.

That’s unreal for a Chiefs game! It had to have been miserable out there.
